SBO/EVO QUALIFIERS / Midwest Championships (Northbrook, IL) June 20-22, 2008

Everything that had to be posted was already stated what type of tournament this is. Not sure why everyone keep reiterating the same stuff over and over again.

It’s going to be arcade/console. There’s a VERY GOOD REASON WHY WE STILL RUN ARCADE TOURNAMENTS.

I mean, what do you guys want, 100% console tournaments and 0% arcade tournaments? Gee, real fair to the guys that still play arcade games. All the 3rd Strike players that love watching Family Fun Arcade videos and Japanese player combos, you realize they still play in arcade tournaments, correct?

I still don’t understand why people keep posting about these changes, especially now that there are no top 8 qualifying for EVO Worlds.

EDIT: Take a look at the first post now as to why we are still running arcade tournaments.

I have a question/comment that wasn’t answered in the DL thread. I’ll just copy-pasta it here. It’s regarding the Tougeki GGXX:AC qualifiers.

"So apparently the actual qualifiers in Japan don’t happen until the spring/summer season (specifically April to July)… which is pretty far from today’s date (if it’s held in July, of course). Why must we have our qualifiers so early? Is there a specific reason that they need to be done so early and within a month from now? Surely it would make more sense to have the date for the qualifiers be on a later date, allowing even more people to free up their schedule and attend a Tougeki qualifier event… and the event being held at an actual arcade as opposed to an anime con would be better.

I’m expecting the answer “the date has been finalized and will not change”, but I’m sure the community as a whole would think that holding qualifiers at a later time, allowing more people to free up their schedules to attend, would be ideal and best for the community."

uhhhh wait a minute, what kind of cabinets are SBO quals specifically being run on?
Theres only 2 games?

curious about this as well

Dream, thanks, just the fact that oure giving us any resources is awesome, given the hectic schedule. I’ll talk to the community and see how we’re going to handle this, then I’ll get back to you definetely. Thanks!

Oh…an now that this is a SBO qualifier (I should have guessed this was happening…) just made this tournament MUCH MUCH better…can everyone stop complaining about it being on Arcade (and not console now?) Though I wonder what games will be held and on what cabinets…

Yeah thats fine too…I’m fine with just one TV…we got three days pretty much I’ll just make it happen all there is to it…

nigga you no they fucked up so stop it with the bull shit.

What cabinets are the 3S SBO qualifiers going to be on? Toronto plans on sending a pretty large team to try and take the spots. Considering we play on Japanese Versus cabinets and that’s what SBO is also played on, we obviously have a vested interest in the type of cab.

you better hope they have the jap set ups or yall just going to come down for ntohing

Ed, it might not even be that bad. I know there’s no Evo East qualifier this year where we were all “assuming” for the quals to be held but MWC is a fine alternative. IF it was Evo East it would have most likely been console (because who’s going to spend the money to get a japanese cabinet/3s sent all the way out there to Evo East) and people would have still complained most likely. MWC It’s central to everyone else and DreamTR has been pro-arcade as long as I can remember. I’m not going to say this is a bad thing until I get more information. DreamTR tourneys are usually some of the best tourneys out there. Of course I would have loved for it to be at TGA because Andy is a awesome guy that goes waaaaay out of his way to help the players, and its on Japanese cabinets which is <3 but it seems like money (or something we dont know about) is a problem this year. :shake:

and yeah we dont know what cabinet stuff will be on.

Console isn’t the issue tho, its the fact the SBO is a JAPANESE ARCADE tourney and playing quals on an American stick isn’t going to cut it for alot of people. I already know nobody from TGA is going if this is true. Even tho im not too leaned on console qualifiers that would be an easy fix to this problem due to people using whatever type of sticks they are accustomed to. But that wouldn’t matter anyways because in the end you’d have to switch to Japanese style.

Nestor are you gonna come back full-force bro??? I still want you entering in Tenka…you and me can team up vs. Tokido in SST…

:smokin: :nunchuck:

How u been man???

is this going to be the only SBO qualifier for ST in the US?

i am not hating on dream or anything but come on furby you no this shit ain’t going to work man. unless they get jap cabinet’s. and also wat i find fuck up is ther’s not fucking evo east… wat the fuck is that… damn nigga’s is just saying fuck the east coast once again. let’s do shit for the mid west and west.

