I want everyone to read this carefully, for the sake of all our sanity. I have tried to
express the wishes of Mr. Yamamoto through carefully phrased nuances, hoping people would be able to see the larger issues at hand. Since this has been met with negative results, meaningless accusations, attacks on my credibility, I will be forthright and explain SBO’s position. I respect everyone here and try to maintain their dignity even in the face of misinformation.
It is not our intent to degrade anyone, our goal is to build this community up.
I am hoping that the people who have chosen to observe this from a cautious position would realize that there is much more going on in the backgound of this tournament than appears on the surface.
Unfortunately I am not at liberty to discuss the details at this time, however when the time is right, I will do so.
This following information is directly on behalf of the chairman of SBO, Mr. Megumu Yamamoto and Yasuaki Matsuda the owner and operator of Game Newton, a high ranking member of the Tougeki organization. I have attended three meetings in Japan, where I have been given the task and authority by them to manage and coordinate this tournament in accordance with their wishes.
The TGA East Coast Qualifier has been established to select a team from the three top INDIVIDUAL players, the West Coast is retaining the team format to accomodate the established teams that have entered in the past and those wishing to use that format. This is being done to reach more people and generate more and a higher level of competition in the US, specifically the East Coast. Since this is the first SBO organized venture in the East Coast this format is being used. Next year if the team system is appropriate, it will be used.
Again, my boss is Mr. Yamamoto the chairman of SBO, I answer and report directly to him, please understand I have specific instructions I am following. I have a direct representative of his office staying with me and will be supervising the tournament at TGA to ensure it is done in accordance with their wishes.
Whether I agree or disagree with this format is irrelevant, This is a Japanese tournament and we are their guests. The fact that we are having these qualifiers is an honor and we should respect whatever decisions they make.
After consideration, and corrospondence from the chairman the TGA format has been modified, please see below.
So please trust whatever discresion I am allowed to exercise, I am doing so. I am trying to remain as diplomatic, friendly and discrete as possible, trying to resolve any issues people have personally as to not detract from the object of relevant discussions about the tournament. So, having said that, I have tried to keep this open for public discussion on SRK because this website is the central meeting point for our fighting game community and is very well respected. Unfortunatley my repeated attempts to use this thread or forum for personal communication and the ability to communicate privately and manage information maturely has been compromised. As a result aAll personal problems, complaints and suggestions, issues regarding this tournament should be addressed to me personally through the TGA website. They will then be forwarded, if appropriate to the SBO office.
Please be advised that only people who have any authority to make any decisions are the president of FFA and myself. On this forum, the screen name Arlieth Tralare is the only person authorized to make statements or decisions on behalf of the president of FFA for the West Coast qualifier.
I am the only person authorized to speak on behalf of the East Coast.
I understand this is a public forum and people have a tendancy to get emotional, which is understandable, however…
If ANYONE claims any authority to modify this or any future aspect of any Tougeki tournament they will be disqualified and prohibited from entering. There will be no warnings or second chances. Please keep in mind the Tougeki president does not appreciate or approve of ANYONE making any unauthorized statements on behalf of his office, especially those outside Japan.
As project manager, I cannot have this tournament dishonored or allow it to be usurped on a discussion meant to further the tournament. I hope everyone is clear on that. I have a job to do and I will do it to the best of my ability. Please understand I am trying to find a happy medium to satisfy everyone, although it’s very difficult I am willing to do my best.
So with that being said, I, being a person capable of absorbing meaningless insults, and accusations, becomes aware of this or anything else detremental to the tournament happening, I will do my best to warn the violators in private to correct any actions, before I am advised to take official action. I understand we are guests on this site and I respect that, so naturally I have no control over editing content on this site, so personal communication is my only alternative. I don’t want people eliminated and to miss opportunities because of their passion or words said in the heat of the moment.
So if I contact someone in private, it’s because the organization wants certain issues to remain outside public discussion, out of respect for my boss and the goals and objectives of the tournament, I have to comply with their wishes. This is not an unusual request, if someone does not wish to communicate with us in private I respect that and will seek alternate methods to communicate, if that cannot be done, then I can no longer pursue the discussion and cannot be held responsible for the outcome, be it negative or lost opportunities. I will do my best, but will not compromise the trust I have been given. Please appreciate the difficult position I am in.
UDATED RULES
After much discussion, and coordination, TGA’s format has been updated and modified as follows:
TGA will be holding 3 consecutive tournaments, within a two day period, to establish three people comprising one team, to represent the East Coast against Japan.
All three tournaments will be best 2 out of 3, single elimination. All characters will be allowed.
Each entrant will pick one character to compete with for the entire length of the first tournament. The winner of the first tournament will retain their chosen character.
The second tournament will follow the same format. Each entrant, minus the first winner, will enter using 1 character which must be different from
the character that the first winner used.
The third tournament will follow the same format.
Example
Player A wins the first tournament using Chun Li
All players except player A, may enter again, for the second tournament, but cannot use Chun Li.
Player B wins the second tournament using Ken.
All players with the exception of players A and B can enter the final tournament, and can use any character except Chun Li and Ken.
Player C wins the thrid tournament with Ryu copmleting the final team of players A, B and C with Chun Li, Ken and Ryu.
These rules will changed to accomodate character conflicts and to offset any problems caused by random seeding. With this format each person will be given a MINIMUM of 6 matches to qualify before they are eliminated.
I hope after this novel, any misunderstandings and / or confusion is cleared up. If anyone is still unclear on this, please contact TGA.
Thank you
Respectfully,
Andrew E McGuire
