Samurai Shodown Anthology

Im sure sir, that Samurai Shodown Sen was the game made specifically to match your tastes

maybe for you? i never enjoyed a 3d ss game, ever. your forgetting it should be an evolution, not going back into the prehistoric era. just cause the later games are better than 2 doesnt mean their good. ss2 was the best fighter back in 94, probably most played fighter of 94. the ss games you mention, even though NOW better than ss2. as fighters thety aint really good, pretty decent but thats all. 3 = broken but i still played the shit out of it, same for 4. 5 and 5sp where pretty good but still not what it should have been. i enjoyed tenka but i hardly ever touch, its not worth it imo. till theres a really good new ss game done in 2d, ill just play ss2 ones every 2 or 3 years, lol.

I like SS2 (been nagging BS to play it recently) but saying its the best in the series has got to be the stupidest thing ever.

Why can’t you people see past the nostalgia?

Because they still live in 1994. Not every person can take the advantage of time machine to arrive in 2010

As I said before, SS2 and 5 Special are very different games. SS2 was the peak of that style of Samurai Shodown. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for people to think that it’s the best Samurai Shodown. Though I see that 5 Special is far more polished, I prefer how SS2 plays. It’s just a simple difference of opinion which one’s better.

Please.
Stop.
Talking.

Nothing wrong with opinions, but you’re wrong. You’re simply wrong. You’ve already made it clear you’re another person that doesn’t actually play the games, so why do you even bother?

It’s a tossup between 2 and 4 for the best in my opinion

opinions are still legal right

^ It was pretty much the first sentence of his post I was referring to.

I keep saying this…What does SS2 do in gameplay that SS5sp doesn’t do? SP improved the SS2 formula to playable for me.

Exactly. People never explain their love for SS2. They simply say its the “best”.

One can only assume they say such nonsense because its the only game in the series they touched, they heard some other people say SS2 was good and jumped on the bandwagon.

Its the one I had the most fun with

shrug

Word.

And for the record, may not be your opinion, but I think 6 is head and shoulders over 2 in the gameplay department as well. It’s become my personal favorite out of the whole series.

a very simple reason why ss2 WAS the best ss game ever. when it came out it was by far the best fighting game out. fighters got better over the years, other games got to that level of being the best fighter around. while ss2 is old and cant be considered a top fighter, especially a top 5 or top 10 fighting game ever. at least it had that rep in 94 (nr1).

all these crappy ass ss games you guys are defending suck major ass. look at the relase dates of the later ss games 5 and 5sp and tenka. compare it to the other games that came out in the same era or earlier. ss 5 till tenka came out in 03 till 05. they came out way after games like sf3ts, lb1 & 2, motw and other games that shit on it. ofcourse the newer ss games are better than 2, they are made 10 to 12 years after it. but even games as old as from 97 shit big piles of shit over all these past 03 ss games combined. these games have NOTHING to offer that other games dont do better.

in 94 there was no game doing shit better than ss2. not to mention back in 94 ss2 was interresting to play for over a year. all these new ss games are interresting to play for 1 day, not per game but all 3 combined. nobody plays it, nobody played it when it got released. they are considered crap because there are way better fighters out there. i cant understand how anybody can defend piles of shit like this, you guys do understand that these games where made in 03 till 05. for a 2d game out of 03 or later these games look and play like shit. balance alone isnt enough to make a good game.

Its not 1994 anymore so your argument crumbles apart. Yet again.

And Third Strike, last Blade and MOTW ain’t running circles around nothing, sorry.

Maybe you should…

I like the one that has the guy with the sword in it.

My enjoyment of Samurai Shodown 2 has nothing to do with nostalgia. I simply enjoy playing it. If that bothers you, I don’t know what to tell you.

Oh, you mean that one. That ones…okay. I mean, I would play it but I’d rather play the sequel more.

i like ss2 for what it is. sure it has nostalgia but i don’t think that’s why most people prefer it to the other samsho games. it’s easy to get started and there aren’t all kinds of silly subsystems that you have to learn. the only thing i dislike about it is the massive amount of evasion moves. roll forward, roll backward, go prone, hop back, and hop in place. were all those really necessary? other than that anyone can just jump in and play.
