SBO/EVO QUALIFIERS / Midwest Championships (Northbrook, IL) June 20-22, 2008

If I build an arcade panel that allows for the swapping of american/japanese style parts, can I use it when I play my matches?

I don’t really want to try to qualify for a tournament on the wrong parts

They aren’t.

jion: yeah they are. jap board uses differnt speed numbering. and none of the speeds really match the us speeds dead on. on top of that, japan uses a slower speed than the US, as well

I just saw the thread about the PS2 -> Supergun converters…

DreamTR, I take it there is plans to use them for the tournament? Assuming they are completed and working as intended by the tournament date

ok its sbo qualifiers so is HnK gonna be here n is it the arcade version or ps2 version i might come if u have this here

afaik, the us wasnt given a slot for HNK. just ST, 3s, and i think ggxx

axel: no doubt, if it gets to dream and they work, they will definitely be available to use. but keep in mind, theres no button config in arcade games, so buttons would need to be wired up to confrom to the converter to get the correct button placement, which would probably be the ps2 capcom default layout(hori sticks conform to the default layout as well)

Yeah but it shouldn’t be a big deal if people just use QD’s…

im willing to bet, most dont use QD. i do know that many people do use mas and hori sticks tho, which will conform to the capcom default. so it will please the majority for sure.

of course, this all depends on if dream ever gets these adapters. he’s been waiting like 5 months for these. so the chances are rather slim right now. then testing needs to happen to ensure theres no input lag or input errors.

hopefully we get lucky, and everyone wins =)

damn
that blows i really like that game too

Rewiring my stick would be a very small price to pay to be able to use it in the tournament

I’m crossing my fingers

Alright, does anyone need a team mate for SSF2T? I will either be O.Dhalsim or Claw.

i do

Honestly guys, it’s just not feasible all this stick swapping and wanting to play on “your stick” type deal. I see all these complaints about not being able to use their stick, but do you realize most of us had to deal with playing in arcade ST tournaments on Perfect 360s making it extremely tough for some people to block for something like 10 years?

The sticks we are using are noted in the thread beforehand.

I went out and bought 3 Japanese ST boards with my own money so we don’t have any issues with the board in Japan.

There is an option to use Japanese or US sticks at SBO for the US Team, but in order to qualify for this, you’re probably going to need to practice the game on US sticks.

The SuperGun/PS2 converter is not going to play any role in this because then we create problems for players that need a stable surface to play. Super Gun does not help with this.

Quick disconnects for each player during team matches? Logistic nightmare. The ONLY solution for something like this is to have a CigarBob like cabinet with interchangeable panels and 39238298389 different types of sticks and configurations or plugs for those PS2/SuperGUn converters to make everyone happy.

We are going to make do with what we have. If many of us have had to deal with years and years of adjusting to a stick at the arcade we go to for a tournament, I don’t see a reason why we need to jump through hoops when it’s just not possible.

Again, everyone wants something different.

Japanese sit down cabinets? Too small. Someone wants head to head cabinets.

Can’t play on American sticks. Need Japanese.

Can’t play on Japanese sticks. Need American.

Can’t play unless I have my custom stick. Need to play on Console.

Console not an option here, I need a PS2/SuperGUn converter.

I can’t play when I am sitting on the floor. Put the joystick in your lap or on a chair.

I can only play when I am standing. Build a special stand for your joystick with the hopes we have a PS2/Super GUn converter since we suddenly switched the tournament to Super Guns and not arcade cabinets.

The stand is not stable. I need an arcade cabinet to play on. Repeat First Step/

You see my point? No one is going to be happy 100%. But at the very least, you know I have 3 Japanese ST boards. YOu know it is on Turbo 3, and you KNOW these cabinets will use Competition iL Sticks or Ultimate Hard Spring Sticks.

very good post. thats the bottom line. nothing is really going to change. and he is right with the ps2/jamma converter, it will be hard to setup more space per cabinet for the stick placement, when its already a tight fit in the room.

this is a balls to the wall arcade tourney(mostly). adjusting to the sticks is just part of the arcade culture and old fashioned.

fucking THANK YOU! if the sticks or whatever weren’t up to par, we moved on to a different game and called it a day…when did people forget about that?

My point about the QDs (which doesn’t matter since we’re playing on cabinet) is that if your stick is wired with QD’s, any button configuration could be achieved in a couple seconds.

 all of those are me.

just let me play on jap sticks and im all set

I don’t think its going to happen unless Jason Wilson magically pulls out some japanese H2H cabinets out of his ass.

Yes if it’s console or Super Gun.

Arcade makes it harder if you have a custom stick you wanted configured for arcade. Unhooking arcade QDs, hooking up your stick, reconnecting the other after matches, just a time gobbler.

But yes, arcade makes it a moot point for all of this.

Riot.Exe: I completely agree with you on all this. So many people just are “expected” to be able to use their custom sticks for arcade stuff or preferential treatment for them to be able to play to their maximum ability.

If this was the case, we should be playing on Arcade so the Japanese players can play at their best in every game at EVO instead of this stigma that we have caught up to them on certain games because we force them to play on our console when they come here.

Realize this, when they come here, they KNOW they are playing on console. Just like when you come to MWC, you KNOW you are playing on whatever arcade thing we throw at you.

Most of the people requesting to use their sticks have only been around the scene in the last 4 years or so, and we’ve had to be used to whatever stuff was at arcades for 13 years until EVO became console.

Anyone remember the stick/button setup at B4 (EVO 2001) in Sacramento? Wow. We made due with what we had, though. Simple as that.
