Sanwa Silent mod with TE sides Cushions

Nice, I’ve seen something like this before – this seems like a great idea though – I want to try mod mine to be silent.

So far I ain’t not looking for any new material yet since I didn’t have any problem with those cushion. If you ever do that let us know what you think. Thanks.

So I recently modded my black iPhone 4 to sport a white screen w/ black home button and piano back glass, and the white digitizer came with this white cushioning…
Here’s the back :):

I thought I could use this to do the Sanwa silent mod “BBB style!” So here goes: First, I’ll be using this Hobbico Circle Cutter (found here: http://www.amazon.com/Hobbico-Circle-Cutter/dp/B00144KWHM). It’s great for cutting the circles for artwork! Real cheap too! Comes with extra blades…oh yeh!

I stab through the cushioning stuff and use the ruler on the cutter to set it to cut a 2.5 cm hole (lil less than 1"). I have a cutting board, but it’s probably not mandatory to have one. Just cut on a hard surface (like a cutting board for veggies…lol)

This stuff cuts like butter! Just spin it around a couple times while holding it down.

It cut so fast I got 8 perfectly clean circles in 2 mins 42 secs. Yeah…I actually timed myself. haha

Next order of business was to cut the inner hole to make it fit. You could skip this part and make the process a lot faster by folding it in half and cutting a triangle to make a diamond-shaped slit. I’m training to become a nurse, so I have to practice my OCD and do it the longer way. Moving the ruler to the smallest size works great for this.

Got my holes cut out. Pretty sweet, eh?

Just place inside and make sure it’s flat to install. Take a gander:

Ready for long night sessions without waking up the rents! A good way to put off my English essay.

Cutting this stuff is kinda fun, so I decided to cut a couple more sets.

Now I know this isn’t any new information, but I was pretty ecstatic to find that I had some similar stuff to try some silent Sanwas. Just thought I’d share how I was able to approach this mod with ease. All credit goes to Bad_Boy_Brazil for starting up this thread and to Mabans for sharing the idea of cheaper silencers, so thank you guys for shedding light on this! I put myself on Maban’s list, so I hope I got on the bandwagon early enough to try his out before the raffles end!

Thanks for viewing and stay healthy.

How do these buttons feel? I imagine placing the foam material inside would make the button have a higher resistance, or feel more floaty. Does this mod work on Seimitsus as well, with no negative effect?

It doesn’t feel too bad at all. I can only see the awkwardness coming in when you slowly press down the button, hold, then release. By doing this, you will feel the resistance and some “floatiness.” However, if you’re tapping the buttons rapidly when you’re pumping out your combos, you probably won’t notice the difference. Only that the sound is considerably quieter! I just tried the mod on my 24mm Seimitsu buttons I use for start & select with similar success. Here’s a couple pics:

On the second pic, you can see the cushion right? Well if you cut the cushion diameter too small, sometimes the plunger’s tabs will lift them up a little so you want to cut them snug. I can’t vouch that these will work as well when used on Seimitsus as the attack buttons, because I don’t have any. I suppose they should. Try it out! In any case, the stuff MarceloAbans is promoting is supposed to be flawless, so be sure to check those out too. I just couldn’t wait, so I looked into BBB’s option which seems to work well for the most part.

If there is a lasting impression I have for you, it’s the fact that I think your playing style will affect how you feel this mod will work for you. If you tap you buttons hard with quick releases like I do, you probably won’t notice. If you’re pressing and letting go of the button (like while doing FADCs when you hold down and buffer the dashes), it might feel a bit clunky. I can guarantee it’ll be quieter though.

Very nice I really like how clean it came out   Thanks for sharing how you did.

I have to try this  Thanks for the nice tip guys

Now the question is what is the best material.

This is glorious, I shall try it the ghetto way with an Xfacto knife and my insincts of circling things. Also, silent buttons maybe an advantage at tourneys since your opponent wont be able to hear you mash dem buttons like normally.

How do you ensure the cushion material is thin and even throughout before you cut it?

Guys, I just figured out how to peel apart two-ply toilet paper and make two (count 'em), two rolls of toilet paper. I’m working on composing the music for the 12 part Youtube documentary tutorial now.

I selflessly work to bring insider info like this to help other fathers who have starving, dirty children because they don’t work and spend their wife’s money on arcade sticks.

Does this work with Seimitsu PS14KN?
where can i find this “cushions” thing as another name in a store? :frowning: im from chile

What material does Sanwa use in their silent buttons? Some place must sell something very similar to it.

It’s like foam rubber. I don’t know how to explain it. I bought a set of the sanwa ones.

Yeah I already made some, they look and feel the same as the sanwa ones.

Any chance you can relay what type of material you used to make the makeshift Sanwa silencers??

I’m not sure what it’s called as I found them in my house and I’m sure I bought them a few years back and some hobby shop, they look like sheets of 2mm spongy dense foam. Pretty much like this

would any one happen to know the actual material for sanwa silencers?? im leaning toward closed cell foam but I bought the wrong size at 2mm… the button wouldnt connect to activate an input LOL #failmoments
