East Coast Tougeki Qualifiers additional information:
I want to post more details on this to clear up any confusion:
The tournament is still taking place at our current location:
257 Main Street
Woonsocket, RI 02895
With your entry fee for Tougeki, all the games at TGA will BE FREE, this includes all casual games and any side tournaments that people wish to run on both Fighting and Music games.
The store will only be open to people entering the tournament.
Of course the current TGA is not huge, it is small of course, but between the three rooms and the hallway / waiting areas, we can hold 100 people. With the additional waiting areas outside we can hold up to 300-400.
Unfortunately, our new location will not be ready in time, I tried for 4 months to make this happen, but to no avail. We will do our best with the space we have, next year we will have insane amounts of space. This year we will work with what we have. All I ask for is your support and for you to do your best at the tournament.
There is plenty of room for everything, and with the format we are using, people can do other activities with their time between matches. I did this so people won’t be sitting doing nothing for long periods of time, if they are eliminated and so that people won’t get bored between matches.
In addition to finding the best 3 players, I want people to enjoy themselves.
As mentioned above, the tournament will be run between three rooms.
Room Number 1
The Third Strike matches will be in dedicated / separate room away from the main part of the store. This will allow for the entrants to be comfortable and concentrate.
Six entrants will be playing matches on 3 sets of VS cabs.
The next entrants in queue will be positioned in the room and will play when one of the previous matches ends.
People can still watch and encourage / cheer / jeer the entrants as they see fit.
Room number 2
The fighting game room as it stands now will be available for people to play casuals or side tournaments on:
King of Fighters X1
Guilty Gear XX Slash
Super Street Fighter II X
CVS2
Marvel vs Capcom 2
All of the machines are on VS cabs as well. The hallway between the two rooms can be used for waiting / watching, eating if you don’t want to be limited in your space.
Room Number 3
The front room will have our Bemani / Music games available for free for all the entrants during waiting periods if you don’t want to watch the other games. This room includes:
Drummania V2
Guitar Freaks V2
Beatmania IIDX 12
Pop n’ Music 13
Drummania 8
Taiko No Tatsujin 6
And Dance Dance Revolution Forever (our own custom mix).
Other places to wait
If you don’t want to hang around the store, and you want to leave within the time allowed by your brackes, of course you may do so. You will be told when and where you have to be, it is your duty to have a watch and be mature enough to handle a schedule. if you are not present when your name is called, you are disqualified. I have confidence that everyone here can do this, I have faith in my fighting game peoples! If you get hungry, the following restaurants are within walking distance:
KFC
Subway
Burger King
Domino’s Pizza
3 Chinese Restaurants
A Thai restaurant
A Cafe
The tournament Schedule:
**Saturday March 4th. **
On site registrations will be between 10 AM and 11:45
The first Match will start at 12:00 Noon sharp.
We will run the entire first tourney and make it at least halfway if not complete the entire second tourney by the end of Saturday.
**Sunday, March 5th **
We will complete the remaining brackets and the third tournament starting at 10:00 AM . The store will remain open until midnight for customers to use the games for private matches or other side tournaments.
I thank everyone here for their support. I apologize in advance if things get a little crowded at times. But it will still be a fun and intense event with amazing competition. I look forward to seeing some amazing matches and I wish everyone here the best of luck.
Thank you
Andy
<Hyped Hey how do u dl the waiver? It says it needs to know what file created it or something.
Outro
The form is a PDF file which requires Adobe Acrobat. There are a few places to download the waiver form from, but to make it easier for everyone, here is a direct link:
http://tokyogameaction.com/sbo%20waiver.pdf
I also I updated the SBO headline post with additional information that has been posted previously (Times, dates, locations, hotels… etc.)
Side tournaments
Side tournaments are not only allowed, they are encouraged. As you can imagine, the SBO quals take priority over everything else, thus the TGA staff can only run the SBO tournament. If people with tournament experience wish to run side tourneys, they may do so. Please decide as a community who will run them and submit the names and the details to me before the end of the month.
I will post the info at TGA so that the side tournaments get proper exposure.
Portions of the funds raised by the side tournaments, will go towards travel expenses for the SBO team to Japan. Whatever you do with the rest of the pool money is your business.
