I know that you can jab him after. If you nned more information go to .www.WAMO.com ( which means “what are my options on block”). You can punish the mp and hp versions of it on block with standing jab into a combo.
Any info on the new characters?
Oni’s dash attack (not the air dash) is screwing me up. Do I just block it like it’s a crossup? or can he choose which side I’m getting hit on?
Also, regarding Twins:
Their MP, HP, <-HP Target combo is unsafe on block if they do the whole thing.
It kinda pushes you away a little bit though, but you definitely have enough space to cr.mk xx shou
If they just do MP HP then it’s safe.
Yun’s lp, lk, mp is safe unless they completely autopilot it and do hard dragon kicks after or something.
If you predict a dive kick, Sakura’s cr. Fierce can beat it clean if they start from high up and aim for your head/shoulder. Then again, jab trades with everything so idk
Definitely something anyone could have figured out that probably wouldn’t be useful at all at high level, but I said it anyways.
Oni’s fierce and ex dash both cross up. I don’t think the light and medium do… I’ve actually never been able to block the damn thing. I swear if an Oni just spammed that move alone, and switched it up with the light and fierce I’d most likely lose.
If the match is close to the end and they have U1 watch out for the Ex dash > U1. Other then that me personally I just zone them with fireballs. Also cr.lk , cr.lp ,cr.hp > ex tatsu seems to not work on Oni. Maybe replace the cr.hp with cr.mk > sho.
With the twins, I do a lot of zoning. I fireball a lot. They all try to do that palm to cancel it, so I always change the release time on the fireball. Try not to get into the habbit of it though, they can sholder charge through it, or Yang can roll under it. If you can bait them into one of those try to get as much damage in as you can because its really easy for them to come back.
With the dive kicks if you have some space maybe a little more then our st.hk you can stop dive kicks with st.mk, cr.hp. I have had a few matches where hk tatsu stopped them also but I’m not sure how good it is yet. Up close I hear standing jab is suppose help but I still have to get use to the timing. Then you can always U2.
While I got bodied by AI when I was using Yun in Arcade, I got bodied by someone online using Yun…
Anyway that shadow-forward lunging palm he does I found is unsafe on block for the most part. Light, Medium and Heavy are all punishable with a quick normal like Jab or Short, and obviously a grab, where grabbing can be done a little earlier vs cr lk against medium and heavy palm. EX is the only one I haven’t been able to punish via above listed methods.
Oh, to add onto, I’ve also been able to throw out cr. hp, and iirc it’s a 5f strat up, thus it’s quite easy to punish.
Don’t even bother trying to punish ex lunge punch it’s +1 on block.
I don’t, but I do opt to crouch tech though. Since a lot of Yun beginners still think it’s like undefeatable on block.
Against Yun
St.mk is a good AA for his divekick from far range. I’m not too sure about up close, st.lp might be good. I will test this out in matches
Forward throw, cr.lp, crossup j.mk is a good safejump for his DP, (It seems to block his EX DP as well) <—This requires further testing
And if you read a divekick after his blockstring, jump back mp is good. Be careful he doesn’t continue the blockstring though (All about reading here)
I would avoid using EX DP as much in this matchup as in other matchups because Yun loves being in the air and you don’t want to eat a lunge punish into a knockdown from him on whiff.
cl.mp > cr.hp xx tatsu > cr.mk xx DP works on Yun.
You will not get much chance to get damage on Yun so use the most damaging possible combos.
Ex hadoken is good in this matchup imo, because it forces him to stop palming and force him to block or if he jumps, DP that fucker.
Remember, Yun has below average health and stun, so make the most out of your momentum because you will get little chances to inflict damage.
That’s all I noticed so far, I will be in the lab researching for any OS and tricks vs Yun. Feel free to correct me on any of this. Screw the 7-3 matchup, we can do this
Why not just use cr.hp for dive kicks? Isn’t that what we usually use against all divekicks anyway?
