I will admit I was terribly disappointed by 3, and everything after 4. 2 seems to be the high point.
quite simply put, once upon a time ss2 was a great game (some still like it). ss games after this game have never been good to begin with, not on release and certainly not now. talkin bs when the only thing your doing is giving your own opinion (which aint worth shit). even now i doubt theres a ss game that gets more play than 2.
I like checkers to what they are. Its easy to get started and there aren’t all kinds of silly subsystems that you have to learn in chess. The only thing I dislike about it is the massive amount of movement options (you can move to front left and to front right, and hop over other pieces. were all those really necessary? other than that anyone can just jump in and play.
I guess SS 2 is for people who hate options. The slightest bit of complexity baffles them to no end.
SS2 = send fireball, jump over fireball, melee attack opponent, grab opponent, block. Master that and you mastered the game.
So basically people that think SS2 is the best gameplay wise are the ones that can’t really be bothered to learn anything.

I agree. SS2 people should be alienated from the rest of the SS community. With more than 3 players worldwide that are worth a shit, it’s hands down the best SS EVAR!! Especially with it’s rank dank defense force.

SS2 is good, but not great. I actually never knew that damage is random/etc. One problem I have w/ the game is the ducking and rolling (more so on the rolling). I would double tap df or db, and sometimes would not come out. It is vastly easier to do in SSVSp/SS6
SS4 gets a lot of play in 2df/supercade, but that doesn’t mean it is the best game, far from it.
SSVSp and SS6 are pretty much everything SS2 was, but many times better (of course I’m talking about gameplay). As soon as SSVSp is on GGPO, I’ll be playing none-stop baby!

the reason why some people prefer ss2 has been stated many times. it’s a simple game that’s easy to get into. the later games just added more options to pile on it to make it “complex”. you’re basically playing the same game with a ton of hurdles in the way to do damage. i like ss5sp, ss6, and ss sen, but those games are not as fun for me as ss1 and 2 were. more options does not necessarily equal a better or more strategic game.
if you hate ss2 then who cares. why make it a competition to see what game everyone should like best?
