Samurai Shodown Sen aka Edge of Destiny

Where are you guys even getting this game. Gamestop said that they wouldn’t have it till tomorrow at the earliest.

Gamestop. A few locations here only had 1 spare copy/enough for pre-orders. The one I got mine at had about 6. I guess it varies store-to-store.

Also the game isn’t very good, as expected :frowning: Nice music and a few of the new characters (Angelica, Suzu) are cool, though.

Amazon had release date shipping that was almost as much as basic shipping.

Game is good at 5 bars, about 3 frames of input delay (this was playing from MD to GA). At 3 bars, it’s a mess. I dunno how some of the power characters will be able to cope online, i tried using wan fu, and it’s pretty impossible online since his attacks are so slow. One thing i don’t like about the game is the throw button. I’d rather it function how it does in the older games or make it a 2 button input. And this is def. not the worst samsho game, SS4 takes the cake on that one.

Look at Top 10 games.

To your knowledge, SS4 is one of most popular SS games around, and overall your statement does not compute (Unless I imagine that SS players are starved for playing worst games in series)

^ Yeah, caliagent#3 just proved he proved he doesn’t play Shamsho.

I mean there’s opinions, and then there’s…

…Anyway. If anything comparisons for the worst SS’s are SSIII and the Warriors Rage 2 for the PSX.

Yup, you got me there. My previous post obviously proves i don’t play it.

Of course ss4 is popular amongst the kaillera crowd, so are the other old and obscure games. Popularity doesn’t necessarily mean a game is good. If that was the case then you’d have to concede that SF4 is an amazing game, which i know some of you in this thread hate. If you polled everyone on this site, i bet SS2 would come out on top as the most popular SS game.

Actually I don’t particularly like SSIV. In addition, I didn’t say it was popular = it being good. Simply put, its an improvement of SSIII’s system (which was more or less a beta). So it can’t be objectively worse; that’s like saying Zero 1 is better than Zero 2. Sure we can say we like it more and no-one can argue that…but objectively it is the “better” game.

Just like objectively I’m sure no-one would argue SSIII and the WR2 aren’t down there with the worse Shamsho games ever. Let me put it like this - I’m not arguing that SSIV is good, I’m saying that there’s stuff much worse, so its better by comparison. Obviously you haven’t seen the shitpile that’s WR2 if you say SSIV is the worst in the series. If you don’t believe me then go get a PSX emu and find the ISO/BIN/CUE. 100% dissatisfaction, guaranteed. :china:

Wow, this game sounds like the “Snakes on a Plane” of fighting games. It spent a good half a year being hyped as one of the worst fighting games out there, to the point that, now that it’s out, it actually doesn’t quite manage to live up to the hype by being kinda playable.

…I almost want to try this.

yeaaaaa, i wasn’t responding to you about the ss4 stuff. it’s still the worst of all the games, and yes i’d play ss3 or wr2 before i play ss4.

Anyone know the point of J’s Ush stance?? you only get one attack out of it and the evasive properties aren’t that great. Also, when you come out of the stance there’s a bit of recovery. The only thing i was able to do with it was cancel the recovery into his special attacks, which i guess is good for mindgames but it seems like once you see him enter the stance, you might as well just attack him. Probably have to mess around with it more.

Characters with qcf moves that lunge them forward can do a faux wave dash which looks kinda weird. And you can also tech throws mid attack animation. So if you’re throwing out single vs/hs attacks, you might as well just hit throw to cover your bases.

That’s a stirring counter-argument. You got me completely convinced, man. :wow:

Here is a pic with the button layout for the arcade if anyone is wondering:

well just my 2 cents samurai shodown 3 is not that bad if you play it in the arcade or on samurai shodown anthology. the counsel and emulated version of ss3 that everyone had to play for years is complete crap. Maybe the worste game ever made besides “BLADE” the video game for xbox.

SS4 is more broken than marvel vs capcom 2 :slight_smile: Even played with strict rules its still way to broken.

SS3 vs SS4 is apple’s vs orange’s. If you like a bishido blade type fighter play ss3, if you like combo based fighters play ss4. Personally i would rather play the arcade version of ss3 over ss4 any day. And i played ss4 online for years.

LOL, the game is not perfect, but it is fun to play.

Oh i posted this on gamefaqs but anyone interested in some casuals add me m216xxlegendxx

EDIT: about slow characters online- i think they are good in lag. If you keep good range with wanfu it is pretty hard to block his attacks on reaction in lag. wanfu needs to Keep’s who ever he is fighting at swords length . I played a guy with wanfu and i was kasuki and it was pretty tough.

What bothers me about extreme lag is how good hard vertical and hard horzontal slash become. In 5 bars the game is awsome :slight_smile:

Yeah I agree with that. SS3/SSIV are both pretty broken; its like, “choose your poison”.

Warriors Rage 2 however, is not debatable.

man i suck ass at 3D fighters. it’s taking me a while to go from the 2D fighter playstyle to the 3D one. movement is kinda limited in this game since any HS attack beats side-stepping. i just have to guess when it comes to that because half the moves destroy side-stepping. ducking also seems like ass since basically all moves hit it. must be for when you think the opponent will throw? btw, hanzo is a bad-ass in this game.

The only point of it is being a homage to Irako Seigen’s Mumyo Sakanagare (“Lightless Reverse Flow”) technique from Shigurui manga/anime.

Why they gave it to afro samurai who is not blind is beyond me.

this is called “special step system” (???, tokushu step kei) and is used as preset for special moves.

Combo (optional) -> Special Step Motion -> press different buttons while your character executes special step for different special moves. The timing of those button presses also determines which moves you will get. So basically.

Special Step->A = special move 1
Special Step->late A = special move 2
Special Step->B = special move 3
Special Step->late B = special move 4
Special Step->C = special move 5

etc

This was explained on SNK site that game has sidestepping to evade vertical attacks and ducking to evade horisontal attacks, so you should guess which attack will come out.

i figured this one out. i was able to do all his moves and even the weird neutral step thingy into his fastest and just inputs (i think). i did his neutral step by pressing forward, go to neutral, and just as you see his front leg landing is when you press down and then down forward. if you do it right then when you press VS his uppercut will come out. do it just as you press the down diagonal and two uppercuts will come out. don’t know if there’s a way to do 3 of them (maybe that’s the just input?) but i was doing the two uppercuts many times in a row without messing up and i’m no expert on execution. at first i couldn’t even get the neutral step thing to work and then it would happen randomly so i just started looking for visual indicators of when you’re supposed to input the rest of the command after going neutral and it always seems to work when he’s coming down on his front foot after the slight hop. what’s neat is you can delay it as well while he’s sliding so the uppercut will have more reach. why they did it like this? they want to make shit hard like in VF games just to be assholes :slight_smile:

thanks for explaining. that makes sense then.

Is this game worth it?

Not in a way of YEAH THIS IS THE BEST AND MORE TECHNICHAL SAMSHO OR EVEN FIGHTER GAME EVER but more in a sense of being funny like a Mortal Kombat :slight_smile:
