Great Games for all matches. I saw some of the most random stuff @ SCR, and I was only at the TvC/Marvel 3 section the entire time!
It was good to see all the NorCal folk come down for this event, I was glad to meet with you guys again. Hope you’ve enjoyed your stay!
Hope no one minded me being on the stream. I blame it on my first time doing a major tourney stream commentary, so I didn’t know how loud I needed to speak -_-;.
In reference to the tourney, from talking with the SoCal peeps I got the impression they didn’t train or prepare enough to deal with Yoshi. Both times (in the 5v5 + main) they didn’t devise enough battle plans to deal with his PTX.
If I had to boil down to one thing, I would say that BBQ wasn’t used/abused enough against Yoshi.
In the 5v5, I generally saw a lack of defense vs. Yoshi. The best I can remember is a lot of unsafe moves and and extended comobos that should’ve ended early, and those were all punished. BDChris gave me the most hope with his BBQ combo, but he let it extend too long and the Super Armor allowed Yoshi to finish him off.
In the finals, RFlush didn’t use BBQ enough for defensive and offensive measures. He also didn’t work on building meter efficiently to throw out lvl 1s with his Blade, or threw the wrong version of the projectile to force Yoshi back. Yoshi made it even harder, constantly pushing Flush to the corner and severely limiting critical options for him. Yoshi also capitalized on Flush throwing a projectile from an unsafe range and punished with a killing combo.
It was pretty cool to see Tekka’s lvl3 pulled off though. I’ve never seen that thing connect in a tourney match. Given that Flush generally doesn’t specialize with the Tekkamen, that makes it all the more surprising.
That being said, Yoshi used his ability to fight with PTX and proved a Giant can stand on top in a major. Congrats on winning Yoshi!
However, I can say that not enough has been tested against Yoshi to completely say PTX is overpowered, but right now it feels fairly convincing. I have a few ideas myself, but I didn’t take the time to challenge Yoshi to see if they could work.
So to make this simple…I’m putting a bounty on GCYoshi! 10 bucks to the first person to take down Yoshi in FT7! I’ll need video evidence, and I’ll probably pay at EVO next summer!
