I had another meeting with SBO last night to discuss rules and such. They really want whatâs best for the fighting game community in the US. Their ultimate goal at the end of the day is to keep fighting games alive. They want us all to work together as countries and have fun.
All this bickering makes us look bad, so Iâm doing my best to get everyone on the same page. I understand you thoughts, untill we know the rules and such, itâs a very anxious feeling and itâs hard to prepare. So I hear you and understand your feelings.
I negotiated hard for everyone and Iâm doing my best, because I work for you.
As of right now I still donât know who the West Coast qualifier is. Once itâs announced I will speak with them so we can coordinate and work together.
Until then, I canât make rule announcements. Please keep this in mind now, I am under the direction of SBO, I am running this tournament per THEIR specifications. So please donât be upset if the rules are not what you are expecting. Iâm trying my best 
At the end of the day, I am paying out of my pocket for the plane tickets. So if we get a good showing and support, I can recover the costs associated with it. Including the 8 new cabinets, 2 extra SF 3S kits, sticks buttons⌠etc. Iâm confident this will go well if we work together and stay on track.
If at all possible, please try to work together. I understand people are arguing with each other about teams and such. Please donât. We have all been chosen to represent the US. No matter what we call ourselves at the end of the day, when we show up at SBO, your are an American and an âOutsiderâ everyone will be watching everything you do, including how your dress, how you walk, how you speak, how you move your eyes⌠you name it they are watching you.
If you have never been in Japan, it truly is a experiene that floors you. In America we try hard to be individuals, when your in Japan, you try your hardest to blend in.
You have to understand the Japanese mindset. They are one people, one race and one country. Although generally they are very reserved and quiet, they are very kind and warm people. If you respect and appreciate their basic customs, they will open up to you, bend over backwards and gain a respect for you thatâs natural and deep.
Even if the American team loses with 3 perfects, if they play well and act confient but honorable, that will bring more respect to our community than anything else. Of course the 3 perfects wonât happen, we can win this, IF we work hard and work together.
So letâs retain our identity as Americans, but letâs show them how hard we can work together, and how well we can appreciate and retain their customs and WIN!

Yay, time for the new âsummaryâ of the thread for people just joining usâŚ
- The official rules of the East Coast SBO quals still have not been announced, but it has been confirmed that they will be dictated by the SBO staff in Japan.
- There is lots of controversy over statements made by Empire Arcadia members regarding the name of the team that goes to Japan. Shankar in particular has stated that if an all-Empire team went to Japan for the EC qualifier they would call themselves âTeam Empireâ instead of a more patriotic Team USA or something similar. Kind of funny, becauseâŚ
-a. Shankar might be an official member of the Empire, but when was the last time he did anything in a game? Why does he think that he has a say in the naming of a team heâll have no part in?
-b. The Empire seems to be all about unity within the gaming community, but then why would they do something like call their team âEmpire Arcadiaâ and basically separate themselves from all non-Empire players in the USA? Do we really want a group of gamers who think theyâre better than the rest of us representing our East Coast, better yet our entire nation, in a country and a setting where all eyes will be on them?
So, this leaves three questions on our mind:
- Just how big are the heads of Empire Arcadia players? In a relation question, just how far up their asses are their heads jammed? Did they really think that saying elitist stuff like this was going to rally support?
- Do I really have to humble these guys again by beating them out of their money in yet ANOTHER Super Turbo challenge? Will that be enough to take them down a notch, or will the drama continue? Will other non-Empire members step up to the plate at the TGA qualifiers to possibly dethrone the Empire members?
- Will TFGM ever take off the power glove?

Lets point out some facts and factors here. First off this community has never welcomed the Empire for whatever reason you all want to come up with or state. People ask the same old question what has Empire Arcadia done for me? As if we are trying to do for anyone individual. Now Team Empire Arcadia, has been represented throughout the last 2 and a half going on 3 now. This is not new. I donât understand how you all missed SBO calling us âTeam Empire Arcadiaâ Its an official team. Deal with it.
I just put a post about respecting organizations and other people legitimate business. SRK rarely does that. You guys feel that no one can come in the community and do anything on your âBLOCKâ without letting you know. Empire Arcadia is an official C. Corp filed in the state of Albany of the Empire State NEW YORK! Deal with it. I donât care what you think.
When we tried the whole merging EC and WC, we got blasted for that and laughed at. âOh who is this loser riding Justinâs coat tail trying to make something out of himself. Bum ass Empire this and that.â So guess what I did, I said okay, if they do not want to accept us, then we will continue to provide whatever we can to this community whether you accept it or not. Which at most you havenât. Re-read all of you post before this one, and you will see that you all talk mad shit about the Empire.

