Samurai Shodown Anthology

Perhaps this is late, but I hear that SS Sen for US (Edge of Destiny) has been potentially canceled. Someone on Ignition’s forums said that his Gamestop preoder was canceled. Unfortunate if it’s canceled and not just delayed, but not unexpected, especially after the KoFXII debacle.

LOL at the poor schmoe who bought a US360 just for Sen. Wow, it’s really true: There’s one born every minute.

At least we agree on something.

I’ve been thinking about getting into this game just cuz I need a new fighter to play. I played 1 and 2 quite a bit when I was younger but there are a ton of SS games now. Which one has the biggest scene or which one is considered to be the best?

Out of beginner-friendly SS2
Out of combo-oriented SS4
Out of tactical and actually balanced SS5sp (which also has the largest cast)
All three are playable online at http://2dfighter.com

If you’re playing SS for a scene, you won’t like what you find. That being said, 5sp has the most good players in the US at least. 2 has a lot too.

And SS varies so much between titles that you can’t ever call just one the best. The one everyone loves may be the one you dislike the most

well people usually either
-dont like long learning curve so they search for gameplay simplicity
-dont like slow-paced games where combo counter cant reach 99 hits, so they search for fast rush-type game
-dont like to be infinited so they search for balance

Thanks.

This is what I was looking for. SS5sp is the one I’ll look into. Balance is something that I really like in games so this is a huge draw for me.

I don’t mind a learning curve. Having been playing fighters most my life I generally can grasp the basics pretty quickly…getting good though is another thing.

and lol, I actually prefer games where the counter never reaches 99. I don’t mind fast (mvc2) or slow (sf4).

You can download basic guide/movelist at dojo section of this site

I have the same question as well.

Every samurai shodown onn samurai shodown anthology is emulated 100% perfect arcade quality. Even ss3 is really crisp and it hard to find arcade a quality samsho3.

ss5sp is maybe the most balanced fighting game ever made. Every country that plays ss5sp has different tiers. I have seen low tier character dominate tournaments. The only problem is ss5sp learning curve is huge. The game itself is simple. But the playstyle is unlike any other game. So its something you must get used to. You have to learn to make no openings and that takes along time to learn in my opinion. The best players in ss5sp play like a brick wall. Hitting them will only hurt yourself

I wonder about the ss2 scene, there must be some really great ss2 usa players. WHo are they? there are no known ss2 usa players?

Yeah i have been trying to make ss scene for years. I WONT GIVE UP:crybaby:

I could be wrong, but I suspect that the majority of “SS2 scene” was really just a bunch of SF players who played SS2 on the side. I know in my country there were no dedicated SS players before SS4 - not that we didn’t have some really good SS2 players, but they really played everything; by the time of SS4, we had some specialists, but that was also the last time we had any SS specialists, since we got nothing after that. So I’m sure there are some really good SS2 US players, but they would be players who are also really good (and probably better) at other games.

To make a proper SS scene, you’ll need to pick a game (and only one game; trying to make a scene around multiple games will only confuse new players) that is a) not too old, b) easily available and c) legal. This leaves only SST (PS2 SS Anthology) as your only real choice. I wouldn’t mind seeing a scene around SS0S, but unfortunately, SS0S is emulator only.

Of course, the real way to start a SS scene is with a new game (that’s good!). Sadly, I don’t think one will be forthcoming. :frowning:

I would love a SST USA scene!

SS4 was my favorite. Free Meter from thrown into combo was fun. Fatal Slash was a fun feature. Bust vs Slash gave the characters different styles. It was fun.

It was the only SS that was ever played competitively. There was a laundry mat known for having the only SS2 cabinet in the city. I saw SS3 at this machine, once.

After 12 years, MAME devs finally cracked SS64/SSAZ to show 3D graphics
http://ajg.mameworld.info/

Whats missing from those two screenshots:
-lighting on character models (they look flat, like cell-shaded)
-proper color of shadows/floor
-floor texture

SSAZ is regarded as playable so probably we can try it on kaillera on next MAME update.

There was a SS2 tournament at Final Round last year, I can’t remember the amount of entrants (probably around 20) but I could at least tell those guys played the game enough to know how the engine worked. I don’t know if any of them played online though.

Pre-cum has begun…

Let’s make SSAZ the tournament game.

This game worth it?

I never played a SS game before.
