We just flew in a black doctor from Africa who is already damn near dead from Ebola for treatment. If he doesn’t survive (looking like he has a 25-30% chance), expect a bunch of ignorance and overt racism from the black community: “Why da blike folks dyin’ but they can save the crykas?!” “Dey let that man die cuz he blike!!” etc, and so on. To reiterate, this guy was already critical BEFORE the decision to bring him to America was made. He couldn’t even board the plane under his own power. Everyone else was sent here hours after testing positive. So, yeah, potential race-based ignorance shitstorm here.

Because he was a U.S. citizen and some people would have doubtless complained that he was getting neglected–for race-based reasons–if the U.S. didn’t try to help him? Also because he was a health worker that would have been helpful to have still around to try to stop this shit? Just saying.

In other news, the guy who created the shitstorm in NYC got released after being cured of the disease about a week ago, which means that one of my associates is out of Ebola-related danger, so that’s good news on a couple of fronts. I still don’t think the doctor should have gone on the damn subway if he could have easily avoided doing so even if he wasn’t contagious yet since it seems like it would be pretty clear how people would (over)react if (read: when) he became sick, but meh. The damage there is done already unfortunately, especially since at least a couple of health workers have mentioned publicly how the new draconian forced quarantine has discouraged them from going to help.
At least a judge in Maine was sensible enough to essentially say “fuck you, there’s no legal basis for this” to the people who wanted to keep that nurse got caught as the first person in this bullshit locked inside her house under armed guard for three weeks. This even though she who was going to quarantine herself anyway, as she has been doing. She’s smart enough to not go in populated areas at least unlike “I must go bowling!” guy above.
