Samurai Shodown Sen aka Edge of Destiny

English Site is up.

Gamestop and Amazon both have the game up for pre-order, showing it shipping on 3/30/10. I asked on Xseed’s Facebook page and they’ve yet to confirm this as the official launch date, however. Still hope it comes out next week, though.

hate me if you want but i just preordered it on amazon.

Um, good luck fighting hordes of Ukyos, Kyoshiros and Dracos on XBL

well i already fight hordes of kens, ryus, and sagats online so i’m used to it

good luck fighting nobody on xbl

probably the unfortunate truth :<

Unless Sen is flawless, no one is gonna play it because of the big bad monster coming late next month.

Regardless, 3d ruined MK, now 3d will destroy SS too.

BTW, its on XBL only because can you imagine already shitty netcode on PSN? ugh…

It’s not PSN. It’s SNK making shitty netcode on a whole for us. Blame Gamesoftsynch or whatever they’re called. SNK has single handedly made a new term called Gamesynchsofts bad. From then on, everyone that has a horrible connection to a game calls it Gamesynchsofts bad.

i got it mostly for the cool looking models and not for the crappy animations and gameplay. i’m sure i’ll be playing it even when there’s no one to play against like most ss games.

Samurai Shodown Sen Daily Demo
"Today On The Spot, Ryan Mac Donald stops by to demo Samurai Shodown Sen on the Xbox 360."

–>they also show to you crappy translated Haohmaru’s moveset in-game.
They translated Haohmaru’s special step system (a step-like movement with buttons inputs during which resulting in specials) as “Pulse-wave Kick”, while he just steps forward during that, and it was named “Calm Feet” in japanese version.

I want to point out the thing about the “Special Step System” in Sen. In most fighting games you input [directional command]+[attack button] to execute special move. In Sen for most characters you input [directional command] to activate “special step” which is a short movement … then pressing [attack button] while your character is in that movement results in special move…different attack buttons for different special moves.

Japanese players specifically note that such system creates bad habits like pressing “qcf…wait…a” instead of “qcf+A”, and if you play Sen for awhile, it becomes more difficult to play other fighting games.

Anyway, according to the movelist shown in video, Haohmaru’s Special Step is ?N??
His (now non-ranged) whirlwind attack has three versions

?N??+A resuts in Cyclone Slash Zero Style
(the generic simultaneous button press like in most fighting games - labeled as unusual “fastest input system” by SNK)
?N??..(wait)…A results in Cyclone Slash 1st Style
(non-simultaneous input, this one plays the role of normal, default input in the game)
?N??..(wait longer)…A results in Cyclone Slash 2nd Style
(another non-simultaneous input, this one is labeled “late input” by SNK)

from what I can tell at moment, different versions of the move just will have more or less wind effect on them, and maybe a bit different hit/recovery properties, none of them produces whirlwind projectile though.

Haohmaru’s Crescent Moon Slash/Kogetsuzan also has 2 different versions - the “normal” input results in single-hit kogetsuzan, and “fastest input” in two-hit kogetsuzan

They should just give Samurai Shodown 2 the HD Remix treatment. That was the high water mark for the series.

This game should be called Samurai Caliber: Dark Resurrection.

Samurai Pantsdown

You’re not alone

This game is funny. I wouldn’t mind renting it or playing it over someone else house. I wouldn’t buy it.

I think they should have imitated SFIV making the game 3-D but actual 2-D old school SS gameplay.

Is it effective to use the Cyclone Slash 2nd style?

Zero Style one deals 24 damage, First Style deals 22, and Second Style deals 19, and its the same deal with all moves (the faster you press the button, the better version you get). However when you go for the late press, opponent may think that you are not gonna press at all, and you can go for a surprise attack.

here’s a 9-minute gameplay video of the console version

I’m probably in the same boat as pootnannies here; I reserved the game already and am looking forward to it finally coming out in 3 days. I mean… it’s the weirdest thing, because I know the game’s pretty darn bland, but for the craziest reason I wanted to play it for all this time (was actually pissed when it was canceled the first time). I guess it’ll ease my boredom just a tad since I sorta got bored with every other game in my library that isn’t Rock Band, even vanilla SFIV, since I know Super’s gonna be kickass. Sen just reminds me of that one game you just want, even though you know everyone’s going to look at you like you’re brain-damaged for shelling out 50 bucks for it. Sorta like how KOFXII was for me (which I didn’t buy, ironically)… or Rumble Roses for that matter. Looking forward to playing Rimururu/Nakoruru in 3D for the first time.

My hat is tipped off to the soul that can watch Sen for 9 minutes straight because anyone that can accomplish that feat is a stronger man than I.

kinda wanna play this game cause samurais and shit rule

What the hell

Maybe it’s ridiculous of me to pass judgment just from seeing videos but this looks like a ghetto version of Soul Calibur with SamSho characters, they even have the Namco floaty juggles and Tekken-style wall combos

Calling this “Samurai Shodown” is almost false advertisement, it has SamSho characters and it’s a fighting game, but the similarities seem to end there
