SCR - Special 5on5 Norcal vs. Socal Battle

0.o

Great Games for all matches. I saw some of the most random stuff @ SCR, and I was only at the TvC/Marvel 3 section the entire time!

It was good to see all the NorCal folk come down for this event, I was glad to meet with you guys again. Hope you’ve enjoyed your stay!

Hope no one minded me being on the stream. I blame it on my first time doing a major tourney stream commentary, so I didn’t know how loud I needed to speak -_-;.

In reference to the tourney, from talking with the SoCal peeps I got the impression they didn’t train or prepare enough to deal with Yoshi. Both times (in the 5v5 + main) they didn’t devise enough battle plans to deal with his PTX.

If I had to boil down to one thing, I would say that BBQ wasn’t used/abused enough against Yoshi.

In the 5v5, I generally saw a lack of defense vs. Yoshi. The best I can remember is a lot of unsafe moves and and extended comobos that should’ve ended early, and those were all punished. BDChris gave me the most hope with his BBQ combo, but he let it extend too long and the Super Armor allowed Yoshi to finish him off.

In the finals, RFlush didn’t use BBQ enough for defensive and offensive measures. He also didn’t work on building meter efficiently to throw out lvl 1s with his Blade, or threw the wrong version of the projectile to force Yoshi back. Yoshi made it even harder, constantly pushing Flush to the corner and severely limiting critical options for him. Yoshi also capitalized on Flush throwing a projectile from an unsafe range and punished with a killing combo.

It was pretty cool to see Tekka’s lvl3 pulled off though. I’ve never seen that thing connect in a tourney match. Given that Flush generally doesn’t specialize with the Tekkamen, that makes it all the more surprising.

That being said, Yoshi used his ability to fight with PTX and proved a Giant can stand on top in a major. Congrats on winning Yoshi!

However, I can say that not enough has been tested against Yoshi to completely say PTX is overpowered, but right now it feels fairly convincing. I have a few ideas myself, but I didn’t take the time to challenge Yoshi to see if they could work.

So to make this simple…I’m putting a bounty on GCYoshi! 10 bucks to the first person to take down Yoshi in FT7! I’ll need video evidence, and I’ll probably pay at EVO next summer!

ggs everyone. Oh and dont ever MM kbeast in Random selection MMs… or flush too… TVC likes them both too much

It was cool watching some TVC matches here and there, I didnt Compete Out of lateness but hopefully Ill compete in the next one.

BTW about the whole Giant discussion… Its like your asking to Ban Sentinel from MVC2? Why do you want ptx Banned? Because hes ( its ) good and has options? Shit like this will kill the already small tvc community.

Why is everyone comparing PTX and Sentinel!!! You can COMBO Sentinel much easier than it is to combo PTX. Also you do not have to keep running away from Sentinel like you do against PTX. Seriously TvC is a dead game but for future tournaments in SoCal giants will be banned. Yoshi can learn some REAL characters now to prove he can actually play a fighting game. I am saying this low blow because PTX is pure bullshit and unfair. Sentinel is not unfair in MVC 2!!

@Saequo you act like you know a lot, maybe it is time you actually come to tournaments so we can see if you are what you say you are. You claim to know every way out of everything we talk about or claim it is easy to get around. Please come to a tourney and play Yoshi.

i take no offense dont worry about that man, i know i dont have the experience some of you have, but as you have seen in my combo videos, i do have knowlegde about the game more than you think i have, and man i would love to play yoshi, even so, lets put it this way, PTX is not even nearly broken, as i have said before, PTX metagame its easly shutdown, you have blade which is the best if not one of the best gigant killers, still yoshi know his matchups so he play patienly to get to your face, if you notice, he always wait for cheap damage move, then move with tackle he knows he have defense there so he baroque at the right moment to be safe, thats the whole situation you have to avoid to see that ptx is not broken, is just that yoshi is very patient and wait for the rigth moment to actually go for rushdown, cause a careless PTX is a dead PTX, as for the combos i know ptx can go for 30 or 40 billion in one combo that is if he does the triple relaunch tackle then medium back launcher baroque an you know the rest, but seriously is not broken, i know people struggle with the mixups, i give you a little help there, block low the mayority of the time, only real fast low hit is ptx medium back laucher, the rest of the moves are overheads which are actually slow enough for you to react the rest is just taking care of the missile setups, this is were invincibility frames moves come in handy, but as you said i do need to play a good PTX, and i will, just until evo next year went i get to visit you guys XD

I agree that the MvC2 comparisons have to stop (TvC feels more like MvC1 anyway) but I think my brain just exploded.

Also you’re free to ban the Giants… but I am pretty sure that FFA in Socal is run by the Flush. I don’t think he particularly minds Giants.

This is why I prefer to keep out of giant discussion. Too many disagreements among individuals doesn’t seem to solve anything, but at least people still care enough to talk about this game.

I will admit that I was very salty having lost to PTX using one of the best counter-pick teams in the game, but it just shows how well prepared GcYoshi13 prepared for the matchup. Me? I just wanted to get some sleep and at least get top 2 so I can walk away with some prizes. But I neglected to use much of what Rotanibor offered as advice. If maybe I spent even a few hours to consider the matchup, things may have ended a bit differently.

As much as I will blame PTX’s game-changing ability, I wouldn’t feel so satisfied just banning giants because I got beat by the best one around. It’s like banning the Lakers from competing for a season just because they might get a three-pete (sorry, I don’t use sports analogies like this very often). Anything or anyone with the will to compete should be allowed to regardless of the obstacles and the critics.

