SBO US ST QUAL SAT JUL 24, Nashville, TN GAME GALAXY ARCADE; SF4, T6 SIDE TRNY

There will be JAMMA -> PS1/2 converters if I recall. Hope to see you Cbus players represent, I may just enter one of the ST tournaments after all and see how far I can get.

Also the UMK3 machine works great, in case y’all wanted to know.

Awesome. Wouldnt expect anything less at Jason’s arcade :wgrin:

That’s NOT my UMK3 machine btw, I honestly think it has issues and it is 50 cents, but you guys make the call, lol

Good news, I’ve almost got a car full of people confirmed to go to the tournament. And they all live in Florence. So barring another instance where my car breaks down, I’m going.

Just for the reocrs I also use a PS1/PS2 controller in my stick, it’s nice to know this qualification qill accomodate other players

Ya, we do have converters, just realize in Japan you use the default setup they have…

in that case converters should absolutely not be allowed. if someone is amazing on ps2 pad and wins but can’t use japanese stick at all, they will be worthless on the team.

^^^^^^^^

completely agree 100% with Damdai. i was talking with Roy Bisel about this exact topic this past Saturday and he agrees too. ST players should feel ripped off if someone using their own personal controls (especially pads or keyboards) wins a spot because they will be completely useless to the team and are ripping off other players who might be better suited to play in the event on Japanese arcade parts

are there any noteworthy ST players that use pad or keyboard, though? That’s not meant to be mean, though, I really am curious.

I agree with damdai and immortal as long as the parts are all brand new or lightly used Sanwa (or whatever they’ll actually use at Tougeki). However, in that case, I would further ask that the 2 cabinets be placed in a single head-to-head setup. In Tougeki, you’re positioned opposite your opponent and can’t receive faster responses by watching/listening to your opponent tapping buttons in your peripheral vision. In a head-to-head configuration for this qualifier, we won’t have to worry about players gaining an edge on that end.

I was talking to Brandon about it and he told me how the layout is…off.

so, get your machine back out of the laundromat and give them this…thing lol

Hey. You could be playing UMK3 with two block buttons and no run. I did that recently. Shit was so MK2.

I like the option to use a converter since sitting right next to someome on a singe candy cab can really suck, I wouldn’t allow pads or keyboards though.

Btw this tourney is going to be very fun

Yeah I’ve always had problem with people using converters and whatnot for ST or any arcade game for that matter. The machine and game were built a certain way with a specific set of controls to play with. It’s an insult to old school players to be standing/sitting at a machine while pad player or random ps1/ps2 stick user is sitting on the floor all comfy or whatever. I realize that’s todays standard but that applies mainly to console…WHICH IS THE SUCK (thanks Jason). Sure people want to feel comfortable while playing and I can’t blame them for that. However, It’s not really pratical for arcade owners here in the states to have H2H cabs.

Please reconsider the converter rule Jason. You know as well as anyone that a person qualifying using a converter and a different setup will only be hurting the team.

NO CONVERTERS OR BUST!!!

That is all.

I strongly agree alot of new players have never even been to an arcade and I think pad players and such should have to adapt just like anyone else link I know that frank and I usually use american parts but we both have practiced on sanwa just for this so the pad players should be doing the same thing because they arent going to make it anywhere on the team.

A few things:

We’re not doing head to head setups. We’re using two Japanese cabinets with Sanwa parts and that’s that on those…one is stand up, one is sitdown. Head to head is not feasible here for us…we don’t have the amount of cabinets or time to dedicate to something like that.

I’m only having converters on one machine so people can use their own stick. Pads are not allowed, sticks only. Most of the people that play this game nowadays seem to want Japanese sticks. I grew up on American sticks and so did most of the old school players, so this gives them the option to use it (though I don’t know any old school players coming).

Bottom line is, everyone knows what is being used beforehand, everything has been announced. No one will ever be pleased with anything. Whether it be speed, stick, lighting on the cabinet, height of the cabinet, chairs, colors on the game, I mean, we could go on and on, people will find something “different” than what they are accustomed to or play on, but the fact of the matter is you know what to practice on beforehand, you know the cabinets will be here for you to use to practice a couple of days before the tournament, and that gives everyone plenty of time to adjust to everything.

Looking forward to seeing everyone here!

Oh one more thing, I have to check everyone’s joystick that they are using before the tournament to make sure they are legal. So if you have turbo mods or some crazy horseshit, better remove em. LOL

Quoted for truth. This will be a great learning experience for me and a lot of other people. I’ve never been so pumped to get beat 0-2 in all my matches! XD

DreamTR: I’ll use the equipment on the cab for ST, but I do have an MvC TE stick that works on 360, PS3 and PS2 in case anyone else needs to use it.

By the way, in case anyone wants to borrow my stick for SSF4, it’s wired like the SF4 TEs, so use Controller Type-A instead of B. I haven’t taken the time to get the artwork customized or nothin’.

I think the best reason to use a PSX stick is you can avoid the shoulder-to-shoulder problem, which is a factor that won’t at all be present at SBO anyway.

blinky: If you are serious about playing in this ST tournament you really should take advantage of practicing against me…
