SBO/EVO QUALIFIERS / Midwest Championships (Northbrook, IL) June 20-22, 2008

LOL, you honestly think American vendors have Japanese cabinets? I’m not the EC or WC.

Line me up for 5 and I wil buy them right now. $400 each, Cali style, LOL

hmm, last year 3s didn t get a choice(new rule), and the button layout stays no matter what. practicing on american sticks in japan isn t likely to happen either

it was just a suggestion.

Even though Graham and Alex never played on Jap sticks before they still did well ini sbo using those sticks. One could argue that their experience on multiple sticks gave them that ability to play on jap sticks without much trouble of adaptation.

Case closed.

Japanese 3.

I guess there should be the same option at the quals as well then.

Well, default settings on 2 it is. FINALLY.

If there are Japanese reps in the USA, I could see it perhaps, but we have to make due with what we have. In a perfect world, everyone would use their favorite style of sticks and button layout and ample seating arrangement, but everyone is well aware what is being used months before the tournament.

Like the AE SBO arcade quals tournament on American sticks last year at FFA, this is going to be the same style throughout.

Well, we tried to have a US/JPN hybrid setup on hot-swap to US/US, but there was some really strange wiring issues between the Astro City and the US upright for Super Turbo. Alex and Graham could tell you all about it (fuzzy screen). The hotswap worked just fine for 3rd Strike. Nevertheless, wiring a hybrid setup is still a pain.

EDIT: Also, good luck on finding Japanese cabs from a midwest amusement machine distributor without getting murdered on shipping. Jason’s right, it simply isn’t practical.

IIRC there was a namco arcade close to O’Hare that had some jap head to head set ups, probably in the irving park mall, but I believe they closed for business but if you can get in contact with them they might be willing to sell their h2h cabs possibly.

In any case, 100% confirmation on what type of sticks to be used would be nice asap. This helps out players who are not so good and need to practice like me :woot:

Perfect 360s for 3rd Strike.

Happ Ultimate or Competition Heavy Spring for ST.

thanks for the heads up. so did alex and graham use american sticks last year? the reason i was so adamant about the issue is because I specifically read about one of them posting about the difficulty of adapting to jap sticks, I wasn’t aware they had a choice. thanks for the info once again

LOL, that hella made your day, jason!

Hey, where’d HD remix go?

Ubersaurus: It won’t be out by then, so we’re using arcade ST instead…

There is a “perfect world” it’s called “console”…where low and behold u can create an arcade stick (with all the fixings - 360, hori, Jap/American style, 6/4/2 buttons, colors, weight, etc.) plug in and play…and someone else…who’s like “Arcade stick? Get da fuck outa here…LMAO!!!” can just plug in and play their handy dandy…notebook…I mean controller.

Also need I mention, a man can have his SPACE playing on console. Now I’m a pretty big guy (6’3 240lbs) and me trying to squeeze in that "Ity - Bity’ Arcade is a challenge by itself. And then on top of that trying to squeeze in and play on a arcade cabinet is simply the worst and super uncomfortable. Have u played CVS2 at Nickel City? I can see why it’s going on console…good call by the way. I guess that’s why the only arcade game I really play is Tekken DR. Because of the option of being able to use your ps2 controller of course. But looks like dual cabinets kinda fix most of the issues I mentioned earlier.

Makes perfect sense to me…

Someone find these guys some dual cabinets of ALL the games Present at MWC/SBO!!!

We’re not getting dual cabinets. It would be nice to have PS controller ports, but it’s not feasible. We’re not going to all console.

Only reason we are doing CVS2 on console instead of arcade is lack of boards. Has nothing to do with a cabinet. We can put anything on a showcase cabinet if we wanted to.

Console games are different than arcade. It has been said many times this is a hybrid tournament. CVS2 is faster on console, 3s is not the same, let’s not even talk about ST, and Dreamcast systems break all day.

I’m an arcade player. I can’t sit on the floor. I need a stable stick at ample height looking at a monitor. What are you going to do for me? Build me a stand with perfect height that is made of concrete that does not move since I grew up playing on rigorous arcade cabinets that weigh 300 pounds. Doesn’t work.

Perfect world for you because you like console and like using a pad. This is the only arcade tournament in the US left. It would be nice if we got some credit for keeping the legacy alive and not have the arcades run to the ground and then wonder exactly why arcades suck in the UNited States with such little support from the “console” crowd.

seriously, the whole bitching about arcade thing is so played out now. i remember a few years back when evo switched to console and was damn near boycotted. funny how its the complete opposite.

im sorry, but for those of you bitching about arcade, dont understand how the old school people are with this. we like arcade over console, for MANY reasons. let us have our one stinking semi arcade tourney out of the 8937456873653657853786 console tourneys per year.

seriously, the bickering is getting old
