I’m playing Deadpool on my most picked teams right now (Wolverine/Deadpool/Sentinel, Storm/Deadpool/Morrigan, Deadpool/Storm/Sentinel).
Long term I think that aggressive characters are better than defensive characters. Most Capcom games tend to start out defensive, then turn more and more offensive as people get better. Already MvC2 is starting out on the offensive end of the spectrum and nobody even knows how to play yet. The main reason for this is that assists are specifically designed to be less helpful defensively and more for combo extenders, assists to hold you in place on the ground and force you to make 2+ clutch blocks in a row or gimmick assists to set up unblockables.
Combine that with the fact that everyone will die off a low A given appropriate meter and it’s not looking good for a keepaway character long term. How well you do in this game for now depends on how easy it is for you to set up situations where a straight block has a less than 50% chance of working (like how Wolverine has instant overhead, low, go behind, and throw into slide+assist into BBX, or how Sentinel has off any jumpin block situation, high, low, kara throw with all options leading to 100%). I believe this will continue, with your block chances going down as time goes on.
So no, not looking good for keepaway characters like Deadpool. I think Storm is still going to be turtle’s choice since she has more options to get out of trouble and reset the match.

Think deadpool sucks. Wesker is better at keepaway and has 100% combos off f+h juggle. Dormammu and taskmaster are good too. Dormammu one of the best solo xfc chars.
One of the aspects I like about mvc3 in comparisson to 2, is mashing on an assist isnt viable as a “get out of jail free card”, assists take awhile to come out, and Viscant is right about assits being mainly used for combo extensions, rather than a defensve option.
