lol, why would anyone at the school think that is a good idea. i mean, add in some other shit, creole, western african dishes, etc… i mean, the fact of the matter is everyone eats fried chicken, watermelon, and cornbread, but you would have to be completely retarded to not understand the delicate nature of putting that on your fucking menu for black history month. lol

again, like i said earlier, there are plenty of other dishes to put on your menu outside of fried chicken, corn bread, and watermelon. thats like putting spaghettios, spaghetti and meatballs, and digiorno on the menu for Italian month. yes, spaghetti and meatballs is not a traditional italian dish, and digiorno is the last name of a canadian based company from the early 90s, but was kinda marketed as italian in its commercials. the school could have had fried chicken, as there are many west african dishes involving fried chicken. they could have also chose a recipe for collards greens, and then maybe for something a little different like a creole dish, or something carribean.

there is a delicacy to handling race issues in this country, lets not pretend there isnt, but you can have “soul food” dishes that are much more interesting and intricate then that basic ass choice of foods. sorry america, since we’re still at a point where people will make watermelon jokes when referring to obama, then you still have to be conscious of decisions like this, to bring in “african american” dishes to lunch for black history month. the laziness of it. i mean cornbread!!?? motherfucker, native americans been eating that shit before foreign settlers even came to this land. that shit isnt a black dish, other then thats all slaves might have been allowed to eat at times. CORNBREAD!!??

if that menu was shrimp creole, fried chicken (made good), and a great recipe of some collard greens, id be like thats a nice meal, they mad. a couple traditional dishes from africa, and creole, a nice blend of american and african cultures from the south.

The last time I tried, the chicken was fresher than the ones served in their American counterpart, that “synthetic” je-ne-sais-quoi those chickens carry. Overall, the marinated taste was really good albeit it was only skin deep. Perhaps, they did not marinated it properly or it’s as deep as the flavor can penetrate? I’d say, it’s really good chicken. If you really like chicken, definitely give a try. If you’re like me, try it once just for kicks. I don’t like chicken but I would get it again just so I can hit on the agashi’s that work at the cash registers…

You know not ALL chickens in the US are raised by the same ppl; there’s not a central US chicken factory lol.

There are places all over the country that raise chickens with proper feed and without synthetic hormones, and restaurants all over that only serve chicken that’s been raised that way.

White people LOVE fried chicken. White people love to eat all the same things as black people, the reason its offensive is that it implies that black folks are these bestial animals, I dont feel like digging up old papers, but the visual painted back in the day was a dumbfounded nigga with a chicken leg in his hand eating like a barbarian. That notion of animalistic behavior implied that blacks werent civilized. Same thing with watermelon.

Its not the food thats racist, its implying that black people love it that much more than white people, and that a celebration of black culture is reduced to fried chicken and watermelon, two foods that a lot of African Americans in the US statistically dont refer to as one of their favorite foods. For christmas and easter and lots of other holidays I’ve found that out of the dozens and dozens of dinner parties that I’ve been to, black people also enjoy roasted chicken, baked hams, ribs, turkey…etc etc. Fried chicken is difficult and uncouth to serve in a formal dinner setting, so yeah it kinda is racist to imply that blacks are always eating fried chicken. Thats like saying white people love pizza at wedding receptions. Black folks like nice things as well, this whole fried chicken thing is like a monkey we cant get off our back, white people love to bring it up and then we are back at square one.

Its a pretty complex issue.

And another thing, the media in the US has this affinity with sound bytes of blacks in low-income, crime infested neighborhoods. It just perpetuates the stereotype.

You have to understand that if and only if minimal needs are met like food, clothing and shelter, then can a person even begin to want to experience the other pleasures that life has to offer. And yet the media has this fixation of broadcasting the obvious close-minded perception of a select few inner city blacks which just goes on to reaffirm negative perceptions of blacks as a whole.
