Sakura Strategy and Match-up Thread (2.0)

What are you having trouble with?

Rose should be easy.
With Rose, all you need to do is ATTACK!! Don’t worry about anything else. Rose has absolutely no options against Sakura on wake. Her attacks leave her wide open for punishing, and she’s unable to put Sakura into any sort of frame trap or combo without with a fireball, and when she does use a fireball, it pushes her super far away. The only option Rose has against a Sakura is running away like a little bitch! There’s nothing else she can do!

Hell, Sakura’s LK Tatsu on wake goes through EVERYTHING Rose can throw at you. EVERYTHING!! All Rose can do against an LK Tatsu on wake is block.

Vs Rose

I feel this matchup is even or slightly in Rose’s favour, I use Rose as 2nd and I can say while this is slight advantage Rose (imo), it’s really damn scary.

After a blocked lk/mk spiral (I’m not too sure on hk spiral, I think she can space herself to be + with it), do st.lk (assuming they spaced it right, if not, just do st.lp > cr.mk xx hp shouken or st.lp > cr.hp xx ex tatsu if they’re close enough, or even just cr.hp xx ex tatsu/hp shouken), do st.lk and fish for CH into cr.mk xx hp shouken

Vs Rose’s st.hk, this is annoying for Sakura to deal with, I find staying outside her st.hk range and using cr.mp as a counter poke is good, cr.hp can be used to counter it but it’s risky throwing cr.hp in footsies unless you react with it.

Rose’s cl.mk is +1 on block so don’t press anything afterwards

Also, if they get too happy with cr.mp/cr.mk xx drill/fireball, Ex dp will blow through it and make Rose reconsider her actions, or even U1 if you’re feeling ballsy.

A meaty cr.lk is good on Rose as it’ll block her ex spiral, she can’t do wakeup U2 and if she ex STs, you have time to punish it with a loop.

Wakeup ex ST will beat meaty tatsu, so watch out for that.

If Rose likes to FA backdash, react to it with mp shouken, also don’t forget to OS mp shouken on Rose on jumping on her wakeup to catch her backdash and be ready to react for FA backdash.

If Rose has U1, be wary of jumping or air tatsuing.

I’m not sure on Rose’s other normals as I have no Xbox now to see normals beats what.

From what I remember, Rose’s cr.mp beats out Sak’s cr.mk. I can’t remember if she beats it out pretty easily so you might wanna check that out in training mode since I don’t have any consoles either. Pretty much what Fergus said, her hk spiral is -4 on block but it’s pretty much safe/+ if they space it right.

EX ST can whiff on meaty tatsu if you time it early lol. Once you’re in on Rose, she’s done, I get that. She just pretty much beats Sak’s ass in the midgame though >.>

Good tip on the spirals, and what beats what in footsies? cr.mp can beat out a lot, and s.hk gets beat out a ton too. Half the time I just hk tatsu to get in her face.

Cl.MK is neutral on block.

Use FA against st.HK and st.MK and cr.MK against cr.MP. They’re not guaranteed to beat those moves obviously, but you’ll have a better chance with those than others.

I’d recommend against doing raw Tatsu on the ground at least but Rose does have a tricky time dealing with approach air Tatsu.

Oh I thought it was a 2012 buff that it was changed to +1?

U1 and ex ST should handle air tastu well shouldn’t it?

It only got an extra +1 on hit, not block.

U1 and EX Soul Throw can beat air Tatsu but the latter is tricky to space.

Oh sorry, my bad, I found U1 to be pretty effective vs Sakura anyway

  1. Stay at his jumping range and poke the crap out of him.

  2. Don’t let him jump over your head!

  3. Don’t jump in at him unless he’s on his back! His AA is absolutely nuts!

Thanks I will take note…yea I ran into one a couple days back and couldn’t find a good rhythm for the match. It was driving me crazy. I had to be really careful cause he was using OS mk into hands. I think I was just to impatient.

rose is not easy imo. She zones sakura so easily and spaces her out. Back dash is so good as well i think she can dash out of tatsu without getting tagged. is cmp spiral a true block string? can i mash a dp through it.

Cr.mp xx spiral/fireball is not a true string so yes you can mash ex dp through it or even U1

Rose is easy.
Don’t try to poke her or inch in. Jump in as much as possible. You can hit her out of her Soul Throw. Plus, if she does her cr.HP, you can trade hits. She has no answer to cross-ups outside of her dash. She has no options on wake up. She crumbles under pressure. She has no options to remove herself from the corner except maybe an EX or an Ultra.

When she does an Ultra, most Rose like to jump toward you. You can anti air that slut with an EX DP.

Sakura has so many options against Rose it’s not even funny.

Dude, think about what you’re saying because you’re saying alot of unintelligent things. Hit her at out Soul Throw? What Rose player is gonna be throwing out Soul Throws? Why would they?

Jump in as much as possible is the worst advice you can give to anyone, ever. There isn’t a character in the cast you can jump in for free at.

Rose has a godlike backdash which can’t be OS’ed easily, she has a decent ish walk speed and she can slide under your jump and go for a throw, low, or anything really.

I don’t know what Rose’s you’re playing but they’re obviously not good if they’re letting you getting away with stuff. This isn’t an easy matchup.

Why can’t you jump in for free?

  1. After Rose does her back dash, any jumping opponent is safe.

  2. You can hit Rose out of her Soul Throw.

  3. Rose other anti air is a simple cr.HP. You can trade hits with that.

  4. Rose can use an Ultra, but its circumstantial.

  5. She can do a Soul Spiral, but it’s slow and can either be blocked or go completely under Sakura.

  6. She can slide, but once again, it can be blocked or cross-ed up. In the video you presented, Uryo wasn’t doing what he was supposed to, and he lost. Now, in this video, go to the 2:09 mark and see what this guy did.
