Im not really owning the scene, its going to take a lot of work from all different directions to make this thing work. Im just getting the info out and helping organize things, nothing more and nothing less.
Rik, just letting you know, ONE person cannot really do what you wanna do. Remember that you need to form a team of willing people to help you.
True.
From what I remember in Winnipeg it was matt jin nyo shane and kang do that were running the scene. I’d bet the smash scene had their own rep for brawl.
Edmonton is no different, Stevecakes, Pizzle, myself, jinrai and vesper just to name a few do our part to do things for edmonton.
Montreal prolly has something along the same lines. You’ll get there Rick!
Yeah I think the biggest reason why things will work out this time is due to the fact that I have people helping me this time. Aside from myself I have the staff at hi-tech and a few local players that are actually doing things on there end to make sure this all works out.
P.S.
Something else to report, the events are planned as bi-weekly for now. If he numbers are high and enough interest it shown it will be a weekly event so it will really depend on us to make sure to keep the numbers strong and consistent.
Hey dudes, while development on the hi-tech arcade is still in production I do want to make another announcment. I spoke to thoughtbird eva (evan) and he informed me of a competitive fighting community is he getting off the ground too. He will be hosting it at his place and will have up to 4 games if im not mistaken, I didnt talk to him long enough to get all the details but I do know he will be contributing to the scene’s growth as well. I believe this is a progression of the small scene that was carried out at the original host’s place, so I guess it can be referred to as "toon town fighters"or the original scene in town.
The one thing I do want to stress is that this isnt a seperate scene or a case of competing communities. I think its best to think of them as extensions to one another and as compliments. Some games that are not festured at the hi-tech arcade will be hosted at his place and vice versa. Each location with have there own benefit and advantages, and essentially it will offer diversity and coverage on a lot of different games and accomodate a wide range of players taste.
From what else I was able to gather, he is also planning on a website with a very organized and cordinated structure as well. There wont be a struggle over which location is the "flagship"community because both are one in the same and working towards the same goal of getting the sask scene up and going. On that note, he will also be throwing tournaments and casual/ranking events as well if im not mistaken. All in all we can look forward to a very well rounded scene, a true homage to the old school arcade days.
WIth all these community changes I would like to send a personal thanks to the host of the old scene and the administator of the old community forum. Thanks dustin for letting us crash this thing at your place and for sharing your set-up’s,space and weekends which made this whole thing a reality. Thanks oz for making the community forum and you’re insight and suggestions on growing the scene. You guys really did help in making something out of literally nothing so I will always appreciate that and I hope to see you guys out there.Even though we have a new home and community site, we will be using this thread and the toon town fights forum as placeholders for info and announcments untill the other sites are finished.
I never said half those things… although the enthusiasm is appreciated. The new site thing with rankings and the like is a terrible idea though. Eldon and Jonas were right when they argued against the initial ranking system. Best not have it at all. We should just stick with the forum we already have, we can easily unban you if you promise to not act like an elitist prick. Which you are most likely capably of.
Well im moving ahead with the arcade but since you are the new host and organizer I think it would be best to double our efforts to make this community really shine. I know you have some plans and we didnt get a chance to talk at length over things, but I think what I suggested would be good and benefit the scene as a whole. Im expecting a call this week from hi-tech so ill give you a call afterwards so that we can talk about things on our end.
P.S.
I dotn care about the old forum since im getting a new website anyways so you can do what you want with it.
i’ll probably show up to both, what day do you think you would have the hi tech things on?
i just miss actually playing SF4
It will be on friday’s, 5-10pm but there is a chance it could be extended to after store hours on occasion. Il bel getting a call this week to let me know when this whole thing will be starting, Ill see ya there:tup:

This is the 5 vs 5 (sask vs winnipeg) at TST this year, I got beat out by rog but I at least made it a very close fight:sweat:
I got a new update and a request from the guys who have seen this thread. First off, the site is almost compelte and should be up in a day or 2. Secondly, the events are planned as bi-weekly events unless attendance is proven high. I strongly encourage people who are into this to come out in strong numbers and make you’re voices heard on this thread. That way I can report back to the mangers and let them know the exact number of people who will be coming, if they see a lot of interest they will accomodate us with a weekly deal.
Alright guys sorry for the slow flow on info, but I finally have some new stuff to report. Introducting the new official community site Welcome to the Hi Tech Arcade. its still being devloped but its up and running and will be completed more and more everyday. I will be speaking to the heads of hi-tech next week and finalizing all the details such as price, dates and prizes!
After that meeting ill do a final post and report all the details regarding the scene, cheers untill then.
P.S.
This thread will soon be replaced, thanks for the good times!
Welcome to the Hi Tech Arcade.
It’s finally here, saskatoon’s new and improved gaming community. Everything is finalized and all the details have been worked out so now ill tell you guys what the new community has to offer:
7 HDTV’s
7 Set-Up’s
5 Titles Including Super Street Fighter 4,Super Smash Brothers Brawl,Soul Calibur 4,Blaze Blue CS,Tekken 6
The grand opening tournament will be held on november 6-7.It will be a weekend event with doubles on saturday and singles on sunday. The website is building content as we speak, but it is fully functional and the forum is up and running.
The HTA will host weekly casuals every friday from 5-10pm, with monthly ranking matches at the same time and day. Strong numbers is key in this situation, the more people the better so be sure to spread the news around.
