look if what i posted was drama filled eh i didnt mean it. jim kim i dont know you but your right. Am just here to play and compete. lets keep it that way. if there is drama it should be two rival players shit talking lol.
dude if rik is such a mad guy and all this shit and no one likes him just leave him be, you don’t make yourself look any better by putting him down every chance you get.
He has some serious problems, but its not hard to ignore and not invite people to casual meetups and tournaments.
if he wants to start his own little scene, let him, if he doesn’t go anywheres with it, he’ll quickly realize that its him not everyone else that is the real problem.
hey if you play bb you should try and make it out for our next bb tournament here in edmonton
The way I see it there really isnt a"scene"to begin with. I mean granted there are players but nothing is organized, cordinated and for the most part everything is considerably chaotic and very "spur"of the momment as far as structure and format is concerned. Not to mention the venue that is avaible for this “scene” is limited in space and with very little set-up’s…and the set-up’s that are avaible are not really all that great. After coming back from winnipeg and edmonton I had a chance to see what a real scene looks like and it inspired me to do something similar here in saskatoon.
There is no division because the scene im planning to create is not meant as a replacment or substitute, its jthere for the sole purpose of playing fighters at a competitive fighter. If people want to still do private gatherings then they are more then welcome to, but if they want to come to something more official and professional then that option is there for them as well.
You sure thought it was a scene when your mom still let you come to these gatherings.
Also you are right Shiro, I am being quite immature, so I will cease these stupid posts and let Rik have his very own thread back. He can continue to look like a complete fool and inevitably be banned for a third time. I’m out.
You guys really have to put aside this gaming drama and just play. Everyone has their faults and no one is perfect. So put everything in the fucking past and play some games. If someone from that division of the scene doesn’t show, then that’s your choice. But don’t try to stop others from going.
People of Saskatoon, give the tournament a chance, and if it’s the same as you first saw it, then do what you please. Just don’t be like “He’s mad salty cuz of this” or “He/she is a douchebag”, that type of attitude only makes shit worse.
I’m sure Winnipeg would love to come up to this, but we’d need a bit more time and stuff. September is usually a bad spot since school starts for most of the players here.
Saskatchewan is FRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Even Rik!
I’m trying to set something up for november or feb. So you guys can kick our asses sometime then.
school pretty much rapes all tournaments… unless your in the usa, major tournaments out of the ass =(
sorry i never made tst. and double sorry i didnt speak to you much at evo. had lots on the mind =p
Umm I can honestly say I have no clue about the mom thing, I must have missed something cause im pretty sure my mom did not have a thing to do with anything lol. Anyhow the only one looking like a fool is you, no one has caused any drama for the longest time with the exception of you since you continue to come at me with every post you make for some reason. If you dont have any intention on coming then dont, if you want to then come…its as simple as that. If you want to do private gatherings you can, there is no law saying your not allowed lol.
The amount of games I have plan to host would not work in such a small venue, and I want to get organized with rankins,a official website and a lot of other stuff so I had to take intiative. If it works out then good, and if not then ill try again.
Jim: Well we will be hosting more tournies so im sure those will work out better, hopefully you guys can show to this grand opening tourny as I think it will be a pretty good time.
Shiro: Thanks dude, dont worry there really isnt that much drama…its been pretty much over for like the last 4 months. Anyhow im pretty excited for this grand opening, I hope it goes well.
rik, if you are both looking like fools. if he is agreeing to no longer take shots at you, then you in turn shouldn’t do it yourself. Just edit your post and get that hate shit out of here.
Who gives a fuck who made what scene and all that bs. You both should settle your beef offline in a mature way. Instead of making your city look like a bunch of emo drama queens and taking shots at each other…
hey rick if you can convince a few other edmonton guys to go i would come to it, im just to lazy to drive hahah
lol dont be lazy fool!, I think some dudes from the ed scene said they might come by but they are waiting on the exact date before they commit. Ill be talking to the store sometime next week and ill get a date then, but im crossing my fingers its mid sep. You should come down for sure man, and so should you steve!
In case anyone thought my post was all drama filled it wasint am just here to play games like Jim kim said. As for what you said shiro. Ya mabey i will i have family up there i havent seen in a while. could kill 2 birds with one stone.
Nah don’t worry man the drama is over, and we are all moving on. However I do want to comment on what the intention of this new scene is and what my motive is so that everyone is clear on what im trying to do. I’ve had the idea of a full living and breathing scene for years. For one reason or another, it never worked out and the city was always left with nothing to show for it’s fighting community. In the last year, the city came as close as it ever has to a “realized” scene mainly because of the fact that we had a secured venue and even a community forum…not to mention a resurgence in the fighting genre lol.