About the Yun Matchup
St.Lp is a good AA for yun But if you miss time it he will hit your feet with his dive kick and gain a free combo but this is one of the better ones if you can time it
Cr.HP is godlike as always but this has to be timed correctly aswell
almost all pokes works like an anti air for yuns dive kicks myself finding st.hk nice range AA
dont jump back mp if yun dive kicks or you anticipate it NJ straight up and mp when falling down either he will be in block stun or you get a free combo
the combo im using myself on yun from nj.mp or a lk.shunu frametrap is st.hp, shunpu, cr.hp shunpu, st.lk, ex.shunpu, hold UF jump and do hk.shunpu for some nice dmg and you fly with yun towards the corner and you can instantly do lk.shunpu again for a mixup, frametrap or just block his incomming SRK
also yuns reversal is 5f Light and the EX is 4f so you can safe jump them easily after a throw or SRK etc with almost instantly jumpin hp and OS the hp.shouoken cause alot of yuns like too backdash quite often aswell
thats some of the info i got down on the yun matchup so far they LOVE too frame trap aswell thats his game so dont press any unnecessary buttons <3
Like funkie said: Yun likes to frame trap (with their b.mp etc target combo). Once you predict that (and they love to do it so its not that hard to predict) use your c.mk xx srk to go under the b.mp. I like to lvl 1 focus against dive kicks, it works really well if you know its gonna come.
If Yun is dancing mid/full screen instead of using palms, expect a EX lunge punch. As soon as you see yellow you should ultra/ex srk that top tier bastard. You can also jab him out of EX lunge punch and out of divekicks.
Safe jumps are pretty good against Yun so using your m.srk wouldn’t be a bad choice. I know Ryu can option select a dp on jumpin, if he does that we can’t do upkicks so our only wakeup option is to block. Don’t know if this would work with Sakura’s EX dp but its worth a try.
Btw, try playing against the hardest Oni cpu. You’ll learn how to block those slashes soon enough.
Yun and Yang can both be hit with cl.HP x lk.tatsu ->cr.HP x lk.tatsu -> st.lp ->cr.MK x Hp shou. Good damage combo and reliable for online play.
If Yun tries to use HK DP to escape out of the corner, j.mk os EX DP will hit it.
MP DP, hold up forward, j.hp is a safejump for Yun’s LK DP (5f reversal) but not his EX DP (4f reversal)
Yeah, I’m trying to learn to throw on reaction. He can be thrown out of all of them as soon as he comes close to you. Watch out for him doing the jab one because it may stop short and he may be trying to bait a whiff animation to punish.
About the move where he jumps in the air and punches the ground…you can block the regular one low, but have to block the ex one high.
There’s no real reason to block low after a certain distance (just like Fei), so just be ready to react with a throw when you see him stomp his foot, he’s going for that fucking slash. Fuck that slash, it’s so sneaky during a block string.
To add on to the Oni matchup
His DP can’t be FADC’ed on block, Sakura’s ex tatsu combos sometimes whiffs on him
Asked the Yun forum for their opinion of the matchup vs Sakura

That is totally what i feel. Stupid unbalanced game…
Makes the win more exciting if you beat the yun
They make it sound like we might as well put the stick down if Yun pops up. You fight like 45 Yun’s a day whether endless or rank. I swear I probably only fought 7 or 8 Yang’s since AE has been on console. Lately I’ve been using Ultra 1 on dive kick 's late in the game it usually always works. I feel like you just have to be more aggressive than the Yun player your fighting. I maybe wrong but it’s worked for me so far…
Nothing exiting about playing a skewed matchup over and over
just got bodied hard by a yang at a recent ranbat. it’s frustrating knowing that at least defensively, i blocked the way i should have, but that command grab opens me up for free. i mean, i’ll block the divekick, and the pressure strings, but afterwards, i have no idea what to do. what can i throw out after his second slash? because whatever i throw out just gets punished, and then the pressure starts all over again. when is it sakura’s turn to deal out damage? after sitting patiently through another blockstring, he breaks out the command grab and proceeds to rape me from the back. what do i do?!
