Samurai Spirits aka Samurai Shodown - 2019

100% agree with this. Tsubame is way easier on a sick imho. I played Ukyo in 5sp but I’ve switched to hitbox since then and have no interest in him anymore

With all this talk about Tsubame Gaeshi - feels appropriate to post this

That’s true you don’t have to hit diagonals. I was able to get it somewhat reliably on the 1p side but because the piano motion is so weird on the 2p side I was never really able to make it work.

I hear you RE carrying another controller, but I’ve seen some pretty good ukyo players who hardly ever use Tsubame too, so if practice doesn’t do it, maybe just figure out a plan that doesn’t require much of it.

I mean, I hardly use tsubame and I just did decently at a tournament, sooo…
It’s mainly missed as an AA for my part.

I think I’m the opposite. I probably overdo tsubame to my detriment sometimes.

I’m loving that 5B buff that he got. Makes confirming into his heavy special way easier, he was already a monster at punishing things but now he’s even better. I haven’t tested yet but I’m curious to see if he can cancel from throw microstep 5B into heavy special against everyone. He could only do it on maybe half the cast pre patch.

Tsubame’s a bit like EWGF in Tekken I feel. It’s a really powerful multi-purpose move that requires fairly precise execution to pull off, so it’s easy to get into the trap of wanting to style too hard or using that one move for everything. And because the move has drawbacks, you can get punished badly you’re using it incorrectly.

There’s another local Ukyo that mostly wants to show off his sick tsubame execution (he actually does do tk tsubame relatively reliably on hitbox, I’m pretty jealous), but I don’t think he’s ever taken a game off of me.

Because when you have “sick tsubame execution,” you want to start pressing buttons, and pressing buttons is the best way to lose at SamSho.

So Genjuro isn’t even in that tier now?

(I haven’t played since the patch)

Maybe, maybe not. He’s not nerfed as much as you’d think. They just took out the ungga. However, characters like Jubei and Hanzo benefited a lot from the patch.

There isn’t really a set tier list at this point (most of what I posted was from stuff other players were saying on Twitter), so we can’t be too sure except maybe for Tam Tam and Charlotte.

Tsubame is a really risky move, the secret is to make it a calculated risk when you use it.

SonicSol is a player who overdoes it with them and gets rekt for it because he likes to try and style on people.

Yeah, I’ve seen his games and wondered why the fuck he’s not calming down multiple times.

But hey, as long as he’s having fun, right?

Dude’s whole game plan is knockdown slide, backdash Tsubame too early for them to even get up and have it hit them. Baffles me how he gets as far as he does in the few tournies I’ve seen him in. Maybe it’s like the Ken scrub who does alll the shit no good player would do and beats you with it because you think he won’t actually do it.

I’m not normally one to talk shit about other players but he’s a shit talker and dodges me in 5Sp so I feel like I’m entitled since he won’t let me push his shit in onstream :joy:

Played this game for the first time today.

Literally played 100 games of it.

Holy shit SamSho is amazing and SF5 is trash.

Sure I don’t have to say SF5 is trash to praise SamSho.

But going from one to the other is a massive head trip.

A lot of the cast was really fun to play. Didn’t get the hang of Ukyo’s Tiger kneed special thingy in the few matches I played.

Only character I didn’t get around to playing was Icerururur or w/e the blue Nakoruru is.The new chick with the gong and the spells was hella fun to play.

Game is fucking crack though. Dodge and Deflect felt like good skill mechanics. Strong options but not gimmicky.

Suffice it to say I learned a lot of fuck all about the game. Friend I played with is new to FGs in a lot of ways. He hadn’t really played the game a lot and his footsies are pretty raw. Game is crazy fun. Got to land a couple of SSMs so I’m happy.

Oh yeah, hitting Heavy Slashes for FAT DAMAGE is a great feeling. Haohmaru making lifebars explode is a 10/10 experience; same with Darli sawing the hell out of people.

Quick question, wtf is cancelable in this game? didn’t feel like I ever found which normals were cancelable.

Proximity normals, and recoil are cancelable. With Darli the first hit of medium slash can be canceled.

Each character has a go-to normal to cancel off of; for some of them, it’s 5B, for some it’s close 5C, and on and on. Sometimes this changes depending on the situation, i.e. backthrow, standing, etc. Get into training and work out a couple short combos and you’ll be pretty good to go, at least for lower/mid level play. The game is pretty easy to pick up, so learning your character’s bnbs won’t take you long.

I’d learn your character’s optimal throw combo since throws happen a lot in this game. Landing WFT off throws is usually a game changer.

Recoil cancelling is pretty important too because you cancel unsafe heavies into deflect and then land SSM which does like 80% health.

Or just use Nak, who trades range for a half dozen good cancel combos.

Comboing WFT off light slash just feels all kinds of dirty.

Just about everyone gets something off B. Just need to test if it’s near, crouching, or even far.

That said, recoil cancels are best because you get that big fat 6% counterhit bonus.
