How can you have skinless fried chicken?
Ask @rockbogart.
By the way I had no idea your mom was on the PTA committee at Concord high school, tell her to keep up the good work
Wrong thread…
Blat blat
I think you posted that in the wrong thread.
So…what kind of food do Black people in US eat for their culture?
And why do black people applaud when black comedians talk about loving fried chicken? If they get offended that a stereotype is being perpetuated, they should be offended no matter who perpetuates it.
Because they hate white people and it’s a “racist” double standard.
It’s 2014. Everything is outrageous/offensive.
I’m sure if White History Month was formally celebrated, the school would be fair and serve mayonnaise sandwiches and apple juice.
Mayonnaise sandwiches and apple juice for 11 months straight doesn’t seem like a good idea.
I love mayo
I used to celebrate Black History month by speaking ebonics.
I stopped doing so when someone tried to involve me in a drug run.
Now I’m SRK. Everyday is Black History month.
lol, why would anyone at the school think that is a good idea. i mean, add in some other shit, creole, western african dishes, etc… i mean, the fact of the matter is everyone eats fried chicken, watermelon, and cornbread, but you would have to be completely retarded to not understand the delicate nature of putting that on your fucking menu for black history month. lol
again, like i said earlier, there are plenty of other dishes to put on your menu outside of fried chicken, corn bread, and watermelon. thats like putting spaghettios, spaghetti and meatballs, and digiorno on the menu for Italian month. yes, spaghetti and meatballs is not a traditional italian dish, and digiorno is the last name of a canadian based company from the early 90s, but was kinda marketed as italian in its commercials. the school could have had fried chicken, as there are many west african dishes involving fried chicken. they could have also chose a recipe for collards greens, and then maybe for something a little different like a creole dish, or something carribean.
there is a delicacy to handling race issues in this country, lets not pretend there isnt, but you can have “soul food” dishes that are much more interesting and intricate then that basic ass choice of foods. sorry america, since we’re still at a point where people will make watermelon jokes when referring to obama, then you still have to be conscious of decisions like this, to bring in “african american” dishes to lunch for black history month. the laziness of it. i mean cornbread!!?? motherfucker, native americans been eating that shit before foreign settlers even came to this land. that shit isnt a black dish, other then thats all slaves might have been allowed to eat at times. CORNBREAD!!??
if that menu was shrimp creole, fried chicken (made good), and a great recipe of some collard greens, id be like thats a nice meal, they mad. a couple traditional dishes from africa, and creole, a nice blend of american and african cultures from the south.
if national Italy day had pizza and spaghetti on the menu, would it be racist?
it’s only racist against your intestines
I don’t eat fried foods, yet I am intrigued…
The short answer for why this is racist, historically, is because Watermelon, Fried Chicken and Cornbread are typically eaten without a knife and fork, with the implication that people without the intellect to use utensils would be the ones to enjoy it most.
The long answer, I’ll leave to Tony Miller, who originally posted this on Quora(warning, very rasict imagery ahead)
"Early Scottish immigrants to the southern United States brought along a culinary tradition of frying in fats, this combined with West African culinary traditions in the islands of the Americas and combined with island-styles and spices, found their way into the breading and frying of chickens. Ultimately finding its way back to the United States through the slave trade, a new culinary tradition evolved among the slaves.
Chickens and Watermelons were inexpensive foods and (as others have pointed out) considered by many of those times to be uncouth; as such, they were made available to the slaves who (many might now say) perfected the art of the the fried-chicken.
As time marched on and the greater US population discovered that fried-chicken, properly seasoned and fried (taking into account the type of bird and applying varied cooking styles appropriate to the meat, tougher with longer, slower cooking and tender with fast higher heat) was quite tasty, the business-side turned to the icons of the cooking style - black slave stereotypes.
But it wasn’t done in the style of “wow, look what these wonderful people have created”. It was very exploitative and it was more of “look what I got out of my slave”. Perhaps pictures can speak louder than words…

Eventually slavery was abolished and fried-chicken (and watermelon) became more mainstream, and commercially dropped more and more of the offensive imagery and sayings. But we’re left with a legacy of abuse, derision, and prejudice that was directed at black people even as we exploited them for our profit.
I only touch the highlights here, there have been many other negative associations made over the years as well. But, because of the history, there are very strong associations with these foods and the slavery and racism.
So when imagery such as the following is used:

The message is sent that ‘you are a nigger who should be back on the plantation’. It is appalling, but this type of racism obviously continues to have a life here in the US."
I don’t know man. I like macaroni and cheese with my chicken/watermelon though. Add some waffles in there too
what makes this even worse is that the kids probably didn’t give a fuck and were like, “sweet, some good lunch food!”
The last time I tried, the chicken was fresher than the ones served in their American counterpart, that “synthetic” je-ne-sais-quoi those chickens carry. Overall, the marinated taste was really good albeit it was only skin deep. Perhaps, they did not marinated it properly or it’s as deep as the flavor can penetrate? I’d say, it’s really good chicken. If you really like chicken, definitely give a try. If you’re like me, try it once just for kicks. I don’t like chicken but I would get it again just so I can hit on the agashi’s that work at the cash registers…
if national Italy day had pizza and spaghetti on the menu, would it be racist?
Spoiler
it’s only racist against your intestines
nope, because they originate there. although im sure it would be offensive how bad the school would inevitably make it. lol. watermelon was just forced on black people with some type of negative stereotype of a simple minded buffoon gobbling down watermelon in abundance. cornbread is native american. fried chicken is fine.
man, they could even throw in some nice carribean dishes too. they totally missed out on an opportunity to have great food for lunch.