It will always be very debatable as to whether or not giants should be allowed in tournaments for TvC. In the first TvC:UAS tournament I ran, I softbanned giants and then people made a big deal about it and I don’t feel that anything about it has changed. It just wouldn’t seem too fulfilling to exclude PTX just because I wasn’t prepared that day. My argument was that fighting them is just another matchup. The only bad part about this is when you don’t have the option to counterpick against the giant, but in the main tournament, players do not have to commit to their regular team in favor of a counterpick team.

imo giants are fun to fight against but if you guys want to ban them i wouldn’t mind

you act like yoshi didnt have to try to win, i saw all the matches and it was still tough no 1 respects it tho

i bet the community will grow more if the giants get banned, i dont want this game to die when mvc3 comes out that really shouldnt happen

the best ryus i saw at scr were truegamer and razorbyrn, i wish i had played more ppl but i was busy playing other games and stuff
that shit was dope tho you guys were pretty damn good

LOL people said at first that giants would NEVER win a major tourney and now that it finally happened people are saying they are overpowered? This is completely ridiculous! Learn the matchup people. It’s not that hard.

Flush totally switched his gears at SCR. But it doesn’t matter. This game was put in its grave competitively after evo.

But real talk, fuck the giants. The SCR stream is a great indication of how our game is viewed by others. It would have been nice to see tvc actually do well competitively for 2 years, but I guess no dice. When all of the top players feel that the giants are bad for business, they probably are (afterall, we’re the ones that are affected by it most. No new players and poor stream attendance means no more big pots).

It’s funny. We’ve been having this argument for the past 8 months and all its done is split the community apart. At least we can finally stop having it now. Good game guys…good game.

-end rant-

SCR was awesome. Good games to everyone. I wish there could’ve been a Midwest team, but only 2 of us showed. No big. See ya’ll in MvC3!

magno ur right but no one wants to deal with that shit its like fighting a boss fight in a side scrolling game

and kurasa the game doesnt have to die there are still a lot of ppl interested in the game but i understand what you mean

oh well just ban the giants already to try and give the game another chance fuck the dumb shit

@Moe - its just a tricky spot. If we ban the giants, then some of the community members will be all pissed for whatever their personal reasons are (and they have every right to be), but if we don’t then there is practically zero chance of the game actually going anywhere due to the perception that the giants have. I’ve said it many times before, on a personal level, I really don’t care if they are in or out, but from a fiscal level, they are just bad for business and our game won’t be going anywhere because they are just that unpopular.

But you are right, the game doesn’t have to die here. We can keep it alive all by ourselves. It just won’t be easy. Hell, I travelled more than anyone pimping TvC and now I’m burnt out due to the rap that the game has garnered. We aren’t getting any new players and many of the existing players are quitting. My scene went from 8-ish at evo time to 2 today. The only person that is interested in learning the game is Gllty the Lady Killa Lady…and believe me…its for the wrong reasons.

We were talking about this on the irc a little bit today, but here’s my opinion.

The conversation here isn’t really about whether or not PTX is OP or reasonable, the reason why people get upset is because the community isn’t large enough to support a matchup this strange. Basically the only PTX player capable of winning a major right now is yoshi, so essentially, anyone without the opportunity to play against yoshi regularly is going to be at a disadvantage because they won’t be aware of how to play that matchup to get the best possible chance.

Basically, the PTX matchup is different enough that you do need specific experience and practice in fighting that one character at a high level in order to be competitive against them, and unfortunately, the community isn’t large enough to provide the majority of the players with that kind of experience.

Just my opinion.

Also Kurasa, your av is hilarious.

Lol. Thanks Roll.

I see what you’re saying, but really, it goes beyond that. But this isn’t the place for this discussion. This thread is supposed to be about BEST-Cal beating the ever loving shit out of WORST-Cal lololololololololololololol.

Yoshi vs the world!!! I got 5 on Yoshi.

That’s another problem with certain posters who like to believe in the wrong things regarding matchups and characters. If they win, they’ve overpowered. If they lose, they took out someone more worthwhile as a player along the way. Once you realize that their head is in the sand there’s really no point arguing with them.

RoyalFlush has the right attitude and is not giving in to his salt. Learning how to counter a bad matchup against your team is necessary if your team has a weak spot. I don’t think any of this would matter because people have been adapting against what seem to be overpowering fighting game chars for decades now, but it looks like people still like to swing that banhammer.

More people need to read “Play to Win.”

lmao ur right it is a critical situation regarding the giants

but idk whatever happens happens and if it dies im sure the tvc community will still have good side tournies at majors, even when marvel 3 is out

you guys should make an official thread where ppl vote for or against the giants then do the right thing when its all said and done

real talk

I can only imagine what it would be like to try to do a cross-USA TvC Wi-Fi fight against the best PTX player in the world.

But you are absolutely correct though. Matchups and sustainability across a small scene don’t work unless that scene is very condensed (Japan).

congrats on nor cal winning tho shit was tight

Godammit people lmao, why does every thread have to turn into a giant arugemnt? Whether you’re with them, or against them, it’s the year of the giants! Go San Francisco!

Well u might as well mail me a check or paypal or something cuz i got plenty of videos of me beating Yoshi 7 times in a row. But I also have plenty matches of him wrecking shop on my counter pick teams lol.
