Sad to hear that Sim isnt gonna be your main. i love watching your Sim play in SF4
I’m not surprised sim wouldn’t be that good in this game. I remember wolfkrone telling me that this game is heavily footsie based and that zoning took a serious backseat. I suppose sims playstyle is heavily compromised as a result, or maybe something else is wrong with him. Is he like too slow or do shit damage?
I was thinking of picking up poison since she kind of reminds me of fei a bit. Basically I need a character with strong normals, a mid screen special and a good dp.
welcome back ricardo.
I tossed up a challenge roughly a week ago. I never recieved an answer for said challenge. If a week is too soon for you, we could do it at the matrix in Regina when Saskgamers has their tournament next month. I think it could be fun, and we could set it up as an exhibition match if we don’t have enough people to run brackets. If the money is too much, name your terms.
With that said, Docmedical. We’ll definitely have enough for some sort of games at a tourney, even if we don’t have the numbers for brackets we could always do casuals or some challenge matches. Norman probably knows the most about fighting games in this city, and the people who play them. I think it would be a good idea to TRY and get some sort of brackets going. We haven’t tried that since we did it at the matrix and it fell apart. That was vanilla 4 time? correct me if i’m wrong. I think with them having it at matrix it helps us a lot on equipment and space as well.
SO. IF you are from saskatoon and would come to this tournament please post and let us know. We don’t have a clue without any of you speaking up. Would you come, and if so, what games would you play, how much $$$$ would you be willing to pay for venue costs, etc. I think Docmedical could probably answer more on the prices of their tourneys and information associated with that.
I saw the the posted challenge as well as the few posted on my fb wall ha.
I don’t know yet, if fei was in the game then sure np but I have no clue who I’m gonna main or if I’ll even play the game seriously. This might be a mk9 situation for all I know so I’ll need a week with the game to know.
Right now outside poison I have no clue who else plays like fei. Every character has a style that is completely foreign to me so I don’t know how viable I’ll be in this game. Im also disappointed that law plays nothing like fei and he was the only other character I considered. It’s a wait and see for now…
Well, I’ve got the long wait now till midnight to get SFxT and ME3.
I’d wait till you play the game to decide, Ric. From all the streams and vids I’ve seen, SFxT is a whole different ball game to what SSF4 was. Personally I’m interested in Hugo (I play mainly graplers), but also the Tekken side looks sick with characters like Orge. But who knows, with the different mechanics I could end liking a completely different type of character.
Also, Vega’s alt costume looks SO bad add I might have to pick him up in this game.
Ha well I’m excited in the new game mechanics but I just don’t want to learn a new character. I’ll be behind the good players who already have their previous mains included so it’s a bit unfair for me to have to learn both the new mechanics and a new character. Also this games roster feels really poorly conceived IMO and some of the selections are very confusing.
I don’t get why abel and juri are included considering they aren’t even popular or that dynamic to begin with. Why do we have rog and vega when we already have bison and sagat…we don’t need the entire shadowloo cast present just 2 is fine. Those slots could have gone to more interesting characters like fei,and I’m scratching my head as to why we have both gief and hugo…like 1 grappler is good we dont need repeat styles.
It’s like capcom didn’t even put any thought into the roster and just chose characters by random.
Well either way you’d have to learn a new character, as you need a second.
But Capcom’s decision making regarding character selection never really make sense. Maybe the reason revolves around the story they created for the game. Generally speaking, if you chose any character from SF II’ you’d be safe. Anything from Super Turbo and on it’s a crap shoot as to whether they’ll be involved.
Regardless, people are saying that Poison plays the way Fei did, with the Rekka’s and what not.
Plus there’s the DLC characters coming as well, so at some point in time they may add even more characters.
I hate how capcom always feel obligated to include the world warriors cast in every single cross over!
I hope fei is DLC otherwise this game will have a VERY short spam with me. Oh is the midnight launch for sfxt too?
The center location called me telling me about the midnight release for me3 but they didn’t mention sfxt so I assumed there wasnt any.
Not sure about EB games, but I’m going to Hi Tech and they posted this on their FB page:
"Hi Tech Gametraders
New Releases for March 6
MLB 2K12, MLB 12 The Show, Street Fighter X Tekken, oh yeah and MASS EFFECT 3!
3 of our locations will be doing midnight release for Mass Effect 3 (and maybe those other games too, I mean why not if we’re already open right?). 20th Street will not be providing midnight release, but Acadia, Grosvenor and Willowgrove will all be open at midnight for your Mass Effect 3 needs. Remember to phone down to one of these locations if you want a special edition bundle. Limited quantities, so reserve yours soon!"
