EDIT: More fan art.
I’m really looking forward to getting to dunk on some noobs on ranked day one when this game comes out.
Course I’m also very interested in seeing how the meta for this game develops with stuff like JD in it especially.
I’m been playing mk11 it been fun but I’m looking forward to play samurai showdown more now then I ever been. I have a problem with mk11 where I loss matches because I can’t do a big damage combo to save my life but I have won lot of my matches because I have good neutral and footsie in mk11 but what I’m seeing from samurai showdown is a lot of footsie and near or nonexistent combos.
also mk11 the inputs on strings are so hard to point of ridiculous.
So from what I can see in the vids the combos are pretty short and sweet…
Welcome to Samurai Shodown, where you can absolutely win games without doing a single combo.
Need to watch some more classic matches but the idea that this game is going to be super slow feels wrong.
Oh man… NO MINA!
I think speed will depend on the players. Smart players playing against other smart players will realize that rushing in blind is a quick way to lose and probably cool their jets a bit. But you’re going to have a lot of new players that try to play this game like its DBZ or GG and get blown up.
I think the game will still be faster than 5 Special due to how the throw game and oki game will work. Throws actually having a whiff animation will lead to 3rd strike esque oki where you shimmy and bait out reversal throw or side steps, and you punish each of them with a heavy slash or combo. They could press a button to stop your walk in, but if blocked/parried/side stepped/crushed, you’ll be at advantage anyways. And if walking is good, it’ll be easy to walk back and forth on someone’s oki to coax counter buttons and whiff punish them, or scare them into doing nothing and you throw them again.
I think the up close game will keep the game proactive more than the previous games have. In Samsho 2, if they mash throw but mistime it, they’re still going to throw out a button anyways. In 5 Special, you have that dumb hoption select stuff that turns everything into a wack scramble.
So with the new Samsho, I think it could have the pace of 3rd Strike except without it’s air game. The game will be a bit slower in pace than modern games, but it’ll still be faster than previous Samshos.
Unrelated, but SS director Kuroki shared this Rick Strowd render he did.
Damn Sega BTFO
Looks like she got a bunch of new stuff compared to her previous 2D incarnations.
I like her style
“Samurai Shodown has no combos.”
Mikado stream from the location test.
