fight! fight! fight!
This is gonna be playground rules! Seriously Ric, I was fine with everything in that post until you started attacking Allison.
Saskatoon is so funny.
when it comes to this town I am the best SSF4 player bar none. Since people will want to improve there game and get better they will have to fight agaisnt the best and there is nowhere else to find that but at HTA agaisnt me
^ quoted that because if one of your ‘main draws’ is ‘im the best street fighter player’ then this is a bad idea. instant red flag in the business world if anything even related to ‘your street fighter skill’ is what you feel is necessary to mention
not to just be a hater, im not actually from saskatchewan, just letting you know what sort of message you’re actually conveying. its not good, i would leave marketing to someone else
your website does not list a price for membership
The Content
What you are writing down is wonderful.
Making a stronger, better organized scene is great.
Increasing the number of participating players is great.
Having a consistent venue is great.
However, this is merely the content. The text, if you will.
Without backstory, without understanding the context and subtext of your post, essentially, I would be behind you 110%.
**
The reality, though, is that you are a shitty person and a liar.
**
We don’t need to consolidate the members in one place. They already are consolidated. The reality is that your own actions have separated you from the group.
“The 6 biggest games”?
Sorry Ricardo, the entire pseudo-serious Saskatoon BBCS community is essentially consolidated in me and Evan, and I get in about a hundred matches monthly with that guy. For free.
Sengoku Basara X is a way bigger game here than Tekken 6. If you live here, you know what I’m talking about.
The cash entries are ridiculous. 25 for such a small scale, poor tournament? 10 for ranbats? With such small fated turnouts, thats just a huge arbitrary moneysink. Just watch half the pot go to Hitech as maintenance fees for putting a few hours of work on laggy screens.
Unexpected cancellations? Well, I hate to break it to you, but for the last months there have been none I am aware of, there have only been unexpected venue transfers to Evan’s house. I can understand not wanting to go to those, the turnout isn’t as good and the space hasn’t been as good. The option, for each person, however, was there. I, for one, went to every single one of them since my appearance on the scene.
The scene is united without you. The scene is happy without you.
The scene plays the games that people play without you.
In a community this small, we don’t need ranbats to tell us who is bad- we know.
We don’t need to pay to use venues worse than people’s apartments and houses.
Plans are in the works to host our own tournament.
We don’t need you, and we don’t need HTA.
I would be crying too, if I got booted out of the group for being a shitty person.
P to the S: I forget why I blocked you on MSN, but you’re unblocked now so that you have a chance to justify your disgustingly juvenile actions to me.
Don’t think I’ll believe you, though. You haven’t earned that privilege.
im sure you’d get a much better response for your efforts if you werent such a douche about it
im not from sask either, have never met any of the people you’re putting these allegations against and im offended by your post
protip: if you want to grow your scene(especially a small one) - ostracizing what would appear to be the majority of your playerbase is not a good start
On a unrelated note and may come as Ric bashing but Ric fix your internet as well. I can’t even play you online seriously because there’s a ton of input delays/lag but I can play against Thoughtbird Eva without a single issue.
I’ll only show up if the pot goes towards funding us going to the Overdrive afterwards to bang hoodrat ndns in the sleazy motel next door that used to be the Hojo.
Nah. The pot goes to Bob. And like. Winner might get a game or an action figure? or something? Hard to say. Website/posts don’t talk about the pot.
Merlin, you’re such a sleeze. lol
:-p
Merlin, quit being a sleaze bag, and make a rap about how Winnipeg has the best tournaments around (Before Canada Cup 2010 of course, DAMN YOU CALGARY!!!).
Saskatoon always brings the lolz.
also, agree with merlin.
more ndns
also, just thought i’d mention that its not just ric running the thing, so don’t put the other 4 people in with him. you may not like the dude, but hey, maybe you might like the other 3? and hitech runs a business, they’re gonna wanna make money too, and i doubt it’d be a “endless moneypit.” as well, EVEN I, can afford 35 bucks.
Hehehe… I’m not arguing with you. But like… you obviously never met Bob.
lol!!
Saskatchewan thread on fire again lol
I also agree with Merlin as long as they are large breasted
I can’t really comment on your guys scene but I do think the price is a bit steep to be honest. It would be hard to get NEW ppl to front $35 to come get bent over weekly.
I commend Rik for trying nonetheless and it would be alot of work trying to get this off the ground with your scene’s current state.
It seems like ppl from both sides say they want to end the drama but still fuel the fire. Just leave it alone if it is such a problem. You do you, let other people do them.
Winnipeg’s pizza is fray
I have a good connection with everyone else from Ed for the most part. We might just need to make a smaller room or something, let’s go for a 1 on 1 sometime to see if we can get a clear connection.
