San Diego Mudd Club Thread

Remember Golden Token only went to 25cents when they started doing the nickel games, it use to be like 30 cents or something… remember you’d get 10 tokens, but marvel was 3 tokens lol. Either way franky makes my point, you have to pay to play either way, and if the place has a chance to be really good, why complain about an extra dollar or quarter. in my opinion id have them switch the food menu or something. Driving to FFA is 6hrs of time/ sticks arent always the best, and you spend at least 35 bucks in gas. calpoly is about 4hrs of time and almost the same amount of gas, nickel is local… but no one really goes, the sticks suck, so on and so forth. Guess what game makes the most money for those venues… i dunno, but i can tell you which doesnt, and thats marvel.

^^^ yeah that

i also agree… as much as id like a ffa style arcade in sd… id rather have entrance fee and 25 cent play then… no entrance fee and 25 cent fee then the arcade goes out of business in a year because these guy listened to and catered to all the players without them catering to him… a business needs money to stay in business you know… so im down to pay entrance fee for the sake of which will probably be the last decent arcade in sd if this one gets all these cabs and what not.

you damn right we want the whole arm, and fuck yes i’m cheap.

but fine…if they’re gonna keep the entrance fee, then the fighting games BETTER be .25.

Been talking to the worker a bit. Seems like we will probably have the entrance fee ( not sure how much yet ), and the games are working to get it down to .25 cents. Im down with that if that entrance fee goes to maintaining the games and pays for electricity etc…

Gaso - I hear dreamcasts are cheap on ebay or other places for like 30$. Or you can just roll by our place and we can corrupt you to the darkside of marvel :badboy:

someone plz post when cvs2 mvc2 3s cabinets are up,
I feel like this is going to be a really good thing.

Listen, the owner isn’t making this arcade to make bank. He has other businesses. You’re telling me that if he doesn’t charge an entrance fee, he would have no other choice but to go out of business? That the $2.00 entrance times however many people show up is gonna keep him BARELY surviving? Ryan had a point. If he has a strong reason why he should have an entrance fee, please let us in on it. Nickel had some free games. That makes sense.

Also, more people will go at random times if there isn’t an entry fee. What if I have an hour to waste? I’m either gonna go to Mudd Club, or be stuck jerkin off in my car.

At this point, we all want a new arcade, and we’re getting one, and we kinda have to abide by his rules. If this fucks up, we are officially screwed. But lets try as hard as we can, yeah??

This IS gonna be a really good thing. REALLY GOOD. When the doors open at the end of this month, regardless of the cost, regardless of the fee, I’m sure we are all going to be playing there.

And im not trying to argue, I just think that we should stick together and try to make it as cheap as we can before he does his grand opening.

I talked to the employee and he said that they’re charging the two dollars so they could keep the equipment fixed. I wouldnt mind paying the $2 fee if it was 25cents and all the joysticks are always working well. And if you guys dont like the entrance fee, just do that buy 1 get one half off VIP card during the grand opening and not pay the entrance fee for the rest of the year.

all i know is that if theres no entrance fee the only person it would benifit is the good players and ill tell you right now that ill use no more than a dollar on none busy days if theres no entrance fee and thats a fact for any good player for 25 cent machines… so sorry… im being honest right now cause hes not going to make any money from me personally from losing on the regular on cvs2… and i for one am not going to be the reason for this arcade going down hill.

ok well just say that hes going to keep the entrance fee, im still not trying to pay 50-75 cents for one game of 3s…

FINAL ROUND: $1 entrance (if at that) and .25 and (MAYBE) .50 for the fighters. otherwise if all else fails, $1.50 and .25c nothing more

Then continue to play at nickel?

You must not know how a business works, Im together with you guys in the fact that we all arent rich, but get real, you think this arcade is going to make its money from you fighting game players? Im pretty sure the pc cafe, and or every other game will make more money than marvel… the guy has been nice enough to listen to your suggestions as far as cabinets, and yes i believe that he needs to make his money back.

Just because he has another business doesnt mean that mudd club doesnt cost. You think he doesnt have to play electric fee,s zoning permits, rent, maitnence, so on and so forth… nickel city use to be a part of a chain, thats why its still open and again you wonder why sticks are shitty? Marvel nor any other fighting game is a money maker… “they could care less about you”. If you think arcades dont take big hits, then you dont realize the history of san diego arcades, thats why we dont have any. No arcade in san diego can afford to stay open. You people can buy boba for $3.00, but will complain about an entrance fee, after begging for a SD based arcade. If you’re happy to hopefully get a decent arcade in SD, then support it, if not then dont support it.

