SBO EC Qualifier - Mar 4-5 @ TGA in RI

VERY odd. I thought Andy was following the japanese rules though…

Nice job Andy.

it’s double elimination. best players will win anyway. whine whine whine

HEADLINE POST UPDATED, here’s a recap:

**Super Battle Opera US Qualification format. **

FFA and TGA have both been chosen to run respective tournaments, to produce two teams for the United States.

FFA having done previous qualifiers has elected to retain their current team qualification format which they will post about in their respective thread. TGA will be
using it’s own format wich will be explained below.

-The entry fee for both locations will be 20 US Dollars, per entrant, payable prior to the respective location. Both locations will post respective payment options.

-Canadian citizens are allowed to enter at both locations.

-Dual Entries (entrant loses at TGA, then plays again at FFA) are permissible.

-No backup players allowed. In the event that an entrant loses eligibility, the team will lose that respective member.

-Players must be 18 years of age or older to participate.

-Entrants must possess the ability to obtain a vaild US Passport prior to May 2006.

-Entrants must be under no legal or civil restrictions which would prevent them from traveling to Japan, including but not limited to: Criminal Convictions in the United States of America and / or Japan.

-Each winner will receive 1 round trip ticket and free entry into the SBO Finals in Tokyo Japan.

-Entrants are responsible for food, lodging and ground transportation and other expenses.

TGA Specific entry guidelines:

-TGA’s job it to produce the top three players impartially, and form a team comprised of those players. Thus, TGA’s format will be single entries, 1 match, double elimination.

-TGA’s qualifiers will be run on the Japanese verion of Street Fighter III, Third Strike. The games will be played in VS style / Head to Head Candy / Astro City Cabintes, and will use Sanwa Sticks and Buttons.

-TGA will remain 100% impartial and use computer generated random seeding. TGA will not adjust brackets or alter seeding, to prevent any accusations of playing favorites or “padding” the entries.

-TGA staff members will accompany the winners to SBO and provide all relative assistance.

-TGA is in the process of moving to a bigger venue for the event, please watch this and tokyogameaction.com for details.

  • All TGA entries will be required to bring a completed waiver form (available for download prior to the tournament) and government issued identification to the tournament in order to participate.

General notes:

-If you are not comfortable with the fact that you might be have to use a secondary character due to teammate consideration and the fact that you might have to play in a bracket with someone you are traveling with, do not enter the tournament, it’s as simple as that. Nobody is forcing anyone here to enter. If you want to try and earn a trip to Japan on your own ability and merit then you are officially invited and welcome to join, we hope you do so.

-TGA was chosen for a reason, TGA runs it’s game center in the best interest of the community and those involved. As a president no matter what decision I make, people will be unhappy. So I apologize if you are not satisfied with this format, I have certain factors I have to work under, I have people I have to answer to, please respect and understand that.

-For those people who again, are not satisfied with the explaination and to look “cool / tough” on the internet want to accuse me of selfishness and being greedy and want to question my motives consider this (if this doesn’t apply, please skip it): Unless you are paying out of your pocket for 8 Candy Cabs, 3 Third Strike boards, and 4 round trip tickets to Japan, you have NO place to question how I run my tournament. The reality is, I will need 600 people to show up to BREAK EVEN on this, which we all know won’t happen. So, I’m not doing this event for the money, that’s for damn sure, I’m doing it for the community. I’m trying to give 3 good Thrid Strike playes the chance to go to Japan. If you can’t respect and appreciate that, and support this project then keep your immature, childish, inane ramblings to yourself and don’t participate. There are several people working very hard to give everyone here a nice, fun community event. Don’t spoil it.

-I wish everyone here luck and I hope we can enjoy this as a community. I look forward to seeing some great matches and playing some very skilled technicians

Respectfully,

Andy

Anyways I’ll make sure TGA doesn’t run the quals next year, sorry it turned out this way guys. He just has no clue about what needs to be done in 3s.

damn…this guy got the juice :looney:

i say team justin/pyro/ricky just enter the FFA qual cause they are the only ones who really stand a chance in japan.

I think this makes sense more yup I agree!!! Single or not… If you’re good then you’re in… if you not good enough… then you go home… If I had money, I’d gladly give it to pyro to go there hahahaha!!!

