Thanks to all the sask players for coming out this weekend. You guys helped make our tournament the big success that it was. I would have liked to talk to more of you guys but hopefully more of you guys come out next time we do another tourney. Also remember that if some of you guys need a place to stay while visiting I’ve got space at my house to house some of you.

A couple reasons not to buy 3SOE

When you get a good connection, its very good. Minor input lag, probably best online experience of any fighting game. Unfortunately a good connection is pretty rare, since the ping indicator is very decieving, theres no way to search for people from your region, and ranked matches just hook you up with some random, not like in SF4 where you can ‘custom search’ to choose someone you know you’ll get a good connection with.

When the connection is bad, its undescribably bad. You are playing a slideshow. People teleport to the other side of you. Every sound effect seem to play twice. Hit confirms roll back to block animations after you’ve input a super. “Playing Underwater” in SF4 with a bad connection sucks, but i’d take it over this any day, especially in a game where 1 hit confirms are probably the most important thing in the game.

No Blind select on ranked match. Are you kidding me? Epic fail. I’m pretty sure I even remember the developer guy saying it would be blind. This sucks. Hope you’re ready to hear ‘DING DING DING DING DING’ while people mash directions on the select screen for 30 seconds before settling on Ken like they were going to all along.

Spectator mode seems to kick in sometimes in lobby and other times not. Not sure why.

Rage mail rolls in on day 1. Its super fun command grabbing people as they get up trying to mash SRK but it doesn’t come out because theres no input shortcuts and a much smaller reversal window.

It’s OK if you’re one of these people who hail 3S as the best thing since sliced bread. Having skipped over 3S, and this being my first experience with it… It’s alright. The balance issues are annoying. Lag is still there. Don’t know what all this praise for GGPO is, but it’s not like it’s playing with someone locally, at least not with my connection, YMMV.
Honestly, it’s just “all right”. That’s it. The people who loved 3S before will love it, those who didn’t still won’t. Of course, with 3S you have to deal with extreme elitism online.
So what, am still lost, i know the games fun and unbalanced trust me, just curious about the online.

For me I have a bad connection at the best of times so I’m used to playing underwater in games; but with 3S and it’s netcode it’s just crappy for me.
If you have a decent connection and you can get games with a decent ping, it’s really virtually like the person is sitting beside you playing locally. If it’s a bad connection, it’s a real big nightmare (although, like I said, I have a bad connection so I might be in a minority here).
Definitely playable though! For 15$ I feel it’s good enough. If you’re HARDCORE frame counting, however, then you might feel differently. But if you have lots of friends and that on XBL you can play with, I find that generally the matches are smooth and fun. Seems when I look for matches I get paired with people who must be in Japan or something because it’s horribly laggy and the connections really suck.
tl;dr - if you’re a casual player it’s good. If you’re a hardcore player it’s playable, and if you’re an EVO-level player it’s meh.
I honestly think itd be the opposite.
The casual player will hate this game if they go online and find someone good. People complain about SSF4 balance… Honestly though despite what everyone likes to say the low tiers arnt all 10/0.
Hardcore fans gotta be happy, there able to play the game more easily and even online with decent connections if your at least somewhat close by.
Evo players gotta love it man, the game it seems pretty similar to the source material, they have online thats actually playable compared to the others. Its one a next gen console so at tournaments the game can actually be more accessible eve if its just casuals.
Gonna download it today, get use to the game again, hop online try to X-Copy some people but due to the fact i picked that super and that character i’ll probably lose but hey! its 3rd strike! 12 fo life.
The online functions are lacking and the lag is very polarizing but for the most part it’s awesome that the game is out again.
I get a new modem this wednesday, so my net should be fixed back then.

This is Capcom we are talking about! Clearly all these luxuries you seek will be in the new “Ulitmate Thirdstrike Arcade Edition” that should see a release in another month or two.
