SBO EC Qualifier - Mar 4-5 @ TGA in RI

With the new information coming out about the west coast qualifiers (especially the free plane tickets), I’ve decided to stay on the WC team.

Although I still think the format TGA is using to run the EC quals is wrong, it’s none of my concern anymore. Good luck all and see you in Japan.

What an idiot, the actual organizers of SBO are staying with Andy and want to talk with you, and you reply that he has to post in a public forum? You back your shit up, but right now you are acting like a tard. Call the guy and see what they want…

Not my problem anymore.

what a bitch, you’re off the dream team faggot…

Guys, let’s consider the fact that the head executives of Super Battle Opera and the organizers have been keeping a close eye on this thread. This is the first time they’ve taken the time to examine and feel out the U.S. arcade scene. Let’s pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and and move forward, and discuss how we can keep this a professional-level event and bring credibility and respect to the American gaming scene. Thank you for your understanding.

i was mia from the forums, so i had to expell the hate

Wow… This Ec qualifier is horrible random brackets, random seeding and Single game… I dont see why EC qual has to be different from everyone else it makes no sense…

It would kinda suck if you did travel from WC to EC and not qualify don’t ya think? I mean us gamers aint rich! hahaha unless there is a National Gaming League just for fighting games and a good audience. But then again, I guess there will be no JWong, ROrtiz, Pyro team for USA… Now I wonder who will qualify for EC team…

Who are you to decide this? a nobody to me and not speaking for tga but just myself i dare you to do something and if not just STFU.

A god in his own mind…and nobody else’s, haha.

I want everyone to read this carefully, for the sake of all our sanity. I have tried to
express the wishes of Mr. Yamamoto through carefully phrased nuances, hoping people would be able to see the larger issues at hand. Since this has been met with negative results, meaningless accusations, attacks on my credibility, I will be forthright and explain SBO’s position. I respect everyone here and try to maintain their dignity even in the face of misinformation.

It is not our intent to degrade anyone, our goal is to build this community up.
I am hoping that the people who have chosen to observe this from a cautious position would realize that there is much more going on in the backgound of this tournament than appears on the surface.

Unfortunately I am not at liberty to discuss the details at this time, however when the time is right, I will do so.

This following information is directly on behalf of the chairman of SBO, Mr. Megumu Yamamoto and Yasuaki Matsuda the owner and operator of Game Newton, a high ranking member of the Tougeki organization. I have attended three meetings in Japan, where I have been given the task and authority by them to manage and coordinate this tournament in accordance with their wishes.

The TGA East Coast Qualifier has been established to select a team from the three top INDIVIDUAL players, the West Coast is retaining the team format to accomodate the established teams that have entered in the past and those wishing to use that format. This is being done to reach more people and generate more and a higher level of competition in the US, specifically the East Coast. Since this is the first SBO organized venture in the East Coast this format is being used. Next year if the team system is appropriate, it will be used.

Again, my boss is Mr. Yamamoto the chairman of SBO, I answer and report directly to him, please understand I have specific instructions I am following. I have a direct representative of his office staying with me and will be supervising the tournament at TGA to ensure it is done in accordance with their wishes.

Whether I agree or disagree with this format is irrelevant, This is a Japanese tournament and we are their guests. The fact that we are having these qualifiers is an honor and we should respect whatever decisions they make.

After consideration, and corrospondence from the chairman the TGA format has been modified, please see below.

So please trust whatever discresion I am allowed to exercise, I am doing so. I am trying to remain as diplomatic, friendly and discrete as possible, trying to resolve any issues people have personally as to not detract from the object of relevant discussions about the tournament. So, having said that, I have tried to keep this open for public discussion on SRK because this website is the central meeting point for our fighting game community and is very well respected. Unfortunatley my repeated attempts to use this thread or forum for personal communication and the ability to communicate privately and manage information maturely has been compromised. As a result aAll personal problems, complaints and suggestions, issues regarding this tournament should be addressed to me personally through the TGA website. They will then be forwarded, if appropriate to the SBO office.

Please be advised that only people who have any authority to make any decisions are the president of FFA and myself. On this forum, the screen name Arlieth Tralare is the only person authorized to make statements or decisions on behalf of the president of FFA for the West Coast qualifier.

I am the only person authorized to speak on behalf of the East Coast.

I understand this is a public forum and people have a tendancy to get emotional, which is understandable, however…

If ANYONE claims any authority to modify this or any future aspect of any Tougeki tournament they will be disqualified and prohibited from entering. There will be no warnings or second chances. Please keep in mind the Tougeki president does not appreciate or approve of ANYONE making any unauthorized statements on behalf of his office, especially those outside Japan.

As project manager, I cannot have this tournament dishonored or allow it to be usurped on a discussion meant to further the tournament. I hope everyone is clear on that. I have a job to do and I will do it to the best of my ability. Please understand I am trying to find a happy medium to satisfy everyone, although it’s very difficult I am willing to do my best.