It’s raining men, hallelujah it’s raining men

Ur dumb, there are many other players in the US capable of beating many japanese players. Although justin/pyro/ricky is one of the best possible teams the US can produce.

andy: although everything you posted looks great, for the sake of the US team, i urge you to re-consider the computer generated random seeding. although that may seem fair, possibilities of having the top players eliminate each other are too high. it may be a better idea to seed the top players expected to win, and then randomly generate the rest of the bracket. otherwise, there may be an imbalance in the top 3.

So what is going to happen if there are 2 of the same characters in the top 3? like 1.chun 2. ken 3 ken…would the 3rd place ken get dicked? would the 4th place finisher get to make the team?(assuming it’s not a ken)

nvm don’t answer. I’m going to shutup now…since the winner at the FFA quals gets plane tickets too.

ggpo team ec

it’s double elimination. best players will win anyway. whine whine whine

Is this true? I don’t think it is.

Also Andy said that someone is going to post the FFA Qual Tournament Rules in the FFA thread. Shogo (the only worker from FFA that actually goes on srk.com) recently quit. I think Andy is just making stuff up now. Remember at the start he was “following all of the Tougeki Staff’s Rules exactly” and now its “HIS tournament.”

I just get the impression that he’s more concerned with this being a “fun event that the whole community can enjoy” rather than winning in Japan.

:lame:

Edit:

Translation: Lets compete against the Japanese with characters we suck with! Good thinking Andy!

your ignorance pains me. comparing double elimination with seeding to double elimination with 100% random seed is like comparing football to scrabble. tell me how the best players will win, if you get justin round 1, and loser meets another beast who should be seeded? if you happen to go 0/2 cuz of unfortunate seeding, i highly doubt you’d repeat what you just said.

Andy’s just following how the japanese do their tournaments. The man knows what he’s doing! Your ignorance pains me.

Translation: I just got back from the office and I’m just about to post FFA West Coast qual rules right now.

Andy, as you have noticed, is fully responsible for East Coast qualifiers for SBO. I(Arlieth) will be representative for FFA and am responsible for the West Coast qualifiers for SBO. Andy is not making things up because he and I have been discussing this for the past two days. I’m extremely fortunate to be dealing with someone who not only puts this event above and beyond his personal concerns, but is serious about taking the community into careful consideration(He also has a ridiculous amount of patience). The fact that the East Coast has its own separate SBO qualifier should mean something to us. If people are to continue whining about unfair rules or take the moral high ground with this opportunity, it really doesn’t speak well of the USA to the Japanese who decided that this was even a good idea in the first place. Both TGA and FFA are thankful for being given this responsibility, and we expect the community to reflect the same courtesy.

Andy has absolute backing with FFA and Arcadia Magazine (aka Japan, not to be confused with Empire Arcadia). FFA and TGA will hold slightly separate rules to address regional considerations. Explanations forthcoming in the corresponding West Coast announcement.

The bottom line is this. FFA and TGA’s owners (Ralph and Andy) are both business owners who have the final decision on these matters. They are the ones who are putting themselves, their money and their livelihoods on the line to make this work. At this point, rules will not be changed except via internal consensus and/or mandate by Arcadia Magazine administration. The two of us are doing everything humanly (and inhumanly) possible to make sure that this runs smoothly and fairly for all parties involved. We’re even allowing the Canadians to participate for the Team USA spots (we’ll get away by calling it Team [North] America instead if that’s the case).

More information will be posted in the official West Coast qualifier thread.

arlieth, does that mean FFA’s qualifier will also be ran through 100% randomized bracketing? i believe that is the only major issue that would jeopardize the end result of team USA. every other rule reinforces the need to come up with the best players. even double elimination cannot prevent undesired results.

edit: nevermind, saw your WC thread. it’s funny to put regional seeding with team tournament. suppose players from different regions team up…hard to seed, no? but then again…we’ll see what happens. chances are there won’t be many entries to begin with…

fuck all yall, dream team triangle Yun Ken Chun…pyro rick justinnnnn!..aint nobody touchin them…

Anything you have to say you can say it to the public on the forums just like I do.
