whats the boxset entail?
PSN peeps, can you upload your saves for ramona/kim/stills?
well that and Cera did a decent job but he still didn’t capture how SP is like in the comics
Just tried watching the movie. I stopped halfway. God it sucks. Jokes feel so forced, they would look better in a comic but not in real life…
The movie is coming out on video next week. It has 4 different commentary tracks and a crap ton of special features. Is anyone else getting it?
I am for sure since i missed out on the theatrical showing.
pwned. thought it was the movie.
because he’s a shitty actor?
The game is crack though. Any news about when the Knives dlc comes out? Cause I need a reason to play it again. I’ve maxed out every character (including Nega-Scott) and got every trophy for it.
Also, I’ve never read the books, and don’t plan to. Same with the movie. I just like the game.
- Caught a director screening last night, with the comic creator, movie director, and that chic who plays Knives. I enjoyed it. Especially with the game references and… the Sword of Self Respect! Will it convince me to step out of manga retirement? To be determined
That’s the thing I actually hate about Scott Pilgrim. All the hipster, vegetarian and dozens and dozens of “retro” gaming references. Its just flat out annoying. None of the references mean shit or progress the story. They’re just there for people who never take off their nostalgia goggles.
Nostalgia goggles? Wait, didn’t you just say that the game is crack and you have maxed out achievements etc. for a game that is essentially RCR 2?
Nice! I wanted to go, but figured I wouldn’t be able to get there in time to get in. What time did you line up at?
I am a pretty big geek. I love video games. I love comics.
Yet I never heard about this movie before it came out, The PR for this movie was terrible.
I just saw it though and enjoyed the shit out of this movie. Most fun I’ve had this year. I litterally started fist pumping during the Katayanagi twin fight when they casted their summon and the “VS” screen came on. I was like “holy shit! FUCK THESE BOYS UP!”
I’m sorry, but there is actually a point. The game references are there to illustrate Scott’s own view of the world. He’s a gamer, nerd, whatever you want to call him, and he sees the world in a way that makes sense to him. He’s the star of his own videogame, essentially. Unfortunately, this has given him “undeserved” self-confidence. Which is why he’s such as asshole to a number of people.
Basically, the point of the game imagery is not only to give off a visual representation of Scott’s ego, and his view of the world, but also to show off some cool fight sequences. To make things more interesting. It’s quite brilliant, imo. It’s the best videogame movie we’ll ever get, as far as i’m concerned.
Any movie that references Earthbound automatically wins.
Also, so many of the gaming nods are probably lost on anyone who isn’t a complete nerd.
I’m completely late to the party, but I’ll post anyway…
I caught the movie on opening night and had a blast! I was even fortunate to watch it with a great crowd, we all enjoyed the movie and had a good laugh when a cute redhead dropped an “OVER 9000” joke in the theater (which I followed up with “WHAT 9000?!!” and got even more laughs)! Even before the movie started, the funniest thing happened during the preview for Devil, where we all let out a loud, collective “AWWWWW!!!” at the sight of M. Night’s name. Once the NES-style Universal Studios jingle started playing, I knew I was watching the right movie. In short, I was in my element.
Rewinding a bit, I decided to check out the graphic novels a few months before the movie was released, though volume six wasn’t available at the time. Compared to the graphic novels, the movie was very faithful, despite some parts were changed, left out, or switched around. I really wish that the movie was a few minutes longer to squeeze in a few more things, but it all worked out in the end. All the actors and actresses did a great job capturing the characters but Kieran Culkin stole the movie as Wallace, no questions.
Anyway, I preordered the movie a month ago and I’m counting the seconds to the ninth. Unfortunately, since I don’t have a PS3 or a Blu-ray player, I’ll just have to settle for the DVD.
This. Especially the hipster shit.
I say the movie was more or less faithful to the comics up to where he beats Todd. The fights against Roxie, the twins, and Gideon were pretty different. But then again some of the parts would have looked very corny had they been included.
comics
[details=Spoiler]Especially if they did the Ninja Gaiden reference in the Roxie parts, the fighting robots during the twin parts, and the Chrono Trigger X-Strike in the Gideon part.

How was it Hipster?
This movie is insta-cop for me on tuesday. one of my favourite movies of the year no doubt.