Don’t really understand the need to have Fei in the game in order for you to take it seriously. Even if he was in this game, he would play differently than any past version (SF4 Fei plays different than ST Fei anyway!).
Just learn two new characters like everyone else and have fun with the game. It’ll be an advantage to learn new characters anyway. Then you aren’t constantly hung up on a certain move not working like an older game, or whatever.
Damn I should have preordered at HT:(
Looks like I’ll have to just grab me3 and finish up the me2 dlc stuff tonight…it’s gonna be a long night ha.
Infil: I think sfxt fei would have played similar to his sf4 incarnation just like how a lot of the sf guys do in sfxt. Plus I’m used to his meta game since the time of sf2. I would need someone similar enough in style to consider maining sfxt, I’ll experiment for a bit though.
On a unrelated note I hate superstore…I was so close to getting a copy just now before some asshole boyscout employee was all like"sorry we can’t sell it or else we’ll get a 20K fine". Some men just wanna watch the world burn it seems…
dude, you’ll be fine. from the limited i’ve seen from bison he looks completely different. I’m excited to learn a new system and he might not even be my main. Just cause people mained them in SF4, won’t give them as much of an advantage as you think. Play the game for fun, I know me and merlin are pretty hype about scramble mode and 2 player tag matches, shits gonna be fun. Play a bunch of different characters and find someone you end up liking instead of going into the game with a negative attitude showing a WANT to not like the game. Just give it a chance for what it is, a new fighting game. There are also how many tekken characters. SO. I’m sure you’ll be okay.
Having played some of the SF characters for a few hours the other night, they’re actually nothing like their SF4 counterparts. All combos are different, the links have different timings, the normals have different hitboxes and startup, the jumps are different angles and speeds, the walkspeeds are different, and footsies/zoning/anti-airs will need to be relearned.
They look the same aesthetically but you might find yourself surprised by how different they feel in game. Heck, Ryu doesn’t even want to throw fireballs against half the cast, and his pressure is way different with fireball dash cancels. You’re basically not even playing SF4 Ryu anymore.
Ricky hit the nail on the head. When I first started playing the game it felt like 70% of the SF4 system was alive in this game, and now I’m feeling that it’s way less than that, MAYBE 50%. This game is far more deliberate, zoning characters just aren’t viable. It’s to easy to get around now, some characters even have full screen big damage meterless punishes to someone doing something as simple as tossing a fireball out.
Mashing DPs isn’t great, throws have less range but are harder to tech. Juggles, wall and ground bounce, charge cancelling. If you try and play SFxT like AE, you’re going to lose.
Well I did main yoshi and law back in tekken but I know for a fact they play nothing like their tekken incarnations due to the new mechanics. From the matches Ive seem I assumed they played similar to their SF4 incarnations since so many of the same animations and models were recycled. Would you say the difference is like comparing WW SF2 ryu to SF2T ryu or more like 3s ryu to CVS2 ryu?
Im also wondering why vega is now considered to be one of the best in the game. It still looks like he has no reliable way to deal with pressure so what could have changed to make him potentially top tier now.
Vega? Range. Massive range with the claw.
But once that technology starts to develop I imagine things are going to change.
Since reversals are more risky and less invincible in general, not having a good one is not a big deal, since every character will need to learn to block. Vega’s pokes are hard to deal with right now, so that’s the reason he seems good early. His roll kind of seems CvS2 good, but I don’t think that will last once we become familiar with the system.
I think vega should have his invincible flip kick return, like it maybe made sense to exclude it in SF4 but I dont see any good reason why he shouldn’t have it now. Although now that backdashes are no longer viable I see this really hurting vega’s defensive game so I suspect vega will have issues once people get around his pokes.
Are you guys going to do all the trials first or just instantly training mode. I never bother with the extra stuff and just get right down to trying out different characters and seeing their general mechanics. Right now I wanna test out poison and nina since nina kind of has a safe rekka move at full screen…but unfortunately she has no DP I think.
Wake up tech roll is completely invincible, has no recovery frames and significantly alters your positioning. Defensive options post knockdown shouldn’t be an issue for any character.
Venue cost at the matrix is 10 dollars I believe.
I didn’t take a good look at their console set up, but I think it was a bunch of big flatscreens… They would prolly have lag, right?
SFxT has a midnight release at EB games btw