Additional
I just want to say thank you to everyone for the support and PLEASE DON’T FORGET TO BRING A GOVERNMENT ISSUED ID CARD AND A COPY OF THE WAIVER FORM!
Thanks!
Andy
will a passport do?
yes. a passport is the definition of the a government issued id.
if you don’t have one, you are prolly fucked, however, if you have just lost yours and are waiting for a new one, bring 3 other forms of id. not 2, 3 is always best.
and, starboy is a fag, thanx for giving me permission, i feel so much more justified.
and i’m obviously staying @ pjc’s house.
Just a little advice
If you win and are going to Japan and need a passport, do it ASAP. I had to wait 6-8 weeks to get mine. Also it’ll run you about $115 ($100 for the passport, $15 for the passport photos)
I guess I’m coming up. I’ll help you out with side tourneys Andy if you need assistance.
i got one, i went to ireland for winter break.
my mom got me one in a week, she bought refundable tickets and said it was to visit a sick relative, the process of going in and getting it made took an hour, rush that shit down~
We gotta send 3o bucks somewhere?
it was 30$ for pre-registering
40$ at tourny for registration
ok thats cool. that should help send the team to japan.
wait til they get a load of me-Joker
I’ll most likely be there. Any plans for anyone running a Slash tourney on the side?
the new 3s room is the hottness!
3 duble cabs, and couches! couch!
should be mad room to accomidate all players.
possibilities of a coldness factor though, stay posted!..or go to the wc qual.
Everything looks like its shaping up nicely for the EC Quals. I know there was a small mix-up originally with the dates that ended up linking our events. Good luck to everybody competing, and good luck to the winners in Japan!
CB, STOP BEASTING!

Anyway, looking forward to this weekend. Looking to have sick casual play at home since i have people staying wit me

REALLY wanting to learn yun… like badly lol.
Even though i will lose EVERY round over the weekend at home, i dont mind… G2 play better people to get better your self.
Hopefully by the end of the weekend my Duds, Yun, Mak, Ken will have gotten ALOT better, Duds, Yun, Mak… Rush Down 4 Life!
bring some heads with you, i’m sure there will be one, but i’m not sure if you can be in the store if you arnt in for 3s :-\
Andy- why don t justin and ricky qualify automatically? either way they WILL get their spots, everyone knows this. having them in the tournament might create a controversy you don t wanna handle.
watch:
lets say the two purposely qualify in the last 2 tournies.
so in the “chosen” tourny, all they have to do is win their matches(which they will). in the process, eliminating threats to the 1 person they chose to qualify, then bow their matches to him, cutting the “hit list” from 2387 to 238 for that one player(justin and ricky knocking out the player(s) that ll potentially take out the chosen person).
either way it can t be stopped, but if those 2 are guaranteed a spot each, they won t eliminate players that have a fair shot for the 3rd spot. random seeding won t stop it either.
i was waiting for someone else to say something. mopreme is confident, so he didn t say anything, there has to be some guarantee the tourny will be fair to the 3rd person. talk it over with the SBO staff.
o yeh, waaaaaa~:crybaby:
This tournament is objective – the people who win each of the three satellite tournaments to SBO are going. That’s all there is to it. Declaring winners before the tournament starts is silly, and defeats the purpose of the qualifier. Sure if I was a betting man Justin and Ricky would be heavy favorites to qualify… but they are not 100%. Even if they have a 98% edge against everyone else in a 64 man bracket (and I doubt their edge is that great against everyone else entering, especially if top players from the rest of the US show up), that would make each of them a 89% favorite to win a qualifier. So the odds of one of them not qualifing out of three tournaments is roughly one in five hundred – long odds but hardly impossible, and this is when they have a massive edge!
Why not? They very well could end up playing the ‘chosen person’ in the first round, or their chosen player could end up on the opposite end of the bracket where they would not be able to softplay until the finals. Of course, they could be working as a team of players, but they would have to be good enough to get through the rest of the field regardless – they are not going to get a bad player through the qualifier, that much is certain.
I also suspect that if anyone is going to plan such softplay or collusion that they do so discretely. Anyone brazen enough to do this in the open may be in for a rude awakening.
