when Gootecks asked Daigo if he did any special preparation for EVO he basically said “no special training, just my regular 6 hours a day”.
My question is (with school, work, and families) how do these guys survive playing that much? The lack of sleep has to catch up to them sometime. Plus, I know some places are still 100 yen a game, and doesn’t that add up when you play 5 hours a day?
$1 isn’t bad although I’ve seen on nico vids that it asks for 200 yen sometimes… I’m pretty sure SF4 still runs the old school way… where if you win, you don’t have to pay. Good incentive to improve I’d say.
Exactly, it’s taking the shortcut approach…you may or may not win but the question really is, are you truly improving yourself as a player and if so, are you improving more than if you just learned how to deal with even the disadvantageous matchups.
honestly, some of them are bums. from what i heard, ojisan boy doesnt work or go to school. just plays SF4. others are straight business though, and just soldier through it. i don’t know how they do it, but ive seen lots of players here staying all night in their suits and brief cases.
as far as prices, it depends where you go. the popular spots tend to be 50 yen a game, and many of those places even do 3/5 rounds.
Oh that’s something you shouldn’t do in an arena.
100 yen is more than $1 by the way. anways if the winner stays, it doesn’t cost the good players alot of money. Because they win like more than 70% of the time.
Marn…youngblood… do what you do and stop worry about what people TYPE/SAY…
means nothing, your in the action holding it down. Keep up the good work… proud of you yougins doin what yall do. Leave it be an let me have there opinions/hate/whatever

Some top players can play and do this because they are a privileged origin. I believe pyro mentioned something about this in a podcast he did.
Dayum!
Very entertaining, GJ
Daigo says he plays 5 hours a day 5 days a week so he gets 2 days to relax, chill, get drunk, whatever he wants I guess. So it aint so bad time flys when your in an arcade playing over 30 games with just one dollar.
The Americans losing in the first round is a safe bet.
The Americans winning in the first round is a safe bet.
It happening one way or the other isn’t too reflective of much.
I don’t get what people mean by “there’s no random”.
If you’re better than someone at mind-games there’s a % chance you’ll out-cunning them over the long term. Due to the nature of mind games it could never be 100%.
There’s randomness, deal with. What makes random a cool concept in games is how players deal with minimizing the losses of poor guesses, and maximizing the gains of good guesses.
I personally root for the Japanese every time. I generally always root for the team opposite of what I’m associate with…
So obviously I’m glad the Americans lost, but at the same time I recognize it is certainly within the parameters of their ability to have done better. We can all comment, but very, very few of us are in a position to make ANY judgments that are meaningful.
I just wish our team wasn’t so… “lol look I’m cool urban youth”…
Lol nerd rage!
Fail.
Marn didn’t join in 09. Wiz changed the date to fuck with people.
sorry for leaving out the decimal places
Marn = fat
Quoted for truth. The Japanese not only have better access to top level competition, they USE it better than we would. Very few US players can say they honestly train 5-9 hours A DAY like I’ve witnessed the top Japanese players doing.
We went to Game Spot Versus tonight. Guess who was there? Nuki. After playing SFIV for the last 5-6 days until 8 AM every day, dude plays in the SBO tournament and loses early. What does he do? Goes right back to an arcade and start grinding on 3S for practice. Tons of top 3s comp was there tonight too, so it isn’t like he’s a special case.
Americans cannot expect to show up in Japan 2 days before SBO and preform well.
cause there isn’t. that’s another discussion though. if you lost you were outplayed for that session. doesn’t mean you’re opponent’s better. it just means he was better/outplayed you during that match.
Oooooogooooshooooooooooo, and kyabetsu. lollll, top kof players killing the sf masters in their game. everybody better hope china doesnt pick up sf4, dakou might need to start a career tutoring motherfuckers in a year. its only natural for kof players to dominate everything, its not possible the other way around, daigo at a kof tournament would be like a fish out of water. and i dont mean flying fish.
