i need a place too if its gonna be in rhode island…island…island
Really though I gotta respect all that dedication so much love for TGA
But like Shankar said whats up with the 11th and 12th is just looks like its a very solid date so before anything else try to think about that date it would let you do your personal stuff too
japan i think made the rules , so andy has to follow it , unless he talks them out of it
a couple of words should clear this up
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=compassion
and also maybe http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=context
because the winners will be given round trip tickets to japan and he is basically sacrificing his wedding for the greater good of an already vicious gaming community it looks like. a wedding between foriegners with complications but i guess you skipped over that part of his post.
also, bypassing who??? do you know someone else who is willing to run a 3s qualifier on versus cabs with jap parts on the east coast? if you do please tell me because then this whole thing is unnecessary i think.
While i do agree with the date thing there are some other things some people dont seem to understand. Seeing as how some people cant read im just going to quote it and let Andy himself say anything else if he wants.
Forget all you people i’m going to go qualify in a real game:
Shit! Pokemon format 3on3 that shit! I’ll show Japan how to add!!
But yeah, seriously. He said they approached him, not that he went to them…
yeah andy dont jepordize your future with your woman to hold this tourney
just use the original dates its far enough ahead of time for people to get time off
i agree with justin tho it should be double elim if possible
yeah can anyone house a nigga also
Andy if I ever meet you at TGA ill be bombarding you with questions about the process of marrying someone in Japan and the whole citizenship deal. lolz
i can house a few heads i live in a 1 bedroom apt tho so i can throw 4 or 5 people in for free
im like a 20 min drive from tga
not sure when im gona get my car fixed so as payment u guys can take me with u to tga
so justin , art and crew hit me up with a pm ill house u guys
The issue about whether or not there should be an SBO qualifier hosted by TGA really is moot. They’re holding it whether people like it or not so I don’t see the point of the argument continuing.
As for the issue of the date, the reason it even came up is of course because of attendance. But the 2 issues are completely different and unrelated to each other. I’ve received messages from players who attended TS5, and been contacted by TGA in order to work out a compromise that would allow people to attend both tournaments if they wished. Sorry if that agenda of trying to appeal to more players disrupts your ethics. Holding 2 major tournaments on the same weekend is never a good thing. It was more an issue of trying not to detract from each other’s event. To my knowledge, nothing has been finalized and we’re trying to work it out now.
Make no mistake, Texas Showdown 6 would still draw a good number close to what it did last year, but then none of them could attend the qualifier if they wanted to. Likewise anybody on the EC that wanted to try and qualify at TGA but also wanted to attend TS6 would have to choose one or the other. For the EC players to post about how people should not jump to conclusions and be near sighted about TGA and the EC Quals, take your own advise and don’t be near sighted about our goals for TS6. We were drawing close to 200 a tournament without much EC support, except for Justin and a few others. So were not exactly “crying” over the loss of attendance.
For those involved with TGA and the EC Qualifier, good luck with the tournament!
AWESOME NEWS!
Ok, I just walked in the door, from a meeting. We contacted SBO. After doing so, I called and just and got off the phone with Ranma (I wanted him to know asap). You will be happy to know that SBO has allowed TGA to change the dates!!! The qualifier will be the first weekend in March. March 4th and 5th to be exact.
I also talked it over with my girlfriend, she can still make the necessary trips to Japan during march if we do it on the first weekend in March. Of course we will have some major re-arranging to do, but she’s up for it. This means a lot to both countries so we are going to do our best.
For the record, we will be getting officially married in the states, probably in August-September. We will of course have a big party at TGA and everyone’s invited.
The only tricky part is the embassy business and the appointments that have to be changed, but it can be done. I just thank God I found someone that truly wants to see TGA succeed.
Let me also go on record to say that the SBO administration is beyond amazing. They have been extremely understanding about everything. They too want to see all American tournaments be a success, so we are all set to go with the first weekend in March.
