SBO EC Qualifier - Mar 4-5 @ TGA in RI

March 17 and 18? Is that going to be the dates for Texas Showdown? You’d better check…

…or most people might end up going to Texas and dissing this!

I contacted TSD to see if that weekend is confirmed or just part of the planning stage. Unfortunately the 18th and 19th is the only weekend in March we can do SBO. SBO has certain requrements for us that can only be met on that weekend.

Please understand that my back is to the wall. I can only do so much with what I’m given. I am hoping that TSD might be on a different date, as it is my hope to support TSD and not create conflict. I have the upmost respect for TSD, of course.

Again, I am trying my best. I pray everything works out for the best for everyone.

Andy

Ignorant people should keep their mouths shut next time unless you know all the facts. congrats Andy!

Texas Showdown was already in discussion with venues for the date in question. Its disheartening to hear that an event with as much importance as an SBO qualifier happened to fall on the exact same weekend. We’ve been running Texas Showdown in mid march over the past 6 years around the same time because it coincides with most of the Texas University Spring Break vacations. Last year we held the final US SBO qualifiers, but this year I had no clue about anything until this whole situation was brought to my attention recently.

In all honesty I would like to say our date is pretty much 95% solid. I’m not going to resort to the “we called it first” argument. I’ll simply ask, is your date confirmed and solid? I’ve noticed you have changed it already, so it didn’t quite sound as solid. Obviously, we were expecting a contingent of players from the East Coast to be present at Texas Showdown 6, and would still love to see them attend. Most of our negotiations and planning happen towards the end of December/Beginning of January. Which would be why there was no “official” announcements regarding TS6.

In the end, I would like to see what the best scenario would be so that people could attend both events if they wished. Changing dates right now would require a lot of backtracking with the plans I had set already, but I don’t want conflicting events.

Chris

P.S.
Sorry I wasn’t able to respond by PM Andy, I was having trouble answering on there.

Andy:

Thank you for responding to the Fubarduck and Mopreme posts in an adult and professional manner.

I can’t believe all the jumping to conclusions and the horrible accusations that were made, and I want to apologize and say that those comments (made by the SF community supposedly) don’t represent my thoughts at all and I’m embarassed another player would say things like that without knowing the full story.

Man, i can’t wait for the primal rage SBO qualifiers, Talon bitches

Thanks for the quick response. As?I?said before, I will do everything I can to support TS6, EVO and any other major US tourney.

With that being said, I want everyone here to read this very carefully so everyone knows what’s going on behind the scenes.

What I’m going to tell everyone is frankly none of anyone’s business, but because of my upmost respect for this community I will do this. Let nobody EVER say TGA doesn’t bend over backwards and support this community. Because what I’m doing, frankly nobody else ever would.

The first thing I am going to say is that I will once again change the date. So that TS6 does not have any problems. Before I announced the date for March I checked the SRK major tournament thread, I checked the Texas Showdown website, I checked the front page of the TS6 thread and did not see a date confirmed so I chose the 18th and 19th. After it was brought to my attention I noticed the date was announced several pages into the SRK thread.

The computer I am working on in Japan is a Pentium 350. Loading a single page takes literally 2-3 minutes. I did the best I could, I checked the other major tournaments and didn’t see a date. I asked around and the opinion was seeing that last years TS5 was on the Second weekend in March, I chose the third for ours.

Let me explain what is also going on in march, this is the part that’s none of anyone’s business, but I’m sick of hearing false internet accusations so here goes.

My girlfriend and I are getting married. She is a Japanese native. Because of this we have to jump through a million hoops to get her citizenship and be able to get married. Add to this that she is required by law to be back in Japan during the week of the 7th through the 15th, because of her occupation.

We have several appointments planned for the 4th and 5th of march, that’s why we can’t hold it during that weekend. We can’t hold it on the 25th and 26th because the SBO deadline for submitting the documents is the following Tuesday.

So IF I change this date, I’m gambling loosing our wedding, her citizenship plans and looking like a total fool in front of SBO.

