At least the Governors of NY/NJ are stepping up and taking action. You can’t trust people to be on an honors system, sadly, as this case shows. Quarantines should be mandatory and enforced until those who have had exposure to the virus are fully and truly cleared.

Not really. Outside of being right about the obvious, i.e. that you can’t trust people, the Governors of New York & New Jersey are just reacting to the fear that this idiot doctor unnecessarily helped heighten without giving thought to any of the logistics about a mandatory quarantine:

Is said quarantine only applicable to people who’s last stop is a New York or New Jersey airport? Or is it applicable to every single person who has a stopover at such an airport, even though New York’s airports obviously get tons of traffic?

If they can’t trust people to be on an honors system about self-quarantine, then how exactly are they going to be able to trust people to be on an honors system about an obviously more draconian quarantine system where the first person to go through it got publicly treated like excrement? Especially when they obviously haven’t figured out the logistics of the above?
They if had really put thought in these measures, then they would have already been in place soon after the idiocy in Texas went down, rather than only after something potentially happened in New York. I mean, it’s not like New York City isn’t one of the most heavily populated places in the U.S. with a bunch of international flights coming in. Surely, no one who had ever been to West Africa could ever end up there.
Both the governors and this doctor fucked up. Two wrongs don’t make a right. At present, all this does is encourage people to (still) lie so that they don’t get treated like shit for 21+ days and create a disincentive for anyone who wants to help in West Africa to do so, at least if they live or have to go through New York and New Jersey. My, what helpful protocols.