Regardless of the problems we undergo, a lot of us in the Empire bust our asses trying to help out the FGC. You know that. How many times did I call you talking about working together with the Legends in the East to do something big for our coast. Anyone can join the fun at the EC qualifiers, even if youâre from the West Coast, Midwest or South. But say you have achieved a spot on the team, youâll be considered part of âTeam East Coastâ just because thatâs where the qualifiers were.
Whatâs with all the essays and drama?
Rules will be decided by those SBO people. No point in arguing about that. And erâŚthe whole âhateâ thing just seems lame but yeaâŚwhatever floats your boat I guess.

The most hillarious thing to me here is that somebody can run an âEmpireâ and not have passed high school english. I know its cliche to call somebody out for their english on a forum, but god damn, is the first thing the empire did when it âcame to powerâ was abolish the entire schooling system?
In the end, it wonât matter. The scans of the books show that each team has its own name, but is represented under the banner âUnited States.â Having it say âUnited Statesâ and then âTeam USA 1â is pretty lame, but having it say âUnited Statesâ and them âTeam East Coast/West Coastâ makes more sense, gives the japanese a sense of where the team comes from more than âTeam Hot Dog.â I really donât care what the name is, just win the god damn thing. Theyâll know weâre from the U.S.

Again, I understand differences, and the drama. Itâs part of the competetive spirit associated with the games.
We will have a tournament and it will produce three winners.
Of course when they show up to Japan, they will be a team of people consisting of winners of the East Coast qualifiers. If one, all or none, belong to an organization and they wish to promote that fact, thatâs ok, as long as it complies with SBO regulations. Thereâs nothing wrong with being proud of your organization. Be proud that you have the guts to enter the tournament, be proud of your support of the community. But remember, before anyone has any secondary identification, they are Americans. My goal is for all of us to work together.
If three guys live next to Fenway park, and they are named frank and they wish to call themselves the Fenway Franks, then great, go for it.
If General Motors puts together a team and they call themselves team General Motors, so be it.
I will of course let the team have a name if they wish, but understand it will be noted that they are the east coast qualification winners and thatâs as far as my control goes. Whatever else they decide to accomplish through a team name is up to them, as long as it doesnât violate decency, laws or regulations.
I respect fighting game players for their love of the game, I respect SBO, I respect Empire, they have been good to us. I respect SRK, they have been good to us. I respect everyone who has ever done anything for TGA. TGA is neutral, we do are best to help the community, EVERYONE in the community.
TGA is not going to get involved in any personal agendas or vendettas. Again we are neutral.
The only thing I will maintain is that at the end of the day we are still Americans. The team will be representing America no matter what secondary representation the players choose to represent. Just remember that, I NEVER said that I will control what anyone calls their team name (unless it violates policy, which I will discuss with the winners), Iâm just reminding you that you are representing America. That is all.

This all seems remarkably retarded.
AFAIK, Tougeki doesnât care (and has never cared) what the names of the teams are. They leave them entirely up to the players on the team. The Japanese teams are not âTeam Japan #18â and âTeam Japan #29,â or âTeam Japan Eastern Osaka,â etc. The players pick names that reflect them or are some in-joke or whatever.
If whoever is paying for the tickets to Japan (which is not SBO) wants to stipulate that having some team name is a condition of getting the tickets, that seems like their right, but I donât hear anybody saying that. On top of that, TFGM has said that if that is the case, heâll pay for the tickets instead. That seems dumb, but at least solves any problem there could be at all about team names.
Tougeki doesnât care. Japanese players super do not care. They will read the names once perhaps to see if itâs something funny. When it is not (last yearâs names were pretty humorless), they will forget immediately and never think of it again. In fact, the same is true of Americans. Before this little spat, did any of you remember the names of the two teams? How many even knew they had names?
American qualifiers can pick any name at all, but to the Japanese the players will be âTeam USAâ regardless. They do not care about the North American bickering at all (just like you donât care who is the best player in south eastern Oklahoma). If you want them to care, the focus should be on making another splash at the tournament.
PS- I donât see what âSRKâ has to do with any of this garbage. I know itâs the national pastime of the fighting games world to hate on SRK, so Iâm happy we can continue to pay the ginormous hosting bills for you to be able to yell at us and coordinate with each other, because that is not not ironic at all.