So with that being said, I, being a person capable of absorbing meaningless insults, and accusations, becomes aware of this or anything else detremental to the tournament happening, I will do my best to warn the violators in private to correct any actions, before I am advised to take official action. I understand we are guests on this site and I respect that, so naturally I have no control over editing content on this site, so personal communication is my only alternative. I don’t want people eliminated and to miss opportunities because of their passion or words said in the heat of the moment.

So if I contact someone in private, it’s because the organization wants certain issues to remain outside public discussion, out of respect for my boss and the goals and objectives of the tournament, I have to comply with their wishes. This is not an unusual request, if someone does not wish to communicate with us in private I respect that and will seek alternate methods to communicate, if that cannot be done, then I can no longer pursue the discussion and cannot be held responsible for the outcome, be it negative or lost opportunities. I will do my best, but will not compromise the trust I have been given. Please appreciate the difficult position I am in.

UDATED RULES

After much discussion, and coordination, TGA’s format has been updated and modified as follows:

TGA will be holding 3 consecutive tournaments, within a two day period, to establish three people comprising one team, to represent the East Coast against Japan.

All three tournaments will be best 2 out of 3, single elimination. All characters will be allowed.

Each entrant will pick one character to compete with for the entire length of the first tournament. The winner of the first tournament will retain their chosen character.

The second tournament will follow the same format. Each entrant, minus the first winner, will enter using 1 character which must be different from
the character that the first winner used.

The third tournament will follow the same format.

Example

Player A wins the first tournament using Chun Li

All players except player A, may enter again, for the second tournament, but cannot use Chun Li.

Player B wins the second tournament using Ken.

All players with the exception of players A and B can enter the final tournament, and can use any character except Chun Li and Ken.

Player C wins the thrid tournament with Ryu copmleting the final team of players A, B and C with Chun Li, Ken and Ryu.

These rules will changed to accomodate character conflicts and to offset any problems caused by random seeding. With this format each person will be given a MINIMUM of 6 matches to qualify before they are eliminated.

I hope after this novel, any misunderstandings and / or confusion is cleared up. If anyone is still unclear on this, please contact TGA.

Thank you

Respectfully,

Andrew E McGuire

EC can thank me later

Thank GOD!

…thank you for making this format official. I think is the best way to get the 3 best 3s players from the EC.

-I hope you pay no mind to most of the hatefull comments on this thread. Keep doing for the community what you have been doing Andy, and we will keep showing you our support!

…TGA FTW!..

i agree, i can’t wait for the tourny, unfortunatly i am not 18… but i do have a passport and promission to travel… so i dunno if i can enter :frowning:

I dont know if im going to sound stupid if I say this. But is there an Tekken DR SPOTS? That would be great also since WC QUALS has it to

Yo, these rules are good. Better than a team tourney even.

I understand where pyrolee is coming from (but I don’t agree with him being so rude and doing something so lame like posting a PM publically either), but these rules are fairer than teams when you think about it. It’s not like it’s only one random seeding tourny, where the best two players might have to eliminate each other early on. It’s THREE tournies to decide who the real best players are.

That way it’s really the three best players, and not pyro/pyro’s friend/pyro’s other friend and pyro carries the whole team like there’s a high possibility of at the qualifiers where there are going to be teams.

I’m 100% behind TGA this time concerning the tourney format, and I think Andy has been too nice actually. I honestly would of had Pryolee (I don’t care how good you are) BANNED at this point for making such disrespectful comments and acting like a child/internet tough guy also. You do and think whatever you want, but an apology is in order if you want any honest respect from this particular gamer (me).

edit: If pyro’s friend and pyro’s other friend really are the best players, they will qualify in one of the other two of the three tournies then. The three single tourney format offers the best chances of the best players winning and the US putting up it’s strongest team against Japan. The question isn’t why TGA isn’t doing teams, it’s why FFA and Europe aren’t using this TGA format instead?

Nah, I don’t think there are any Tekken DR spots cuz TGA does’nt have Tekken DR cabs or anything. But, hell I could be wrong.

These qual rules are very cool and forgiving big ups to TGA

I want to win in Japan. My teammates will never be noobs.

Japan’s quals are in team format, not just FFA’s and Europe’s.

Also I’m glad it’s not up to you to ban me from SBO based on complaining about obvious problems in this qualifer.

Pyro has stated his intent to not come, the format has been updated, so all these previous issues are not relavant anymore.

As for the new rules, will the people entering the 2nd and 3rd tournaments still have to pay the entry fee again? or does one fee cover all 3 tournaments?

In either scenario, can people come late and enter the 2nd and 3rd tournaments, skipping the first one?

It’s already been decided that TGA won’t have T5:DR quals. I think it’d be great, personally, but it looks like US only gets 1 spot. We(FFA) are very hesitant about importing Japanese DR cabinets because that would be undercutting Namco-USA. It’d also be prohibitively expensive to import them from Japan anyways. I think the DR kit alone is a couple grand.
