Hey, just shooting an introductory post to let people know there’s another fighting gamer in Sask. Currently located in Saskatoon, looking to figure out if/where I can get into the fighting game scene a bit around here.
I play:
UMvC3
SCV
SFxT
Just starting BBCS:EX
And I have a bit of experience in KoF13/AH3 but its marginal
Hey Flubsy, welcome to the Sask thread. If you have the time and feel like playing some games tomorrow, check my post in last page.
Yeah man welcome to the scene!
Things have picked up a bit with the release of SFXT. The players here are having a gathering this weekend, I’m sure you could attend if you get in touch with the organizer. Its great to see some players here, names ric by the way.
Edit: I quit SFXT…I just cant stand losing so much. I cant stand going from being the top guy to being the bottom…fuck that shit its degrading. Losing to chao 3-0 was the last ass pounding I could endure in this game…fuck this shit im out!
Thanks for the welcome, Is it only going to be 360s available? I play on a stick, which is sadly PS3 exclusive. I’m looking into getting myself a new one, that would be compatible with both, also my stick is kind of ass. (FYI considering http://eightarc.com/fusion-ebony for anyone who happens to have input) I’d be pretty shit on a pad i’m sure, especially in SFxT.
Yeah we’re playing on 360, but we should have enough sticks to play on. In regards to a nice stick, I bought a Qanba Q-4 a while back and it’s great. It’s the same thing as the Eight Arc, just under a different name I believe. I beileve the Eight Arc site is American? I bought my stick from Canadian Joysticks (http://www.canadianjoysticks.com/brands/Qanba.html) so this may save you some money on shipping and maybe price.
If you’re interested in coming, let me know and I’ll message you the address.
Dude that is fucking awesome, I did not know of that site. I was not looking forward to paying 45 bucks for shipping to Canada. Is the Qanba Q-4 compatible with 360/ps3? Thats the main reason I want a new stick. Also mine is wireless which I’ve heard is frowned upon. (Rocking the stick that came in tekken 6 special edition, the High Tech Game Traders at Acadia was selling the special edition for 60 bucks, seemed like a great deal)
Edit: Hey ric, Always nice to hear about a new surge of activity. I personally am loving SFxT. Maining HwoarangxZangief
Who do you use in SFV fei?
Edit: Yeah hopefully you can make it out dude, im sure you will have a great time at the event.

This is the stick that I bought. And yes, it is compatible with 360, PS3 and PC. After looking at the Eight Arc stick, not only are you saving on shipping, but you’re also saving another 15 USD (don’t know which is higher at the moment).
Yeah, wireless tends to be frowned upon. Some weird stuff can happen with wireless controllers (e.x. people not disconnecting their wireless controllers from PS3, so when they press the home button elsewhere, they end up opening the home screen on the system they were playing on, thus possibly interfering with the people currently playing on it).
Can’t help but notice it’s sold out right now. Won’t have the funds to pay for one for at least a few weeks anyway though so perhaps it’ll be back in stock by then. This Canadian joystick website pleases me greatly.
Yeah, it’s not often that they have that stuff in stock. From what I remember, on those sticks that are sold out, they only receive a certain number for pre-order. So check back every once in a while and it’ll probably say they have “X” amount of sticks. You’ll make a pre-order on the stick and receive a couple weeks later.
I really couldn’t care less which colour/print I get, any 360/ps3 compatible stick is good enough for me. Hopefully I can get my hands on at least one of them. Now that I know about this site, not wanting to pay for eightarc. What games are going to be played likely at the thing tommorrow?
How long have you been playing fighters flubsy?
Chao how many guys do you expect to show?
Eh, if smash bros counts I got melee when I was around 10, so about 9 years. Personally I don’t really count smash bros. Played other fighters off and on since then, SC2/SC3/SC4(I’m a big fan of the soul series), BBCT when it came out; never really got really serious bout any of them though, just liked the genre. Got really into MvC3 for awhile though, and been playing fucktons of fighters since it came out. Even more so since Ultimate came out.