FFA was going to limit marvel to one cab, because it didnt make that much money, you have to figure, the reason why FFA is able to keep there games at a cheap price and have no entrance fee is simple, its a “true” arcade, its been around for awhile, and there player base is absolutely crazy. Regency, not only is it huge, but its focus is on chucky cheese style of gamming. Arcade Infinity, no one plays marvel, there are a few 3s players and cvs players, but its the only bemani japanese style arcade i know of, and the location is pretty nice. Give Mudd club a chance, let them grow a little bit before you try to change the whole approach. If the entrance fee isnt to bad then im all for it, and i bet after he notices people that are dedicated to his business and can at least get the place off the ground prices will drop.

Yep im dropping essays on this topic, im bored and im at work

I pay $3.00 to get in return a delicious strawberry boba. I don’t walk into Tapioca Express, pay a $2.00 entrance fee, and then buy a boba.

Please, just give me one reason why there should be an entrance fee besides to rake in more money! If the Mudd Club had strippers or massage tables or free billiards or ANYTHING like that, I’d have a smile on my face.

Also, its not like we are boycotting the arcade. This is San Diego’s chance to have a very good arcade. No matter what the outcome, it is almost guaranteed that everyone will be going there.

So, of course we are trying our best to make it as cheap as possible. Trust me, I know how generous he has been with buying almost exactly what we asked for, and TRUST ME, we will all be paying him back soon starting on the grand opening date.

So why not try our hardest now to make it as cheap as possible? It doesn’t hurt to try. He’s not gonna end the business if we keep asking him.

mudd club was on the news today. I’m all for supporting the business and having a well maintained arcade that caters to our needs. Needs like getting the sticks fixed when they go wrong BUT NOT needs like “i need to get in for free” or something. I believe everyone is comfortable in paying at LEAST 2bucks entry.

But the only thing which seems like a concern is that the games remain 25c. It so much quicker to put in a quarter vs. 5 tokens, or 3-5 nickels.

Id gladly pay 2-3 dollar entry to KNOW that the sticks will be maintained immediately.
as opposed to
paying the nickel city admission, and the worker doesn’t know how to do shit but turn the game on and off.

I really think this will be a good thing for the gaming community entirely, not just for 6yr old 2d fighting games.

They have Derby Owners Club too, and I know for a fact that D&B usually has all 8 of their race stations full for racing.I would have to wait in line in order to get into a race where each race is $4!

and can someone plz reply with a confirmation about the new mvc2, cvs2, 3s cabs?

i don’t know about you guys but i notice a lot more marvel players than any other fighting game at nickel on fridays :3

Holy shit. So much to read. Well, heres my essay

Well, Im with p91. Im willing to pay the $2 fee to know that all the sticks are maintained and will be fixed once its broke. Viet was saying how they probably wont remove the $2 entrance fee but he is going to try to talk to the owner about changing the price for the fitting games to 25cents or better yet, lower every game down a quarter. $2 entrance fee and 25cents per game isnt bad. I mean, wasnt that how much you had to pay at Golden Token and there was alot of people going there. He said that the $2 entrance fee is for maintainance on all the games, not only the fighting games. Keep in mind that they have other games than the fighting games. They also have PCs and those dancing games.

The reason why they havent lowered the prices yet is because they are working on one thing at a time. Once they get all the cabinets then we’ll work on getting them to lower the prices. Just be patient.

He was also planning to make a new arcade somewhere else so if the arcade machines arent making enough money, it’ll probably be best for him to split up the machines and move some of them to the new location.

As for the new cabinets, they’re getting them very very soon. I’ll let you guys know as move info comes along

If we get working buttons and sticks, then I guess thats worth the 2 bucks.

But please .25 cents :frowning:

i 2nd that. =]

Because Mudd CLub just isnt an arcade. You really think he’s going to be bringing in the big bucks? I bet you he wont even be paying off his full principle for years to come. If this place stays open, Im sure he wont even see a profit for years to come. Dont you pay $2.00 to play at nickel? To play on one machine where one side sucks and one side is decent? Why do you think me and franky started hold casuals more… you think it doesnt cost? It does, but thats the price we’d gladly pay to have friends over, on a decent set up for some good competition. Andy, Ray, Franky, Me, Edgar are all people that ive seen at FFA, or cal poly in the past 3months, if price was that big of a problem then i dont think these guys would be making 50 dollar trips.

Things take money, You cant name one arcade that didnt have higher game fee's when they were first starting out. Maybe the owner is trying to make his money back asap...... is that bad? This isnt directed towards you, but anytime san diego starts to get something good going nobody represents shit, nobody supports anything, because there to busy trying to save a buck.

I’ve seen a bunch of arcades come and go, and im willing to bet the majority of them died out due to the fact that they couldnt keep up with expenses. The only arcade that ive seen actually have a chance to survive was the Game Center off of 3rd and F in chula vista… and that was because it wasnt an arcade it was a pool hall.

Oh and I stated paying 3bucks for boba, because you can make 20 cups of boba for 3.00, but you’re not going to tell them to lower there prices, because you would hope you’d get what you pay for.