Let’s get a few things straight here.

EdPachi: MWC has been run for 15 years in the same place. EVO had nothing to do with MWC for a very long time. MWC has always been arcade and we planned on running this from the start regardless of any qualifiers, etc.

Now, with that out of the way…

Sage: As for you saying TGA will not show? When has TGA EVER supported or come to MWC? I don’t know what that has to do with anything and everybody complaining about Japanese cabinets needing to be the factor here.

If you have Japanese cabinets, and you want the tourney run on em, simple. Find me 6 machines and bring em to MWC. If you don’t have 6 Japanese arcade machines, with 4 3s boards and 2 ST boards, and aren’t willing to help the cause and complain because we are throwing the tournament on American cabinets with American sticks, please do not say anything else.

The tournament will have American Happ sticks for ST and American 360 sticks for 3s.

THE ONLY SBO GAMES ARE THE ONES POSTED ON PAGE 1:

2 on 2 Super Turbo
3 on 3 3rd Strike

Rules for SBO stipulate Arcade Hardware, and we’re running on arcade hardware.

Everyone that keeps complaining there aren’t console games when we are hybrid tournament and your game is not console, then you don’t have to come, simple as that. We have always told people ahead of time what the games are run on, complaining about something that is not going to change is a waste of time. We’ve been trying to support what is left of the arcade community, and no one is ever going to be pleased, but as you know, right now, MONTHS in advance:

Happ 360s for 3rd Strike
Happ Ultimate Hard Springs or Competition Hard Springs for Super Turbo

So unless someone has 6 cabinets to donate with boards, that is what we are using.

I think WC 3s and AE/ST have been run as SBO quals at Family FUn numerous times on American sticks and no one has said anything about that.

As far as no ECC or EVO East? I have nothing to do with that. Go ahead and run a tournament on Memorial Day if no one is doing it. Step up and stop complaining. Running majors and settling them up is NOT simple. Running 2-3 tourneys in one day is cake compared to EVO, ECC, Final Round, etc…

DreamTR

I know you have purchased ps2>arcade converters from laugh

making people play on american sticks when they are going to be competing in JAPAN is just ridiculous and your little converters cold solve that problem.

if not then i guess people need to buy american sticks to practice with…

the difference between p360 and sanwajlf/seimitsu is just TOO huge to ignore.

it’s a huge shame that andy gave up these quals and this is how it’s going to get done.

why is this being held at MWC and evo staff not just cooperate with andy and use an establishment that is well equipped for what is necessary?

at the very least buy balltops for the sticks.

TGA doesn’t care about MWC, TGA cares about SBO quals but that doesn’t matter anymore.
Just throwing the console thing out there cause i don’t live in the past and i heard that Europe has done them that way (could be wrong) but once again that doesn’t matter anymore. Good luck running them.

What im going to do is step up and try to set up a major at TGA to replace Evo East. Thanks for the idea.

That’s funny. I have not received a converter from laugh, and nor has he requested payment from anyone.

So my little “imaginary” converters do not exist. If they materialize, then YES, of course we would use them. Please don’t say I have something when I do not. I’ll gladly use converters IF I HAD THEM, but since I do not, and since the only cabinets we have are US, that’s what we are using.

Andy gave up the quals? Then you can yell at him and not us for at least HOSTING the things.

Me:

That’s great: TGA doesn’t care about MWC, so why you posted TGA would not go to MWC in the first place is beyond me. Thanks for trying to badmouth MWC for no good reason, though. Nice to meet you too.

Read up on the console thing I posted back. Requirements were ARCADE HARDWARE.

i am not going to get into POLITICAL bullshit i’ve discussed with both andy and gavin as to why andy is not hosting them on here because quite honestly it wouldn’t be good for the community to do so.

i was under the impression you had purchased them from laugh as he said 3 months ago now that he had working ones and that you were first on the list to get some.

w/e though…

like i said i am not going to hate on that fact that yall been around for 15 years. big ups to you dream i have nothing but love for yall.

well from wat i was told they gave wizard and peeps the rights to do sbo qu’s. so you saying that mwc has nothing to do with evo east. the sbo qu’s was going to be done at evo eat. unless wizard hand yall the rights to do it at mwc
