SBO/EVO QUALIFIERS / Midwest Championships (Northbrook, IL) June 20-22, 2008

any chance i could get some info on what side tournies are going down? i’ve been trying to use the search but its been bugging out on me.

Watson, I’d like to see you try to win a tourney with Old Guile…that would be the shit.

This is the 3rd time I am posting to request a MM with you. Dont worry I am not Justin or NKI so I should be free money to you

Free Money!

$10 - $20 - Guilty Gear 2/3 - 3/5

Up to $50 - DDR/ITG/Guitar Hero  (assuming Nickel City still has the machines)

I’ll take that DDR/ITG if I make it. Free money indeed

Just call a bitch a bitch and get it over with!

I’ll take it in Guitar Hero, $50 bucks, FT5. Which version, though? I’ll make the drive just for that. As for a machine, perhaps someone will have a Red Roof room we could use, I may even be staying the night up there. I haven’t finalized my plans, yet.

Grog + Ravener. sounds good.

as for GH, i could bring the 360 and we could play GHIII. I only have one guitar though.

Quick Q… anyone got a room / wants to get a room from Thursday through Monday (or Sunday)?

NKI - Cool!

DreamTR - I understand. Thanks for running this!

DSP - Play NKI on arcade you bum! Jeez! (P.S. come practice in the city sometime)

LFTRPLLR - Are you reading this thread / going to MWC? Money match? Blanka-Fei 3/5 $20?

funny how there was KI talk for a while there…I just recently downloaded the soundtracks to both games after watching footage of KI 1 Arcade mode 'cause I was educating a younger co-worker on what it meant to get hyped in an arcade and KI is good for that because it has the best fucking announcer ever.

Just as another FYI, there aren’t going to be tons of TVs for people to be playing on for games other than the tournament. There might be 2-3, but that’s it.

Oh, and I’m saying it now. Next year, CVS2 WILL BE ON ARCADE. Only reason I don’t do it this year now is because of the previous announcement of console on it.

Would you play a real game of softball with a whiffle ball bat? Would you play tennis with a ping pong paddle? Would you race in a car that was standard, if you don’t know how? That’s what it’s like playing on american controls for me. I haven’t done it more than 3-4 times in the past 3 years, and I suck at it. So why would I play someone for money when I know I’m going to miss the vast majority of things I’m trying to do? That’s just called being stupid. That’s also the reason I don’t go to CF - not only is it controls I’m not used to, but it’s a tiny cramped cab, and the controls barely work. Fuck that arcade.

Let me also make something perfectly clear. Side tournaments are just that - SIDE tournaments. If you are up in an official tournament, and you are called but are in the middle of a game of a side event, you had better put down the fucking controller and come running to the official game. There is zero tolerance for people who hold up official games for 20 minutes because they’re playing some bullshit on a laptop or your grandmother’s tube TV. It’s a courtesy that you are even allowed to hold side events, and you should treat the situation exactly like that - be grateful that you’re even allowed to be there playing that piece of crap, and get the fuck off when you are called for an official tournament game.

Also, I strongly advise that everyone take a look at the times on the very first post on this thread. I am particularly addressing the Guilty Gear, Marvel, and Smash players. 11am MEANS 11 AM. These events WILL start at that time whether you like it or not, and signups begin 1 hour prior to the event. If you walk in at 12 or 1 and expect to get in, be prepared to be told to go fuck yourself, or to face the best player in that tournament as your first round match. Zero tolerance for lazy fucks.

One final thing - last year, there were a couple of instances of people trying to complain and talk shit about how the event was being run. I personally witnessed someone become a 5 year old and try to start something with Jason Wilson in front of me. If you don’t like it, don’t come, or just leave. Nobody cares that you were taking a 40 minute shit and missed your match, nobody cares that you don’t like the controls something is being played on, and nobody cares that someone sneezed next to you during your match and you spazzed out. You will not get your money back if you pay for something and then decide not to play in it. Grow the fuck up, or get the fuck out, period. The tourney administrators are all grumpy old men who have heard pretty much every complaint and excuse possible, and they do not care. So whiny bitches, prepare for disappointment!

So after reading the above, I would say it’s a fair assessment to please be on time to your matches.

You know what games are running on arcade standard.
You know what kind of sticks we are using.
You know what games are running on console standard.

Everyone should be prepared and not show up bewildered by what is going on.

If this is your first tournament, welcome! But be prepared to wait awhile between certain matches if there are a ton of people.

As another note, the only arcade tournaments running for EVO qualfiers will be:

3rd Strike and MVC2 will be running on the 33 inch deluxe arcade cabinets. 3 cabinets.

ST will be running on 25 inch blue Q Sound cabinet, 3 total.

This mystery director sounds like a JERK drunk with DQ’ING POWER!

Looking forward to JetPhi coming out of retirement.

:wgrin: Hi Phil :wgrin:

I’ve been playing ST at CF for a good while already and those are the only American sticks in ALL of CF that respond well.

The cabinet is unplayable. It’s small enough as it is, fighters aren’t supposed to be put in that type of cabinet. But they insist on putting it next to games like DDR which give you even LESS space to play on. In addition, Midwest is the only tournament that uses arcade, so what’s the point of playing on arcade besides that?

Well, granted it’s not a showcase cab, I can assure you it’s not next to a DDR machine anymore. It’s actually in a more playable area.

DSP: Just play it. You used to play on arcade sticks that were US before. Heck, I WISH I had a place here with anyone playing ANYTHING, let alone ST. THough I know that might still be an hour away, at least it’s something.