I can’t begin to tell you their passion for fighting games. My dream is to have our fighting community so strong that SF4 is such a demand that Capcom can’t ignore it and they start turing out games.
Of course I want TGA to be the best, I am proud of TGA, but I understand that TGA is part of a bigger machine, the AMERICAN community. I want team USA to be as strong as it can be. I really, really want us to start getting excited and practicing. I have been trying to get better as well. Of course I will be entering the tournament. I have no expectation to win, but I want to be part of history.
Just the challenge of playing another SF dedicated fan is enough for me. Anyone who enters a tournament, no matter where they place, earns my respect. It takes real courage to enter a tournament and “perform” for everyone.
I hope that the east coast has a strong showing at TS6. The reason? So people can meet, have fun, support a tournament that will make our community stronger, and start talking shop about working together as team USA, not just for SBO, but as Americans, American dedicated fighting game fans. I will be sending support to TS6, there’s no doubt about that.
So, let’s plan on the first weekend in March, shall we? I hope everyone on SRK makes it to at least one of the qualifiers.
I know that TGA is a guest on SRK, but I hope that through time we can earn yoru respect and be part of a family. SRK has much love at TGA! Our goal is never to overstep SRK, just to be a stong supporter and a very big part of it.
Thanks everyone for the kind words and the support.
For the people that are sticking to their anger that SRK was not consulted first before accepting the SBO spot, although I disagree, I respect your opinon. I’m glad that SRK has such a loyal following that people will look out for it’s best interest. I can only hope that you will accept TGA as part of the SRK community, so we too can have your support and your defence in the times of troubles.
If anyone here is ever interested in getting married to someone from Japan, I will be happy to help. After 9-11 everything has become much, much harder. So much so that getting a lawyer is necessary.
But as always I’m here to help.
One last thing, as far as single or double elimination and other rules, I am bound by what SBO wants. Of course I am allowed some freedom in some areas, but when I return to the states next week, I will announce exactly what they want. Until then I can’t say or decide anything.
So…in closing, who’s coming and who’s your character?
Thanks and much love!
Andy
You win for being the best person on the Internet. :lovin:
Amen.
I’m there for sure now.
How’s your Q doing in Japan Andy? Learn anything new?
I actually won a match! I ran around to the other side and found out it was a dog taped to the joystick.
Lol, actually, I’ve played about 20 times this week, and won 5. Every time I come to Japan I learn something new. Just when I thought I was getting the hang of it, I played someone at Newton who used Gouki, who is generally very easy to read, and got owned. I’ve played at some new places, to get a different perspective.
Their style is just so…different. It really comes down to the mind games so much. They read your parrying so they know to do “empty” jumps into kara throws. Although this is nothing new, just the whole, when do I “empty” jump, when do I throw, when do I try and jump in with a combo, becomes more common place, and more of a mind game. Even “empty” jumping straight up for baiting is harder to read.
I’ve also noticed, depending on the characters, that a more patient playing style is more common. Of course the rush-down still has it’s place, but it’s more carefully chosen. For example, the Yun dive kicks are not the main space closer anymore it seems.
And it goes without saying that their execution is just… amazing.
I am going to try and play a few rounds tommorow before the meeting.
I’ll post my shameful results after.
I did manage to win two matches in KOF X1… lol.
Andy
Can I confirm that the top 3 spots at TGA are considered qualified and have obtained a free ticket to SBO?
Anyone up in the TGA area think they can post up info on the closest airport and like some hotels that are close to the arcade for out of towners?
Remix: nevermind, found the airport
SWEET news, count me in. Anyway, I couldn’t find it(sorry if it’s been answered). Is the tourney 1v1, or 3v3?
That is the question of the day! I need to know whether it’s time to send some SF gift baskets
"Oh look, a new sanwa joystick, whats this card…
Best wishes to you and your family,
and good luck on your sbo trip.
If some unfortunate accident befalls one of your teammates before the qualifier,
I would be honored to help your team in it’s time of need.
Love,
FMJ