Entry fee into the grand opening tournament will be 25$, and a membership is required to enter the HTA. 10$ will be the cost to enter the HTA weekly for casuals and ranking matches. The community will not begin untill after the grand opening tournament, it should also be noted the HTA will include other genre’s in addition to just fighters.
On staff for this new scene is John, brent,Umir, becca and myself. This is a group effort however so be sure to ask any of us for more questions regarding the HTA, thanks everyone and I’ll see you guys there!
I also wanted to address something else while we are on this topic, mainly the concerns and issues some people could possibly have with the price points. First off, we have to remember that the venue we are using is located in one of the most popular gaming outlets in the city and straight accross from one of the most popular malls in the city. The amount of exposure and traffic of potential players we are recieving is literally 100X’s greater then anything we could hope to have from a small apartment or someone’s house.
In last years SF4 tourny, we attracted over 20 players and that was just in a single tourny. To this day that has been the largest gathering of players the city has ever had and with this new community we will be hosting 5 of the most popular titles in the genre. There simply is no comparison between the amount of players and exposure the community can get by using hi-tech as opposed to someone’s small apartment or house. We also have to remember that we are getting 7 HDTV’s with a large enough space that over 30 people can all be housed comfortably, we dont have to worry about people sitting on the ground or akward set-up’s in uncomfortable positions.
Furthermore, this community is being run by gamers for gamers. It will be organized with a website that will track rankings and give a actual incentive to improve and continue showing up from week to week,in other words there is a point in this community. I personally will be helping organize each gathering so we will all have someone who actually plays the games and knows the games to be running the show and not some glorified mic piece. We can also be rest assured the venue is always consistent and like I have said before, we dont have to rely on anyone’s schedule which also means no more unexpected cancelations. We no longer have to deal with a sudden bail because someone had to get there drinking fix that night or decided it was time to hook up with someone they met at the bar that night. I say this because it has happen several times in the past already which is why hosting the community somewhere public and neutrel is the best option.
Aside from mangement compotency, we also have brand reconition and a professional website and forum with company sponsorship. Having endorsment and advertisment from a popular gaming outlet can go a long way in the communities growth and the possibilities of where the community can aim towards were simply not a reality for a community housed somewhere small and obscured. Remembrer, over 20 people showed up for just a single tournmanet with one game so just imagine the numbers when we have 5 games and the promise of a weekly community. We have never been able to approach that number since that intial tournament with the old community, infact not even close.
In conclusion, yes it will cost money but look at all the benefits and bigger picture. There just simply is nothing else that can compare with what the HTA has to offer. Now this isnt to say that I am agaisnt anyone running casuals at there place or trying there own communities, its a free country and everyone is entittled to do what they want but If I was to be devastingly honest it would just be a useless gesture. For starters, SSF4 is no doubt the most popular fighter in the genre right now and will probably be the biggest attraction for the community. People will want competition and to have competition you need to have good players. In paritcular you want to be put up agaisnt the best and when it comes to this town I am the best SSF4 player bar none. Since people will want to improve there game and get better they will have to fight agaisnt the best and there is nowhere else to find that but at HTA agaisnt me. I will be what people will want to fight agaisnt to test themselvs, to be the man you got to beat the man essentially.Secondly, HTA will be the featured community in the city regardless if people like it or not. We have the money, the venue, the exposure and the staff that no one else can compete with. People will be vastly more aware of HTA’s presence then anything housed elsewhere and for good reason. Best of all, people will also respond well to the fact that a actual player is leading the events which in turn will help HTA’s credibility. We will not be having non-gamers organize events or people with no business in the community having any leadership positions like we have in the past…its quite silly to have paris hilton have keys to the white house which is exactly what happen with the old scene.
WIth all that said there are only 2 options from here on out, you can either stay in some isolated community with small numbers that will never mean anything or go anwyhere or you can chip in some money and help towards building a real community that will actually have some direction and motive…I think we all know the correct choice so I’ll see you all there:tup:
Remember how badly run last years tournament was? That was something we all agreed we didn’t want to see again. And honestly HTA doesn’t really offer anything but really shitty TV’s with 40ms lag. Perhaps if this money we all paid to come was invested in buying 2ms widescreen moniters, then we might think our money is going somewhere and not supporting Bob’s neverending scheme for more money. Something to consider.
Yeah we had issues last year, that’s why we are getting a lot more organized this time around. The overwhealming benefits to this new scene have been stated beforehand so I won’t repeat them, but the latency issue is being looked into and there could be some slight alteratons to the price point. I should also remind everyone that this is a 360 event only, we are looking into getting converters however for the PS3 folks out there.
So, since I hosted gatherings at my place for almost the last year, /consistently/, I feel pretty offended by this post. It’s slander, and it’s lies.
I NEVER canceled an event because I was drinking. In fact, I /never/ canceled an event PERIOD, except for like… twice when we were out of town for medical appointments for Dustin’s heart problem. I also NEVER canceled because I needed to hook up with someone I just met at a bar. Actually, to be clear, I’ve never hooked up with someone I just met at a bar. I don’t even go to bars. I should have though, might have helped me erase you off of me.
So, to review. We never canceled an event here. What you say happened, never happened. Basically I think you wrote this just to attack me, again. And like seriously, child. Grow up. I constantly ignore your attacks on me – on forums, to my friends. But jesus christ I’m getting sick of it. So here is the reaction you’re craving. Leave me alone!
PS
I like the part where you call me a glorified mic piece. I’ve heard that before, from you of course. WTG.
That is a complete lie.
