Question, which SS do you think would be best suited for a fighting game tournament similar to EVO?
If you ask which one is most balanced and free from infinites, then its SS5 Special
Can I get a quick rundown of this collection and how close the games are to being arcade perfect?

I know, it’s probably mentioned in the thread somewhere but I’m too lazy to look through 36 pages. lol
They’re all fine, and SS Tenka has an arcade mode option as well as “original mode” which fixes some bugs in the arcade version.
SS0 Special would be the best one nominally, but unless you’re planing to run a tournament on a bunch of MVSes or PCs, you’re only real choice is SS6/SSTenka on PS2 (SS Anthology).
Unless you wanna kick it old school, in which case you run either SS2 or SSIV.
So, who’s up for some Tenka at Final Round this year?
Not me; I haven’t practiced or played anyone to be honest.
And I’m going to go out on a limb and say that pretty much anyone else coming to FR has, either.

Where have all the players gone?
Its sad to say but samurai shodown scene’s are dying all over the place. Even in china and japan. I go to lastsky.net and read some stuff from time to time. At first i was pretty excited cause lastsky.net post new casuals every day. The skill level of the casuals is not good. Infact its average at best. But still it looked like there was a big community. So i got to watching video’s and reading post and stuff and the reality is the samsho community is dying all together. I am not too sure about in japan but i know watakun (houru9) has been trying to get players to go to tournaments and was having trouble.
I knew eventully ss6 would be released in usa. I was hoping some sort of small community would come out of ss6 being released in usa but there was literally nothing beyond me and my friends. I been trying to find ss6 tournaments in usa to go too. I found afew tournament in usa, but we couldnt even get 8 poeple to show up… So this is the samsho community in usa
This post really has no meaning, just me saying what is happening with smaurai shodown around the world. It kinda sucks but then i think to myself “what can i do about it”… Any ways The next tournament in usa for ss6 that has 8 poeple i will go to. I will keep you guys updated on the results.
On a unrelated matter what is everyone up to? does anyone have any interest in playing some casuals some time? I cant play often but I can at least play once or twice aweek . Please add me to msn xm216x@hotmail.com

ss4 has a huge random following, but you have to know the rules to play it in a tournament so i dont think it would work out in usa.
ss2 has been doen before, but honestly i think poeple would just rather play sf2
ss5sp will not do well at a tournament, poeple feel like the game is too simple, not flashy enough ect ect
ss6 has a good chance of having a scene, its very balanced just like ss5sp. Its the newest 2d samsho. Everyone can play it for 15$ on ps2. Its just there is no huge following so playing alone you will never learn the game well enough.
Personally if there was any sort of ss5 tournament i would love it. But i think ss6 is more practicale.
My friend tried to get answer’s at final round.com but no one ever responded to his post… we didnt even know what samsho you guys would be playing and honestly you guys didnt mention playing any samsho at all. We where gona go but no one ever replied. Can you PM me a link to the FR page thats talks about tenka?
The ironic thing of it all is that SS0 Special is the only one that’s still not on modern consoles, and SNK made an enormous mistake omitting it from the anthology collection. How good is the gameplay in SS6 compared to SS0 Special?
The funny thing is ssvsp has been around for free since the year it came out, there was a scene for the game but not any more. ss5sp is about pokes and timming. ss6 is about overwhelming offense and get up game. ss6 has so manny characters and spirits so it adds alot of different options as far as gameplay.
Then if an SS game would be included for Evo, I’m guessing that SS6 would be the perfect option.
The only two i could see actully drawing poeple in are ss2 and ss6. SS6 needs more exposure in usa before it cna have a big scene. Most poeple have no way to even know the game exist. And the ss2 scene i think is online only and very small and weak :).
I agree with this, it’s a shame anything SNK is pretty much hated on or ignored by the general masses of the US, even if they are good games. I haven’t gotten around to online gaming as much as when I had my own place, but I would like to get some matches of SS0 SP. I really wish this game would get a console release.
I’m not a big fan of SS2’s randomness, it feels like ST but with inconsistent combos due to the silly hitstun.
SS Tenka had a small tourney scene going in Houston when it was out for like a month, then people gave up. Fubarduck used to be pretty awesome with Amakusa, and I lost to Buktooth at the last tourney that game ever got at Final Round ages ago. I think that game only got around 16 entrants, if that.
Keits used to play the game also, but he’s probably too focused on Street Fighter and TvC atm.
Sigh, it’s kinda depressing trying to remember any SNK major and their numbers. At one hand you’re like “oh man, other players who like this game!” and the other hand you’re wondering why this number of people will not grow at all. 
It really is a shame that nobody plays more SSVS, then again, this goes to any SNK fighter unfortunately. It is one of my favorite fighters too. SNKP really needs to release SSVS to modern consoles already. Keeping it as an exclusive for only the NeoGeo is really getting old. Heck, I think they could have done a UM treatment to it.
SS6 is just as good and really solid game. I play it every so often.

here is some good news for the samurai shodown community, Samurai shodown sen will be released in usa MARCH 30th Say what ever you want but as long as its samsho i will enjoy it. Im surprized that SNK is going out on a limb and releasing sen in usa.
I responded in Sen thread; regarding the overal SS topic I think that Sen’s release at least should attract more attention to the series, since I have no doubts people who will buy it would be eager to try other games of serie (since Sen isnt serie’s strongest title)
