I went and saw both Scott Pilgrim and the Expendables yesterday. As someone who had never read the books, I have to say that Scott Pilgrim was far and away the better movie. I was really impressed with just about every aspect of it.
I havent seen it yet, but in the official trailer they had the announcer from Alpha 3 saying “kaaaaayyyyyy ooooohhhh”, so I was instantly sold. gonna play the game at a friend’s house tonight.
matthew patel’s boss theme = the hot business
does rsigley have nothing better to do than troll the non-existent hipsters in this thread
No. But I understand. He’s probably been waiting to vent for awhile now. I get irritated by hipsters too.
I think the soundtarck for the game comes out on the 24th so be on the lookout for it around then.
edit just found this rip. I only played the demo so I dont know if all the tracks are there but hopefully this will do for now.
Anyone else think the critter that fought the two dragons was completely Sasquatch from Vampire Savior? I’m not sure if I’m projecting, or if it was an awesome fighting game + Canada reference.
lol Sigley. lol no black people in the movie too.
One problem big potential problem in the movie for non book readers is that it will seem like the entire movie took place in like 2 days. Which it kinda did.
I saw the movie, and I’m still kind of on the fence as to whether I liked it or not. On one hand, if felt really kinetic, the action was pretty decent, and the humor was spot on for the 1st 2/3 of the movie. But starting around the point of Scott’s showdown with Gideon, things seemed to fall somewhat flat. . .maybe it was the fact that Scott’s eventual moment of growing up fell flat because we’re simply told he’s leveled up without any scenes to actually back that up. Everything just felt kind of forced at that point.
And it seemed like the movie felt rushed. It probably was, considering that there were 6 volumes of a comic stuffed into a single movie, but the whole film felt like it was an excuse to display a fight with another evil ex as opposed to focusing on actual character development. It probably didn’t help that Michael Cera felt pretty wooden throughout the whole thing. Or maybe it’s just my bias against him colouring my judgment.
All the negative complaints aside, I think it’s safe to say it was an enjoyable experience. Hearing the Zelda Link to the Past OST was great, Wallace Wells was absolutely hilarious, and some of the evil exes were awesome as well (mostly Patel/Lucas Lee/Todd Ingram).
loved just about the whole movie except for cera…well unless it was him (or his stunt double?) fighting. otherwise, I felt everyone fit their roles pretty damn well…except for cera : /
still a buy as soon as it comes out, regardless. trying to avoid the no-online game but it’s hard.
oh and a lot of eye candy and cute/sexyness!..well, if you are like wallace heh
well i dunno if this explains the final act, but bryan wasnt done with volume six when the film was being made. the final act is almost like a cliff notes version of the final book…there were hints in the movie that had stuff from volume 6. but like alot of the earlier stuff was more reference heavy to the books. seemed more like bryan had his outline for the final act but it wasnt actually done so he gave the director his ideas of what he was doing.
its weird that it does feel rushed because there are at least 2 volumes of the book that could have been movies on there own. infinite sadness act doesnt even begin to show off scotts sad period.
and michael cera doing sad is horrible. he came off as if it was a joke than it was a serious moment.
he started this alot earlier than 2004 i remember seeing random comics around 2001/02. i never even heard the word hipster til 06. not saying they didnt exist they just werent the mainstream subculture we see today. back then they were just assholes.
“ugh i was into that band when they were underground…i dont like them cause they were mainstream”
I don’t know if Cera did the fighting, but Edgar Wright said that the actors/actresses were required to do at least 2 months of intense training with Jackie Chan’s stunt coordinators.
micahel def did the close up shot of combat, most of the hand to hand stuff, wrist grabs and blocks n shit. but it was pretty obvious when it went to his stunt man. all the far shots were his stunt double, cause he was kicking in a tricker/tkd style.
I’m pretty sure he didn’t do all of it. either way, he wasn’t a very good Scott imo
he had some good hints of scott, but the script didnt play up the fact scotts really an asshole. i think its part michael to blame and part script.

I was surprised that Knives played as big a role as she did. Also surprised that Scott moved out across the street and under an older, gay man’s roof (and even into his bed!).
at first i thought you actually read the books…then i realized you didnt.
i actually wish they did the knives vs ramona mall fight.
I enjoyed the movie. Reading the books before hand give you a little extra to see and appreciate. Cera wasn’t the best Scott but he made him believable enough for me though. I really think an animated feature would’ve done better to bring the story to life though. They definitely need to do something more with Scott Pilgrim vs The Animation. Hella potential in that. I suggest book or not to go see it. It’s that good of a movie in my opinion.
Regarding one of Michael Cera’s fights…
Did anyone notice any weird CG when he fought Lucas Lee’s stunt doubles? Like his face was planted on his stunt double?
Fun film, enjoyed it much more then I thought I would. Filled me with immense nostalgia, and an urge to play Alpha again.
