SBO/EVO QUALIFIERS / Midwest Championships (Northbrook, IL) June 20-22, 2008

OKAY! I’m probably going to take heat for this, but rather me than someone else…

I want to emphasize something that has been clearly stated in the rules for this event for months now:

"10% of the pot from all the EVO tourneys (Super Turbo, 3rd Strike, CVS2, MVC2, Tekken DR, and Super Smash Bros Melee) will be donated to the SBO team.

Tournament Winnings Breakdown:
60%-1st Place
20%-2nd Place
10%-3rd Place
10%-SBO Teams

SRK/EVO are supporting SBO with this decision for donation of the 10% for each of the EVO games.

Team Winners of SBO tournaments will receive proceeds of each tournament to help fund trip to Tokyo for Super Battle Opera. More details will be revealed at the Nickel City tournament site."

Please read and re-read that statement. This means that 10% of the pots for official tournament games are going to the SBO teams. That means that the 3 who qualify for 3s as well as the 2 who qualify for ST will be splitting the 10%.

NOTE: THIS ALSO MEANS THAT THERE IS NO GUARANTEE WHATSOEVER THAT TICKETS WILL BE PAID IN FULL. Funding for SBO teams will be solely determined by how many people show up and pay for the official tournaments.

Also please note this decision has nothing to do with MWC staff. Do not come yelling at Jason Wilson or other staff and accuse them of sabotaging SBO. This has been public knowledge for months now, but I get the feeling nobody has fully read the rules, because I’m getting questioned about it.

An announcement will be made at MWC regarding any further details. I assume this means the actual amount to be donated to the SBO team will be revealed, but do not take that as a 100% guarantee.

Finally, please note that the mystery tournament director will be rigging the cabinet so that your controls do not work properly when you play him, during the SBO qualifiers. That is all.

I second that on a lot of people not fully reading the rules because I’ve been getting questions that have been answered in the first post if people had read through the items.

Everything has been set in stone for months, so everything you see there is official, which is why it makes no sense for changing/adding/removing things at the last minute.

People still playing OLD games?

sometimes, the community does not know what is best for making a better competition. i’ve had to make tough decisions and sacrifices over the years to ensure that things i’m involved with run smoothly, and for the most part i’ve gotten feedback, taking exception to certain people that demand something be done their way. it’s your call, but if as the person running the events you think it would be more beneficial to do something different, you should just do it and let the results speak for themselves.

also, just as a suggestion, being that the SBO winners are completely dependent on the 10 percent of the official tournament pots, I want to throw out there that perhaps some of the unofficial events would consider donating some of their prizes as well. this would be completely voluntary and up to whoever is organizing/running those events. we all know that money is tight due to rising fuel prices, and I bet the tickets to japan will be VERY expensive this year compared to others. just a thought I wanted to throw out there.

We got this covered, man. No worries.

lolol

I looked at the pot break down of 60/20/10 and 10 going to the SBO teams and I almost lol. It looks like 2nd place (first loser) is giving up part of his winnings to sponsor the big winner of the SBO tournament(s). Thanks, loser!

P.S. This does not bother me at all, I really doubt I’ll the one getting gyped this year in any game. With the projected turnout for the MWC this should be supa-hype-

-wes

I wouldn’t mind donating any MMs I win to the SBO teams. Support!

I understand that, but I’m also smart enough to know that it’s alright, and that I’ve got it covered. Relax dude, it’s fine. I know what i’m doing.

I’ll be willing to take 10% of the pot for arcana and melty to donate to the sbo teams. It won’t be much, but every bit helps.

Another important note, if you are on another game in a side tournament match that is not a part of the normal MWC tournament when we call your name, you HAVE to play your match, or risk the DQ. I can’t stress enough to listen for your name to be called, or anyone that knows you to find you, because we’re not chasing people this year REGARDLESS of who you are. I’m pointing fingers at some of the notoriously late/absent top players. No excuses. Everyone is going to be DQed equally if they aren’t at their machine. I know this tournament is important to some people, so please act like it. I know waiting between matches stinks, just keep coming up to myself, Sabre, or DSP to check on the bracket if that is the case.

I’ll also be enforcing that rule ^^^

I’ll ask players to check on their status before i call them for the unofficial tourneys, and if they don’t, and get called up, they have to pause and forfeit the round, as they were supposed to check their status.

But yeah, it’s waaaaaaaay more important that people show up to their official tourney match than a match in a much smaller tournament. I would think that it’s common sense for people to give more priority to the main event, so let’s hope they follow through.

Clarification: Who is the staff for mwc other than DreamTR?

Spooky: This year, it’s Sabre, myself, and DSP.

Thanks. I don’t know a lot of the midwest people so I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t getting anything confused.

FUnny part is none of us live in the Midwest. I’m in Tennessee, DSP is in Connecticut, and Sabre is in Arizona.

Tennessee is borderline midwest and south lol and you used to live in the MW.

I am only 7 hours away, but I only lived in CHicago a little while, and that was back in 97-98. I’ve visited every year, but I still consider myself from Miami since I lived there for almost 12 years.

good stuff. im looking forward to these as well as guilty gear. no doubt that they will by hype tourneys.

ill help w/ setups and running the tourney or whatever else is needed.

What? I never agreed to any such a thing. I never said I was the mysterious tournament moderator…although I heard he’s amazingly good at everything he does, drives a Ferrari, and gets laid all the time.

Actually I’m going for Smash.
