SBO/EVO QUALIFIERS / Midwest Championships (Northbrook, IL) June 20-22, 2008

Toronto has the cabinets to run the SBO qualifiers and the pool of talent to make for a very difficult 3S qualifier. I can only assume that the US players wouldn’t want to make the trek up to Toronto and throw down with a community this size that basically only plays 3S though.

Nestor; I would be happy to co-ordinate a GTASF/TGA combined effort for SBO qualifiers assuming it was done over Memorial Day weekend. I had put aside that time for EVO East and it wouldn’t be a big issue for us to come down to TGA instead. All of the GTASF that have been to TGA have raved about how great an experience it was.

if this were an issue about the US community, fuck it; learn how to play on US sticks. but with SBO qualifiers the goal is to send the best team to compete in Japan. There was a European qual run with PS2 hardware, so unless the rules have changed from last year I don’t see what the problem is. What good would it be to send over players that are handicapped from the getgo? Also, would the flights be paid for? I have no ill will towards MWC; I just want to know as much about the SBO quals as possible, thanks.

europe was run on ps2 for 2 years

i am not shitting on MWC i’ve wanted to go to the tourny and such in the past…

i agree with eric and that more info needs to be released about this… not just that there is quals and come.

Angelic: scratch that. We are holding the quals, not anyone on the East Coast. I don’t appreciate you trying to hijack the thread and asking Nestor to hold quals instead with him. Not cool.

I don’t know if there is an ECC this year, I don’t know anything about that anymore, I just know about MWC.

Again, to clarify this, if there is some issue with TGA or whatever they had, DO NOT PUT ANY BLAME ON ME FOR THIS, I am just running 2 SBO ARCADE tournaments with the setups I stated, and that’s final. End of discussion. UNLESS you guys are lugging cabinets and boards to MWC. If not, why complain if you aren’t helping the cause?

I’ll have more info about the SBO quals as I get it, including flights to Japan. I know the rules for ST will be Game Newton rules:

Team 1 Team 2
Player A PLayer A
Player B Player B

Team 1 PLayer A vs Team 2 PLayer A
Team 1 Player B vs Team 2 Player B

If Team 1 wins both, they advance. If games are tied 1-1, Winners from each match will face. One character throughout the tourney, but you can have O Ken and N Ken on same team.

What do you mean , it wouldn’t have anything to do with SBO quals. Those are officially at MWC. I only meant something to replace ECC sorta. If it all goes down tho you’re welcome to contact us to set something up. Later

Apologies, it wasn’t meant as a hijack. All I’m saying is that there are venues and/or groups that are capable of hosting SBO qualifiers under the criteria that the players are asking for. Trust me, I’ve run Toronto’s scene for five years. I don’t really need any extra work. However, I can understand the need for Japanese cabinets in order to qualify for a Japanese major.

I can fix the control panel problem if they let me since i know what cabinet they are going to be using.

i am waiting to talk to DreamTR now.

Angelic: Understood. But as you know, a lot of quals here for SBO have been on US sticks as well. If I had Japanese cabinets, sure, but I don’t. If I had PS2 converters ala Tekken, even better, but I don’t.

Sage: I hope you resurrect ECC, since that tournament has been running almost as long as MWC.

dreamtr
sage meant that the players from tga where the sbo qual was ran for 2 years prolly wouldnt travel out to mwc to play on american setups

its times like these when its good to have multi stick knowledge…

i miss the old days. much simpler times =/

i prefer sanwa sticks but i can play on happ 8 ways
most of the people who play on japanese style sticks just dont like p360
i cant block down back on them to save my life

i like the original p360 stick and can use them ok but the newer ones are shit

If there is a way to get head to head cabinants to MWC would we be able to run it on them?

There is someone in Iowa with like 3 H2H cabs. 2 w/japanese ST and one with 3s (new type though so we would have to use one from NC of something).

With something as serious as an SBO qualifier controls should not be a limiting factor for some players.

I hope some sort of agreement is met for this.

Humbag: If you guys can get Japanese stuff over, sure. I have no problem with it, someone has to step up if that is the case. If not, we’re using what I said we are using for SBO. Some people still like US sticks over Japanese. Heck for years I complained about 360 sticks and I was told to “deal with it”, so let’s see who comes up with cabinets for this if they want Japanese stuff.

That’s what’s hilarious about all this now that I think about it.

Back in the day, you played on the sticks at the tourney. You got used to them beforehand and that was that. Now, everyone complains that they can’t play on their pad/stick/button layout/cabinet size/glare on monitor/insert excuse here style of cabinet.

And if arcade players complain about this? Console player says: ADJUST, DEAL WITH IT.

That’s why I find this hilarious and hypocritical.

In 3s:

My money is still on some Justin Wong based team, or FFA based team, neither of which will complain about sticks, they’ll just win.

But yes, at the very least, I’m open to Japanese cabinets with boards being brought in for SBO.

I love you too jason

For those who suggest doing the SBO Quals on console. You = fail. SBO is ARCADE ONLY.

U.S. Street Fighter Arcade has been played on American sticks for more than a decade and now people complain that they can’t play their best on American sticks? Man, since when did peeps get so Japanese pussy-whipped?

In terms of U.S. ST teams, Cali is going to take the SBO qualifier anyways at Midwest, so it doesn’t matter what stick you use. You can use programmable Japanese sticks for all I care.

since you’re gonna fucking fly over to japan and play on jap sticks? get that shit outta here. we don’t need people that won’t even be able to do the basics to go over there and not even be capable of playing their best.

LOL. If you can’t do the basics on both types of sticks then you never had a chance.

will there be another qualifier in the US (a west coast one)?

Footsy: I have no idea. There should be one on the WC, but there have been no announcements yet.

hope you like sfex 3 because there are 0 snk games in the lineup, but hopefully something can be worked out
