Saskatchewan Thread 2012

Come on Ric, i thought you wanted to reboot the scene.

norman figures he has to work. he will probably come afterwards, as i’m sure we will have some sort of fun, as it is on a weekend.

merlin/levar live a block away from the venue, so i’m sure they’ll be there. tyson will be there. me and burzjr will be in there. i have no reason to believe most of us, if not all of us will be in attendance at some point or another during the day.

Yeah man let’s reboot the scene!

Have no clue who from sask will go but I’ll attend. I’ll grind hard in sfxt:)

How long do we get the consoles for? Whole day?

i’m going to set up a meeting with taylor. if any of you have any questions you’d like to be addressed, ask them now so I can talk to him about these issues. i’ll take your questions and ask him, plus I’ll have a few of my own to toss in as well. I’ll probably have to go talk to the matrix about the consoles.

Dunno why you constantly want Shane’s permission or blessing to like SFxT. It’s already well known that he doesn’t like the game, you should form your own opinion on it. Play it if you like it, regardless of what Shane thinks? Seems like every 3rd post, you’re pleading with Shane to like the game, as if it will somehow enhance your enjoyment or change the way you play.

I want a strong training partner in sfxt who can help me improve and I have a feeling he would be great in sfxt. Plus I want more opponents in sfxt since I’m bored with sf4 and mk9 is laggy online.

I wouldn’t mind kof13 but that game is WAY to complicated…feels like a full time job to just learn the basics. Like in kof games I never understood why there has to be rolls and hops and so many mobility options. If the game just had linear mobility like sf I’d absolutely love it.

I’m sure there are lots of training partners available. He would probably be good in SFxT, but it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t have fun playing it. I would only worry about a lack of training partners if you’re already beating everybody you’re playing, which probably isn’t happening.

KoF13 isn’t my game, but it’s decidedly not SF in style, and that can only be a good thing IMO. Why have tons of games that all look and play exactly like SF? KoF is there for people who like the rolls, like the air mobility, like the complexity. SF is there for people who prefer its own unique brand of footsies.

Right now in ranked I’m winning about 97% of my matches. It’s getting hard to level up though because there is barely any players with 5k+ BP so I’m progressing a lot slower now. Not to mention most of the opponents I’m fighting aren’t really that good and I’m not learning much from them.

I would try KOF13 but is end up playing it like sf…and consideing there really isn’t a footsie or zoning game in kof I’d get my ass kicked.

serves it up

I’ll come back in a few hours and see who smashes the forehand winner.

okay am sorry i gotta interject here. Let me get this straight. So you admit that, Kof is probably the best fighter out there with not to many complaints compared to any other game. But what your selling me is its so complicated that you dont want to play it? Your the guy who hated on everygame for being to easy mode and being shit and you cry about games not being about offense and yet look at kof13.

Like geeze am trying to make sense of this here, you act like you appreciate and love the good old games of past, before it got muddled with when sf4 was released. First you say how great NGBC but never play it, then you Say guilty gear is a trash game series (even though you think skullgirls will be good) and then SNK gives you your ideal perfect game on a silver platter for this generation and its “To complicated”

Am not even trying to hate but this makes no sense, you hate on all the greats, but then when SFXT comes out the games amazing and has you hyped for fighting games again? Wheres the logic?

wait… Ric said guilty gear is a trash series? oh it is on now.
What the hell do you think is wrong with it?

KOF supports many styles of play, rushdown, grappling, zoning and footsies. You just need to find the correct character combination that fits your playstyle.

KoFXIII’s basics are the same as any other fucking basics in a fighting game. Learn your characters basic offense and basic defensive strat.

You realize that there are different options because they don’t want to be a fucking SF clone right?

Still making excuses, Ric?

This was surprisingly tame coming from you. Was expecting a little more… umph in your rebuttal.

Alright I’ll keep it real and explain why I don’t like GG,BB,MVC and KOF.

I think those games are deceptive in that they present a overly complicated interface with pages per moves and system mechanics but ultimately deliver in the exact same experience that a capcom fighter does. Once you optimize the winning strategies and tactics, all those dozens of moves and techniques dilute into a few choice attacks that negates the"flexibility"the game is suppose to support. The multitude of offensive and defensive options give the illusion of depth and variety but if you mute the ambient noise you will notice all top players play the same way and win with in the exact same matter. Regardless if its ryu’s projectile traps or eddy’s mixups its still just using a basic flow of tactics. The only difference is that games like SF2 or alpha 2 cut to the chase while games like GG or KOF13 do it in a very roundabout fashion that manipulates you into thinking your doing more then you actually are.

I think it becomes rather pointless to spend hours learning the so called variety these games presents when in reality the second you deduce characters to their winning strategies they become just as linear and limited. I think players from the range of beginners to intermediates will probably be deceived into thinking these games are more tactical and "deep"due to the fact that they require more button mashing and complex input motions, but does a more "busy"interface really translate to depth and ability…IMO I don’t think it does. I think its a lot like comparing the DBZ to DBZ Kai…same experience at the end but 1 skips the filler and gets to the point.

How could you possibly come to such a conclusion having so little experience in these games?

The end result of fighting games is to KO the other player, but that’s about where the similarities end.

You don’t think GG having an air-dash brings in new mindgames that weren’t present in, say… SF2? Or you think GG is a pure isomorphism of SF2, but the air-dash mindgame just translates directly into some other game mechanic? (If you don’t know what isomorphism means, what I’m asking is: if GG and SF2 are the same game but dressed differently, what mechanic in SF2 is the “identical match” for air-dashing in GG?)

KoF has short hops. That means you can go over lows from ranges where you can’t in SF games, and land overheads into combos from where you can’t in SF games. That means you have to block differently, and watch for different threats. Different walk speeds and run speeds means you have to react to situations with different moves.

Feels pretty silly for you to say that games with vastly different mechanics can be played identically. The mere presence of X-factor in Marvel changes how you go about your goal of killing characters, for example. Where is this in any other SF game?

you guys, he’s in your head. stop it.

It has differences for sure, but it doesnt change the fact that the characters who win are all winning the same way with the exact same strats. Where is the flexibility when the end resolve is the same…how does this make it any different then SF2 or a game that is suppose to be"easier"and less complicated. Its all just window dressing to make players feel special…more twist and turns to land in the same destination.
