Scott Pilgrim

My friend just let me borrow the first three volumes.

Is this any good?

Im wondering about this book too. It’s gotten good reviews and is being made into a film by the guy that did spaced, shaun of the dead, and hot fuzz. let us know how it is septimus.

from all my friends they tell me its really good. i’ve always liked the creator…i followed his stuff when he just did stupid online comics and stuff years back before he got into comics full blown. im always happy to see guys who i really appreciated purely for art value make it like this.

anyone know what happened to the movie being optioned.

Scott Pilgrim is a PIMP!

Been reading the series at the library and it’s a hoot! Art work is manga inspired, but if that sort of thing turns you off, the plot has just so much wit you won’t even care. Most of the humor revolves around video game references (Scott’s band is called Sex Bob-omb for one thing) and just adds to the fun. Favorite moments, that I can remember, are Scott losing the mithril skateboard and learning about Ramona’s sexy phase.

Filming begins in the fall, apparently. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

Michael Cera to play Scott Pilgrim, and that insanely hot chick in Death Proof and Die Hard 4 is Ramona Flowers…don’t remember her actual name.

Scott Pilgrim is fantastic, and various members of this forum which I shall not name have been pushing this for years. Really entertaining, fun read. A large number of nerdy video game references sprinkled in there as well, which our demographic should particularly enjoy.

Girls love it too, so anyone with copies, spread that love around.

The only problem I have with this book is that it takes too long to come out. First volume came out in 2004 and now in 2008 we have four total. One a year!

Scott Pilgrim vs. The Universe (Volume 5) comes out in February. …get hype…?

It’s weird too, because you don’t even really particularly end up sympathizing or relating to the main character, bu the whole cast is so fun that it doesn’t even matter anyway. That’s what I found at least. Lazy, slacker Asianphile asshole that reminds me of VSlash…I want to fucking punch Scott Pilgrim right in the face.

Great book though, gobble it up as soon as you can.

I love Scott Pilgrim and have read each volume like 5 times at least.

Don’t get mad because you are Jason Kim and I can’t remember your gay name.

You are trying to get in the pants of my high school ex. Have fun with my sloppy seconds.

The books are all great, and the art gets much better with each volume. The jump in artistic quality from number 1 to number 4 is a very large.

Not that this has anything to do with the quality of the books, but Bryan Lee O’Malley seems like an oversensitive wussbag sometimes though. He needs to get into sports or something, stop being such a damn nancy.

“Bread makes you FAT?!?”

But yeah, 1 a year is way better then some of these ADD indy comics guys.

I just had a customer named Scott Pilgrim while looking at this… creepy!

Just read the preview for the first volume. Very good. I have to start buying this.

Get MAD hype!

If his life had a face, I’m sure you’d want to punch that too.

Scott Pilgrim is fucking AWESOME.

The movie… maybe not so much. Michael Cera doesn’t strike me as a Scott Pilgrim type dude.

But the books are very clearly inspired by Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, rock music, relationships, ninjas and all sorts of awesome things. Go read em, ASAP.

EDIT: if you couldn’t already tell how much i like the series by my avatar…

Book 1 was nice, but WTF with the ending.
Gonna try to read Book 2 now…

Cera strikes me more as a Young Neil more than anything else.

Scott Pilgrim is fucking great, but the only problem I have with it is what I have with everything in general. If I don’t have a fucking constant flow of new stuff from it, I ultimately lose interest in it. It’s like maintaining that first high and if I don’t keep getting it, it’s gone baby. It’s was hard enough but it took a LONG time for me to like Ventures Bros. again after such a long hiatus. It wasn’t until the season 2 finale that I liked those eps and the Season 3’s most recent eps that I began to appreciate it again.

So with Scott Pilgrim, the yearly release format of it is really killing me. Each new Vol. makes me indifferent to it more and more. I just feel it’s resting too much on the same tone and atmosphere without advancing or innovating as much as it should with any comic that should in a year long hiatus. However it’s still great with some of it’s references which make it AWESOME. I’d say that Vol. 3 is definatly the most awesome one with an actual Honest Ed’s in Toronto that exists.

Hopefully Vol. 5 should rock the fuck out since a LOT changed. But I’m proud of this shit because it’s Canadian and such an awesome geek homage.

If pilgrim fans get happy over this, I don’t know what does.

Scott Pilgrim is great, I have vol. 1-4 and the amount of references they have on video games, movies, and even the city of Toronto is great.

Poor Knives though, all she wanted was Scott’s love…

Baseball Bat = +1 against blonds, especially Half Ninja ones…

I’d punch the nuts

Just finished reading all 4 books and here’s my impressions of the series thus far-

It

[details=Spoiler]is a good fun series but I really don’t like some of the randomness the author throws in, its like he adds them for the sake of it
Still I did like some of the other stuff like how Scott gained EXP, Leveled up and seems to own an N64, SEGA Genesis, NES or SNES and prob. a PSX/PS2 (How the fuck did he get those when he doesn’t even have any cash?)
BTW it took me a while to figure out the series takes place in Canada XD
Oh and Envy reminds me of someone from an anime/manga series but I can’t figure out WHO. Still Envy in the clothes she wore at the end of Vol. 3 was HAWT I’d :hitit:[/details]

So are there any animated series to this?

Just curious

Spoiler

Did any of the Legend of Zelda games even HAVE cheat codes?

So I’m about halfway through the first book, and I’m not really feeling it.

I hope it gets better, as I’d really rather just read a novel right now.

Oh, wait till the end of the book

Yeah, so I’m about half through the second book now. It’s definitely gotten a lot better, but I still don’t really like the pacing, and I hate the fights.

Scott Pilgrim is freaking awesome. My brother is actually doing the back cover art for the next volume.