It was a great step forward but there were issues that prevented it from progressing to that “next level”. While the venue was avaible, its a tiny space with limited mobility and set-up’s. Additionally, while hosting at a players house is not a bad idea between a small group of friends…it isn’t practical or adequate for a large gaming community especially when you consider the fact that your forced to rely heavily on that persons avaibility…which in itself is quite unfair and a bit silly lol.It was a decent filler, but it wasn’t what the city needed to have a fully “realized” scene. On top of that, it wasn’t organized or coordinated on any level and most gatherings just became trivial"casuals"that never went towards anything. The players were not improving and there was no expansion or progression…in a way it was almost like having nothing at all. There was no point to anything and it was just aimless with no motive or intentions…in other words it was going nowhere very fast and is hardly what anyone could call a"scene".
Even without all the drama, that venue was at best a placeholder until something bigger and better came along. With this new scene, Ill be able to finally run the community I always dreamed this city could have. This isn’t some revenge plot or attempt to make a point to anyone, its simply realizing a ambition Ive had for the last several years. I’m willing to work hard to make this work and I realize that every scene is a group effort. However that effort needs to come from people who play the games, care about the games and will actually go out of there way to make the scene a priority. We dont need glorified mic pieces running the show, we need people who actually play the games and who care about a scene calling the shots. Its a pursuit of passion and dedication fueled with a high level of devotion, if you dont have these attributes the scene will go nowhere which is exactly what happened and why the small scene we have is complacent to mediocrity.
I plan to feature several tittles, a professionally created website and a community that is a homage to the arcade days of old. This simply was not a reality for the?scene?we had before, and thusly its time to change our gears and take yet another leap forward and move towards something greater. I am convinced that this will be what the city has always needed, it will take time but I’m positive it can happen and im going to do all I can to make it a reality. We can also be rest assured that this venue will be consistent and reliable and always avaible to the community,we will not be depending on anyone’s schedule which means we will never have to worry about unepected cancellations because someone had a pub crawl that night or because they wanted to take there date back home.
When i came back from Winnipeg I saw how dedicated the guys were over there, even if there existed some differences between the players or some other probing issues they always managed to put the scene first and work through there problems. I sincerely don’t hold any grudges against anyone and this new scene is a open invitation to anyone who shares in this same passion. Its something competitive, something fun and its a great way to bring together people who share in the same hobby…its what the arcade scene was all about and why we all fell in love with gaming to begin with.
In conclusion, this new scene is intended to be ?the?scene of Saskatoon. It will be organized,it will have purpose and it will enact the feel and spirit of a arcade community. Any drama that existed beforehand is laid to rest from this point on. A lot of mistakes were made and unfortunately the problems that arose from these mistakes overwhelmed the community. I can accept and apologize for my hand in creating some of these issues, but ultimately its water under the bridge and this new scene is a new beginning in every sense. Anyhow thats all i have to say on it and this is my stamp of finality to the old scene and my decoration for the new scene. Lets get back to building a community and making this about the games, ciao for now and ill be posting again soon with complete details on the new scene.
Good lucks guys.
Easier said than done buddy.
Do you have a place that you can play for several hours at a time? Several days of the week at a time?
Is the location accessible to the majority?
Do you have a dedicated core of competitve minded players?
What is the living situation of most of your players(living with mom and dad/college student/single parent/40hr-60hr career individual etc.)
How much of your time can you dedicate to this?
How much of your resources can you dedicate to this?
How are you going to handle the situation where the 2 biggest egos, in your community are having a pissing contest with each other?
How are you going to balance your own livelihood(family/job/school/kids/etc) and this?
How are you going to build comradary amongst your players? Avoid the inevitable clique mentality?
Either way you slice its going to be a lot of work, and there is going to be some cost attached to it. But good luck and I wish you and Saskatoon the best of success in your endeavor(s).
Never let drama and personal differences get in the way of a great tournament and thriving scene. Sometimes it even makes for more interesting stories.
Rik, I know nothing about the past or whatever drama you might have with the others and it’s none of my business anyway. All I know is it looks like you’re really interesting in building an active tournament scene in your area and I wish you luck and whoever else plans on doing that.
Thanks guys, I know it’s gonna be a uphill struggle but it will be worth the effort. I got some new info today so here it goes:
-There are 7 HDTV’s avaible with the option of supporting more set-up’s upon request
-The casual/ranking events will occur on a friday
-The space can accomodate over 30 players
-The casual/rankings will be from 5pm-10pm, there is a possibility the hours can be extended past the store hours
-The prizes for tournaments will be set by the owner and managers of the store
-Entry fee will range from 5-9$
-Official name of the community is the"hi-tech arcade"
There are over 10 known players for the SF guys and around the same for the smash guys. As for tekken, soul calibur and BB players I don’t know but Im hoping the grand opening tournament will bring them out. That’s all for now:tup:
I’ve played Embrio (Evo) in person and he is 4 serious! I would hands down say that if you are in Saskatoon and aren’t going to be a part of hi scene then you’re just not serious about getting better.
To get better you have to play with the best and you can’t find better than Embrio when it comes to Street Fighter in Saskatoon.
You never played the rest of us. I will agree that Rik is the best player here, but we have some pretty damn close seconds.
To be honest, I’m not sure what to think about an individual “owning” a scene. Food for thought.