The price point might be adjusted, we still have a month away from the grand opening tourny so a lot can change. Speaking of which i agree on the other points too norman. To be honest I didnt even read the comments after my post since I just dont really care lol. Im just simply stating the facts behind why I wanted to create this new commnunity and the flaws of the old community, anyhow I hope you regina boys come down for the grand opening tourny:tup:
Yo, next time I’m in Regina, I’ll try the pizza, go to Brandon, have a nasty shit too, and then call your pizza FRAAAAAAY
Get some coffee …
During a random check up on the Toon Town Fights forums, I came across this thread and decided to read it because I was curious about the current situation of things. I’ve always remained pretty neutral about the whole Rik vs. the rest of the “original scene” debacle, but after reading Rik’s latest post, there are a few things that I would like to speak up about.
When I first saw this I thought, “Wow! Rik’s really making an attempt to change his attitude. Good stuff!” I continued reading posts and started to see that you are making amends with others, such as Evan. I was getting pretty excited about this whole High Tech Arcade.
Now, I don’t know if something happened behind the scenes between you and the others prior to your latest post, but how you decided to approach this was just plain stupid. I don’t know how or why you decided to fabricate such an outrageous and blatant attack on Allison. Allison and Dustin have been nothing but great hosts and you should be thankful that they allowed us to gather weekly at their place. Without them, we would’ve most likely been playing out of the tiny room in your basement. I attended a majority of the events and never have they been cancelled because of one of the above listed reasons. There were good reasons behind the odd time that an event was cancelled (people do have lives outside of Street Fighter).
It is quite apparent that there are issues between you and Allison, but this is definately not the way to handle it. You really should keep your personal life and business life separate.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Fix your attitude. There’s no arguement that you were the best player, but you need to realize that even the “best” need to have good sportsmanship. When it comes to competition, it’s natural that everyone wants to be the best player, but when it becomes all you obsess about, you know that something needs to change. If our little group got sick of your attitude, chances are others will too (except maybe for the other hardcore Street Fighter players).
Believe it or not, but this isn’t completely a “Bash Rik” post and I would like to provide some constructive feedback about this High Tech Arcade, as I believe that it is a good idea and it would personally provide me some motivation to continue playing.
It sounds like Hi Tech is investing a fair amount of money and time into this new setup. Afterall, Hi Tech is a business and businesses need to make money. However, granted that your claims about the store’s golden location are true, Hi Tech can do much better with the prices. The money from more people and smaller fees can be equal to or greater than fewer people and bigger fees. Also, granted that you do decide to lower the prices, you should also really consider the idea of a monthly, bi-monthly, yearly (whatever) membership.
You are trying to cater to the hardcore players way too much. I’m no economics/demographics expert, but chances are your main draw will not be the existing hardcore players, but the ones who are looking to get into a more competitive environment.
People looking to become competitve won’t be totally enthused with playing some guy who thinks he’s Saskatoon’s Messiah of the Street Fighter. You don’t get better by playing the best all the time. If anything, this probably unmotivates the person because they’re getting stomped all the time. You need to play people of the similar skill levels and gradually work your way up. That is why you need to attract people of all skill levels.
I’ve been writing this for way too long and I’m out of ideas for the moment. I commend those who decided to read the whole thing.
Merlin - Sorry to break the bad news to you, but the Ovedrive is gone (now known as Outlaws). I’m sure we could hook you up with some cheap floozies nonetheless.
Dalton - $35 may not seem like a big cost to you since you’re in Regina. I imagine you won’t be driving up to Saskatoon every week to participate (I could be wrong, I don’t know how you roll). However, for those who want to attend this event on a regular basis, $10 a week will add up.
Norman - I know I shouldn’t be throwing fuel on the fire, but I’ve been writing this post for the past while and I saw your post when I finished writing this. Just something I had to get off my chest
Hey chao, long time I hope eveything is going good. Anyhow I understand you’re points and they are all well know noted. I didn’t make any personal attacks as much as I was just stating the reasons why I wanted a new community and giving specific examples of my issues with the old community. All the examples I listed were not intended in some fashion to incite a response or reaction. If that was my intention I would have given names and more importantly I would have given exact a time and date where these things happen. I also would not lie about my issues with the old community, I don’t lie and im not dishonest and I would have nothing to gain by creating fictional points of concern. I was simply giving reasons why the old community failed and why I wanted to move on with the HTA. On that note, the only imput I am taking is from people who actually play the game and have some idea what the games are all about. Any comments from people that do not fit that criteria don’t matter, simple as that.
Now we won’t really know how well the HTA will do untill the grand opening tourny, but Im keeping positive and doing what I can to make it a hit.
I’m doing just dandy. Not playing a whole lot of Street Fighter, but these new updates and this whole new HTA idea is seriously making me reconsider. It’s good to see that you took initiative with this new community. I do agree that the old/current community wasn’t going anywhere particularly fast and that there were some bad things about it, but making up examples is not a very productive use of time.
As much as I would like to believe that you are not making any personal attacks, but just for the hell of it, humor me and tell me who you were referring to when you made this statement.
Please don’t make me think less of you and brush this off as if it’s nothing. These are some pretty harsh allegations you are making. As Russel Peters would put it, “Be a man!”
I do wish you the best of luck with this whole idea, but you truly need to make some personal changes as well as some business changes if you want this to be successful. When this whole thing gets fired up, I’ll try to stop in once in a while, though my schedule isn’t as free as it was when I was on my internship.
