Salty Cupcakes: SG Thursdays in LA

ofc it got hate, most people have a bnb that uses multiple re-stands, so that’s an immediate issue right there. Also, cr.lk -> s.HP -> fly f+lk for PW is pretty awesome for that half screen low confirm.

Heck, my BnB combo is multi-restand, but I’d be all for changing that in exchange for shorter combos. Though I think the “only in stage 5 part” is also reasonable to try.

I didn’t want to do this because I like you and I know how much you dislike her but…

VALENTINE.

I rest my case.

I

I absolutely love the change and I’m glad you’re still experimenting with different things for potential updates to the SG game. The active community may for the most part be resistant to more changes to the combo system I can say that I am absolutely A-Okay with it. Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents if you’re trying to gauge public feedback.

=]

Did a quick skim of the stream looking for an answer, but I didn’t see it come up during the Painwheel matches I saw… Does her LK Scythe count as a restand for this change’s purposes? I’m smelling a distinction between just going straight from air hitstun to ground hitstun, and being caught midair by a hit-throw that leaves you standing… but just want to make sure. Might also look a bit silly seeing them get hit by the shoulder-ram, and then ground-tech forward immediately.

Funny that you should ask that question… But the answer is that in that build yes for some stupid reason lk buer counts as a restand when done to a grounded character… Saw it in a shin match versus mike… His Bella teched on the ground scythe.

Looking over some combos and seeing when the first restand occurs in stage 5, this change would destroy my ability to make a corner Argus safe by buffering an item hold, as the opponent would be able to tech out of the level 2 drop. Midscreen bnb would be okay, since the first restand occurs at stage 4, but it only works as long as I stick with a meterless ending. Ending with Argus on someone like Double could potentially allow her to tech mid-super. The alternative would be to go …s.hk, qcb.hp, qcf.mp xx qcf.pp, which hits everyone in the air, but then I’d lose item drop buffer. In order to keep it, I’d have to lose the otg item drop, which is a damage hit on a character that already has to work for it. Since this would nerf to item drop’s usefulness, consider giving back some of the meter gain.

Hum… Just found that match in the steams, and It seems to automatically count as multiple restands or something of the sort… Bella teched the scythe from a combo during which she was crouching the entire time up until the scythe (fly-in LK, short string to s.HP, fly.LK, string to s.HP to LK-Scythe). It might be intentional to curb scythe loops, I suppose.

  • You can restand with a Lv2 item drop as long as the hit happens while Peacock’s still in the end of her super. Supers are exempt, which is just by point character state. I think she can still do all 3 supers.
  • Yes, there was a bug with LK Scythe where it counted as both your restands. If this became a thing, that’d get fixed.

Note that at present there’s no plan for this to become an official thing and no plan for a 2nd patch. I just figure why waste an opportunity to experiment. (^.^)

Is there a session where all the DLC colors are shown off (at select screen)?

…aaaand I don’t get this whole Mike Z’s toaster thing.

Understood.

Could you implement this via scripting or something like that though? So it wouldnt need patching? Also, why does scythe count as a restand at all against a grounded character? Seems like a total bug not just that it counts as 2.

Are there any changes that you CAN make without patching? I remember either you saying or someone else saying that you said that there were certain changes that could take place without patching…

And finally i think people are up in arms for the reasons that i mentioned… They have to learn something different, not necessarily something better… Which sucks in theory especially when we think of the fact that many of these things are the culmination of MANY HOURS of work figuring stuff out… And we are used to proposed changes taking place… The speed up happened as well as the ips change… Tere isnt much reason for anyone to really think that this wouldnt happen unless it was a complete non success… But it WONT be a non success cause in the end anything can work… But do we really wnat to learn something new just to nerf long ass boring combos?

Imho only the long ass boring combos should be nerfed… Not the average bnb, unfortunately this change does affect the average bnb… For almost every character…

My only “advice” is to find something that nerfs those long combos while leaving most single charter bnbs under 20 secs long, intact.

If you can find something like that i think the community at large would be very positive towards whatever the proposed solution is…and i dont think anyone hates you or is being vile… I just think that people are scared of losing alot of time and hard work down the drain.