HOWEVER because of my respect for this community I will do so. Nobody here has any idea how complicated, painful and hard this is going to be, but once again I will do it. “I’m sorry honey we can’t get married because there is a tournament in texas, oh and now you have 2 less weeks to prepare your tax documents, I love you!.”

So nobody here will EVER have the right to say that it was my goal to interfere with Texas showdown and I don’t want what’s best for the community. Would you gamble your future for a tournament? Of course you wouldn’t, but of course I’m EXPECTED to. So I’ll do it.

I’ll change it to the 4th and 5. I’ll probably loose the SBO spot for next year but oh well, at least people here will finally belive me and I will retain my honor and show why I am the most dedicated game center owner in the US.

When it’s eveyone’s turn here to support TGA when the time comes, I hope you will do so.

With that being said, I will change it to the 4th and 5th of March. I don’t care WHAT happens on that weekend, it’s going to be our qualifier. I don’t care if Godzilla attacks Boston, I don’t care if we get nuked and I’m the only human left un the US. I will get two dogs, tape joysticks to their paws and determine a winner and send the DOGS to SBO if I have to.

I don’t care if someone wants to throw a casual fighting game tournament at Uncle Joe’s BBQ that weekend, too bad. That’s our final weekend, and I refuse to change it again.

So after that ranting, I ONCE again hope any misunderstandings are agian cleared up.

Let’s be serious for a second. I really want to do what’s best for everyone. I hav e to have this date submitted while I’m still in Japan. Can anyone think of anything that would prevent us from doing it on the 4th and 5th? (Besides the fact that It’s going to ruin my life). I certainly can’t think of anything. It’s either we do it that weekend, or we pretty much don’t do it at all. FEB vacation was our only othe alternative, but now that FEB Vacation is out, we are really in a bind. Is the 4th and 5th ok? Can I plan on those dates without being accused of anything? If there is ANYTHING on that weekend I should know about please let me know asap. Please help me people, I can only do so much alone.

Lol, I hope this helped break some tension, make you laugh and help us get on the same page. I’m really excited about working with everyone and going to Japan to represent us. This is a huge honor, I hope this is a wonderful start to a bright future together!

Thank you.

Andy

hey man, its not that serious (tournaments i mean), if you’re getting married its a pretty good reason to keep it on the dates you chose. i dont think anyones going to question your motives if theres a legitimate reason (i.e., putting your fiance’s citizenship in jeopardy). no need to prove anything to the srk community.

wow andy… you don’t need to do all that.

How about the 11th and 12th or 18 and 19th or 25 and 25th of Feb.?

I don’t think is fair to you (who has given soooo much to our community already) to hold it on the 4 & 5th of march…

you dam MAN andy! … much respect for all your support!!!

I don’t think anyone will ever hold it against you with the likes of marriage in question.

Tournaments like TSD and SBO come and go every year, but this is your marriage here, it’s infinitely more important than a video game tournament buddy.

Yeah, seriously. You don’t have ANYTHING to prove to anyone. People are always going to talk, someone will always have a problem with something, etc. It’s silly to get worked up over something like this, especially if it going to alter you LIFE (if you were unaware, life > games. PERIOD). I think that everything you do for the community is REALLY DAMNED COOL and you work very hard according to the people that I talk to, so everyone knows your out to do the best for us. I did disapprove with the weekday thing but you gotta do what you gotta do. If you can change it to a weekend, I’d definately try hard to get up there, cause I want to check the place out! Remember, this is games. They’re supposed to be fun, right?

what was wrong with the weekend of the first annoucement?
marriage > video games

I don’t care if we get nuked and I’m the only human left un the US. I will get two dogs, tape joysticks to their paws and determine a winner and send the DOGS to SBO if I have to.

that shit was way to beasting andy!

u have yellow fever good shit on the girl kid

I heard your bestman is going to be Q.

