Samurai Shodown Anthology

I too have 1-4 in MVS because they’re cheap as hell to get. Is 5SP really that much? Even for a bare cart??? You’re dashing all dreams of owning it I might have ever had.

I saw a video on youtube showing the asia release of SSA and after all this wait, no 5sp! I finally got Rokuban Shoubu instead. For the most part, the games play great.

5sp wasn’t in the asian release. it is supposed to be in the US release though.

Yeah that is what we have been told, however, the game is not listed so far on SNK Playmore USA’s site. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Yes it is roughly that much for a cart. Slightly less for MVS than AES IIRC.

The date on Amazon.com has gone from 2-24-09 to March 31, 2009.

Fuckin christ SNK.

^^Man that’s nuts. I’m starting not to care about these collections anymore. Not to mention amateur programmers in there spare time did the emulation better 10 fucking years ago. I’d like to support SNK more but I don’t get what’s going on. And I’m still pissed off about all the misprints in my KOFXI manual.

I think I’m just in a bad mood.

I don’t think I’ll care about this game anymore once SF4 comes around.

Good for you; the rest of us will of course continue to have fun with the series.

First reports are in from people who’ve gotten their hands on the Asian version of the PSP port…it’s another U.S/Terminal Reality developed compilation. In other words, it’s another “KoF Orochi Saga”, and not a translation of “Rokuban Shobu”:

*First, the good:

-The menu presentation is spot on. It’s similar to KoF: Orochi except with samurai decor, basically.

-Six games for the price of one.

-Extensive media gallery (with most of the stuff unlocked already, like music for 1-5, artwork, etc., also, this gallery’s artwork loads on the spot, unlike KoF: Orochi)

Now for the bad. And there’s a lot of it.

-No fucking Samurai Shodown V Special. Now it’s confirmed.

-6 cannot be upscaled to fit the width of the PSP screen. Basically it’s in 4:3 ratio. Wouldn’t be a big deal if the screen was so small. The other games can be upscaled to fit the screen, though.

-Only arcade and training for every game (along with the obvious network play options)

-6 suffers from severe, and I mean severe, artifacting in the graphics. It looks HORRIBLE. Lines going through the characters, really ugly hitsparks, choppiness, ugh… And to make matters worse, as I note below, something seems off about the game’s speed.

-Tons of loading, just like KoF: Orochi, but even worse. Curiously, 6 takes the least time to load.

-Music is never synced up right. This is just like KoF: Orochi. Music playing and skipping through loading, and all that good shit.

-Slowdown in a couple of the later games. I haven’t noticed it much in 1 and 2, but 3, 4, and 5…yeesh. 6 seems to be fine but something feels off about its speed. Perhaps the frame rate was lowered?

-Controls can be a bother for certain characters in certain games, too. Now, I’m not talking your run-of-the mill PSP d-pad problems, I’m talking about the game doing this. Try doing Haohmaru’s weapon breaker in SS2. Chances are, 9 out of 10 times you’ll get the Kogetsuzan instead. Other moves, like Sieger’s weapon breaker, curiously don’t have this problem. There also seems to be problems getting the super in SSIV to register, and that game’s pretty easy to do them in.

-Sparse training mode options. 6, the game that probably needs them most, doesn’t have them. So if you wanna play as the characters in training mode to, say, study the POW attacks’/super bars’ properties or whatever, it can only be done in III’s groove and VI’s groove.

There are hardly any options for setting the cpu opponent in training mode, either. The best you can do is have your opponent mirror your attacks at the same time. What a waste. The regular options mode is just like Orochi’s and only has a difficulty setting. What do we need an options mode for if there are no options?

I don’t know about the other stuff like the soundtracks (I haven’t heard any of the arranged SamSho tracks before other than Nakoruru’s) so I don’t know if they’re the original or arranged soundtracks. I do know that there’s no option to change it.
*

This is just the PSP version, though I don’t doubt that the PS2 version is too far off from it in suckiness. WTF SNKPUSA??? Why didn’t you just translate KoF Orochi Collection and SS Rokuban Shobu instead of farming this shit out and dropping the ball on it?

I sort of know how you feel man. Generally game collections in US are not good. Collections in Japan are better, that is way I’m great SNK’s games from Japan.

I will get it regardless of any flaws. What’s the better alternative besides MVS?

As far as SNK’s latest collections go, this is true.

But the “Capcom Classic Collection” series was great (developed by Digital Eclipse, who are among the best as classic gaming emulation), SFAC and SFAA were great, and the “Taito Legends” compilations, while not as good as the “Taito Memories” ones from Japan were great as well. But yeah…here in the U.S, unless it’s developed by Digital Eclipse or to a much lesser extent Atomic Planet, it’s garbage.

You know, its fucking awesome certain companies want to make compilations of some of the best game they have ever made…

…but why even put it out if you not gonna put effort into making even HALF-WAY decent??? These games should be getting the utmost time and care to be ported/emu’d correctly.

I dont get it…I just dont fucking get it…

is there a color edit mode by chance?

well there is a better way… and it’s pretty obvious. lets just say i can play these games (except for Tenka) on my psp any time i want. BUT I NEEDS DAT COLOR EDIT MODE!!!

From what I read, each game is just a straight forward port. Meaning SS5 has no english story mode and SS Tenka also lacks any of its PS2 exclusive modes/characters. Color edit modes are present in the Japanese PS2/Wii versions of Rokuban Shoubu though.

Im waiting this for english SS6, because its only variation of 2D SS game I cant play on my PC.
Also I wouldnt care about SS5sp inclusion, as a guy who played it online for last 5 years anyway

I don’t really mind that this compilation sucks, and that’s because I already have Tenka for PS2, have SS0 for Xbox, can play SS0sp online like Black Shroud noted, and any others I don’t have can be ordered NTSC-J for my Sega Saturn easily. No problem.

Holy shit, next week, $15, fuck it, I’ll buy it again. Let’s hope it doesn’t get delayed again… Ohh yeah, SS6 is confirmed too. If only it were online too, but shit, I can’t complain at this point.

So does this actually have 5sp? The product description says it has 6 games in it and then it says it has 7 games in it. Since it has both things listed I am still kind of confused. For only $15 though I’ll get it no matter what.