Flubsy: Most likely SFxT since it’s the new cool thing these days. Most of us are just Capcom-whores I’m one of those frowned upon 09ers thanks to SFIV.
Ric: No idea, don’t expect a large turnout since it’s pretty short notice.
I’m starting to feel like I should maybe feel ashamed that I’ve never played SFIV
haha nah man dont worry most people got into the community through SFIV. I quit a year ago and recently again after chao beat my ass in SFXT tonight haha. You play KOF13 you said, who do you main.
Marginal was an understatement as far as my kof xp goes, but I was playing Athena/Kula/King
Oh nice man, I always wanted to get into KOF13 but the online was terrible and no one played it locally. I only play SF4, I never had much skill for MVC3,MK9 or other fighters…so yeah im linear lol.
Instead of worrying about who you are better than or not better than (in week one of release, no less), you should be worrying about setting your own personal goals and being the best that you can be. I think when it comes to fighting games, you are focusing on the wrong things.
It’s a new game, so it’s a fresh slate. Like any other game, some fundamentals transfer over from other games. But until you actually put the time and work in, you shouldn’t realistically expect to be better than everyone, even locally, just because you were good at another game. It’s the same stuff you said when SF4 was new and you hated the game because it wasn’t like hdr and you weren’t good at it yet. Then suddenly, once you did get good, the game was great.
Just play the game for a month without posting about it every single day. Maybe you’ll enjoy it more.
Well when I played HDR I was only a good player online so I didn’t have any tournament matches to verify my skill as being legitimate in a tournament setting. Granted I was playing and beating HDR players online who did place high in majors, but I still didn’t have enough physical evidence in the form of tournament wins to think much of it. SF4 was different though because in my very 1st tournament locally I got 3rd place only after a few days worth of practice. I guess in a lot of ways it was the 1st time I was able to get some tangible evidence that I was indeed a good player. I was able to ascend the ranks fairly quickly when it came to SF4, and when I finally went out of sask to fight regional players in ab and manitoba I saw for myself that I had some natural pull in SF4. It was easy to get motivated in SF4 because I was naturally good at the game and winning a lot as a result. I remember going to edmonton and calgary the 1st time thinking how awesome it was that I was able to extend the same dominate win streak I had in sask to these other cities…it was a ego boaster for sure and it made me want to improve even further.
I think the consequences of winning so much eventually made me a bit spoiled in that regard. I always expected to win and assumed that my natural ability in HDR and SF4 would make me inherently good in any SF/fighter that played under a similar engine. This kind of expectation is probably whats making me so stressed about SFXT right now…its the 1st time since probably my days before HDR that im not naturally good at a game. Im not used to losing so much and so consistently especially when im really grinding hard to win. The selling point in HDR and SF4 for me is the fact that victory was easily attainable and that it was a very organic process. I just played by instinct and that alone was enough to let me win, however in SFXT this isnt the case and its the reason why im starting to hate it for.
I dont have a natural pull in this game like I do in SF4 or HDR and I cant win just by raw natural ability like in those games. The point of competition for me is to win and I only have fun if im winning. If I dont win then it just becomes a stressful and tense ordeal…so whats the point of playing and If im only going to lose. I can barely get my BP to the 500 range and everyone else on my friends list is already at 1k…chao was like at 900+ I think. I suppose I could just accept my new position in the player tier list but after 3 years of being one of the best guys here I cant accept being the bottom of the barrel. If I’m not the best or number 1 then I don’t care…I expected to come into this game wining the way I did in SF4 and so far ive lost 90% of all my matches. I hate losing and unless I win almost all the time then my interest and incentive to continue playing becomes a mute point, I only enjoy myself if the victory is a overwhelming possibility for me.
Its a shame since this game is going to be very popular but I guess you gotta know your limits sometimes. Clearly I cant get my head around this game and the ass rape I got from chao tonight proved I got no business in this SFXT…so fuck you SFXT lol.
Edit: A month is toooo long. I have to win right away or in a relatively appropriate short frame of time. Since that isn’t possible with this game then fuck it lol.