See Andy…

I think you should reconsider, and keep your original wedding schedulle. Your personal life is more important than the community… even though I know another that wouldn’t think twise. People may hate… but the fact is that Triforce has done this before. He’s put the community before his wife plenty of times…

What I’m trying to say is…
We will all support your final decition, even if the tourney is on a tuesday or what ever…
bottom line is your personal life comes 1st!

We will all support your final decition!

Yea, there will always be tournaments no matter what; Don’t sacrifice something as important as your wedding and your fiance’s citizenship, and I don’t think you owe ANYTHINGto whoever was flaming, but you’re the better man for putting out there. That’s the same type of bullshit that will continue to give the gaming community a bad rep. Grow the FUCK up. :wtf: :lame:

Bottom Line

Hey Andy… make room on that list, your not the only who sacrificed his wife for this community; believe that! So I give you much respect, that takes a lot of selflessness to see something for others. Also from one committed man to another know that your wife or wife to be truly loves you to understand and support what you are doing. A woman like her is hard to come by, stick it out! Damn sure know my wife suffered enough. Anyway on another topic, the other TGA guy contacted me about the Empire working with you on this. I’m waiting for you to get in contact with me on the matter so we can go into further details.

On another note, I just wanted to post something about this community and the actions that Andy took. To be honest with you, to a “degree” I can see where it came off as a selfish act. However to suggest that it was before consulting someone from TGA is a bit insulting. The same insulting that Mr. Wizard is referring to in terms that TGA did not bring this up to SRK about dates and what not.

We can turn that into an arguement but that is not going to solve anything other than waste time. When you look at this, a “Great” opporutnity has been presented. The United State - Fighting Game Community - should be defined by “SRK” not just street fighter. SRK would be limiting themselves…wait what am I talking about…SRK “IS” limiting themselves by not be diversed when it comes to fighting games. It gives off this elitist attitude. I understand that Street Fighter is what started this and it’s okay to use that as the foundation but it should not be limited to Street Fighter. This is the FGC, so promote “Fighting” not “JUST” Street Fighter. Not saying you do, just saying it so it can be known that I said it.

With a west coast qualifier and a east coast qualifier, I see something very important being done…“Consideration” for the players. Players from both coast can now make “REASONABLE” arrangements to travel within their means and distance to get a shot at qualifying. Also more people will be able to attend. BUMS OR NOT!! What many of you fail to realize is that Winning is NOT everything. Winning has not strengthen this community one bit. Getting more gamers involved promotion and endorsement is what is needed. So you guys have to allow more gamers to get involved bums or not. Having two coastal qualifiers is great. More gamers will come out to compete and start the competitive training, which is required.

If this is the case, Empire Arcadia will do everything within its power to support this. For starters, we can host regionals matches here in NYC, NJ and Phil until the Qualifiers at Rhode Island come up. This will dig deep into the community and find new and fresh fighters. This will empower the community. That is more important than finding the best to represent the US. If you think differently then allow me to point you towards reality. If you are trying to change the ideology of how JP thinks about us in terms of street fighter competition… how should I put this…You see how we trash talk about how we suck when compared to each other…well take a hint from that. Nothing you do will change that, even winning. Representation and proper development is needed. Not bragging rights and elitism amoung one another.

Now that all of this is out in the air the best thing to do, is gather all the organizations that is going to be involved in this, and begin talks to see that networking will run smoothly. I do agree that SRK represents the Fighting Game Community however make no mistake if you do not work with the other organizations within “YOUR” community they “WILL” work “AROUND” You. You have to respect the fact that this guy has his own business, just as he respects that this community for the most part belongs to SRK. Its about respect man.

So you have SRK, TGA, EA and possibly others…this can work out to be something big. Lets do this!

Hey andy you should make the 3s tourney for SBO double elim. So it gives everybody a better chance cause out of state people are going to come to this event. So you would make them feel more comfortable in coming to the event. Most people are scared of the single format. And if a bunch of top players go, it wouldnt be fair to them if they lose so early because they could be a better representative for team EC.

I agree.

hey me ricky and henry cen needs a place to stay. who can help an azn brotha out.