And finally though i totally understand where you are coming from with testing random ideas, it doesnt really bode well for people still looking to get into the game dont you think? They are more than likely seeing “hes still fucking with the game, it isnt finished, ill wait till hes done” than thinking “NO MORE INFINITE RESTANDS?” Skullgirls is on nucka!

Maybe these tests should be secret or not streamed… I mean people can say as many things as they want about liking this change and maybe wanting to play the game now… But truthfully if they arent already playing its for reasons much more pervasive than infinite restands or long combos… Motherfuckers think xfactor and unlimited easy ass otgs in marvel are dumb and they still play that stupidity cause they simply like the game… I play sg with its infinite restands cause i like the game.

I applaud your efforts to to crackdown on the long ass combos though, i think that is a step in the right direction.

I think it is a good change as I still think combos are a tad bit too long in general. Although it does not stop me playing but it is something I would prefer to see go away and no Pali it isn’t because I can’t do long combo :3.

Also Dime I don’t think anybody on the fence thinks like that just because people play Marvel 3 with xfactor and stupid OTGs does not mean they would not like to see them gone, it could be something they just deal with because overall they enjoy the game…like me and SG.

mike check your email!!

if i remember correctly. it is that due to the internet at frootsii not being thebest internet in the world, that the stream isn’t at the highest quality. so the joke is that the streaming device they are using is a toaster.

@SkyKing - I did go through all the DLC colors on character select somewhere, but I have no idea where. Remind me and I can do it again next week.

@Dime -

There IS a reason to think that this change won’t happen: me saying “There are no plans for anything to happen!” and that it’s just an experiment…

Yes, derp. But unless you have any real ideas, statements like this don’t help. The reason I did this was to find out HOW MUCH these changes affect what’s already done by players. Real testing by real people is always the most useful. And there’s no way in hell I’m going to time-limit combos. (People could complain the same about having learned long combos, they put in WORK too. Arguably more work in that area than the people who didn’t learn them. Sometimes things change and you have to adapt.)

I could stop messing with it in public but then I get less information from people who play the game differently from how I do. I highly doubt there are legions of people waiting until the game is “done” that will suddenly grow our player base by thousands if I stop streaming random changes. Especially considering we have less than 150 average viewers for the stream (and they’re mostly people I already know) versus 2000+ for TNR. XBox players are waiting for the patch - sorry - but that’s still mostly people who already played it.

LK Scythe counts as a restand vs a standing character because when you get thrown you’re not standing anymore, which didn’t matter before.

Yes, this kind of update was via scripting, but it’s still a patch and would have to be tested by Sony/MS because it is possible for devs to introduce bugs via scripting. It’s just a much EASIER patch vs things which require executable or filesystem updates. We still have to give it to them to distribute, which means testing and approval.

fair enough mike, its your game, do what you want, in this case i take it as one of those “your loss” situations… which is kinda messed up to say but its how i feel if you are dismissing it outright for no other reason than it being to simple or it “breaking” some sort of arbitrary rule that you and everyone else has come up with… ips breaks alot of arbitrary rules with it allowing bursts… but that worked out fine. i think if you at least tried the combo system the way i mentioned you might be surprised… i mean how many combos last 20-25 seconds currently? not many so its an effect that will rarely be seen… the game for all intents and purposes would look almost the exact same as current skullgirls… which i thought would be a good thing rather than turning 75% of the games current combos on their heads… the timer would nly affect like 5% of the games combos and it would do it before everyone gets used to doing long combos…

also, i dont really get the people could complain argument… isnt what you are doing being done to stop super long combos? so if im understanding you correctly people will complain NO MATTER WHICH system gets put in place… cause a restand nerf and a timer ips both shorten combos…

but one affects much of the current game and the other doesnt… still its a your loss situation if i ever heard of one.

also i did give useful stuff to try such as there being a TWO restand limit instead of just one… and of course the timed ips…i have other ideas as well but meh.

im done with the argument on both fronts, im sorry if i annoyed you and guitalex, but ive said my piece.

I was so hoping this would be the case once SDE dropped. The dream is dead. :frowning:
