Sakura Strategy and Match-up Thread (2.0)

^
Yeah, you can punish Honda’s fierce headbutt with HP SRK, but someone told me you have to block it standing beforehand.

So, anyone got any more tips vs Yang? I’ve been fighting Yun and Yang like non-stop(most of the people I play with online have picked up Yun, Yang and Fei) and just getting handled lol. I dunno which one’s worse out of the two but I know the least about Yang.

T hawk can’t really jump in easily imo due to Sakura’s excellent AA option. But cr. hp have to be timed (delayed) appropriately, right when he falls within the hitbox of cr. hp because he’s attack can change his hitbox size. If he uses condor dive, it can either be AAed directly by cr. hp or, punished by hp shoryu on block.

When I play the twins matchup I concentrate alot on spacing/zoning. Keeping them at a range where i can counter their move-ins with pokes (cr.mk,cr.lp,st.hk&hp)
If you space them out well enough you can cr.hp their dive kicks, keep them from charging in by chucking plasma at different level.

Thanks, what would you say is the best range for Sak to stay at vs their Kobokushi/Palm special when I don’t have meter? I know it can be whiffed punished kinda, just have issues finding the right range.

Stay just outta cr. mk range if you play with your air tatsu’s in training and get the timing down you can almost always hit them when their finishing up. Same when you are across screen time it and if you want to get in do Ex Otoshi (This is more ballzie but it works)…

in regards to Fei, though he has better pokes, this is where it is extremely crucial to study when and how frequent they throw out normals and if there are any patterns…

if they CW, cr hp that. If possible, I’d ultra it, either ultra works.

Against Balrog, what’s the game plan like when he gets closer than sweep range? It seems to me that in general his close range game tears Sakura up. What are the key normals when he Dash Punches and is left at mid-range?

I’ve been playing it by zoning with fireball + SRK, and buffer poking with c.MK xx HP SRK at a range beyond his jump-in. When he’s knocked down it’s pretty free, but honestly I feel at a loss the whole rest of the match.

Can’t Sakura just punish his dash punches with st.LP xx combo?

That depends on how he spaces his dashpunch, imo the best option is to do focus dash on twitch reaction to the dash punch.
That forces boxer to start using his armor breaking dash punch, which you can instead punish on block with c.mk x hp sho x fadc etc.

Preface: I am not good at SF

That said, I’m not sure I’ve ever gotten beaten this bad in a fighting game, lol:

I have absolutely no idea how I was supposed to move in on him, since I can’t FA those charged fireballs and the AA ones kept tagging me as well. I don’t see many people using Gouken and I’d never fought him before so I was totally lost, any suggestions?

Charging a fireball takes quite a while, and the animation is incredibly obvious. As soon as you see him do it you can probably just walk up cr.MK xx shouo, or straight up EX shouo if you’re in range. If you’re not in range just walk up as much as you can to close the gap and then block the fireball.

Gouken’s projectiles aren’t like regular projectiles. You have to react accordingly to the fireball he throws. ie: jump over regular ones, and walk forward or duck under the high ones. Don’t just jump everytime you see plasma on the screen.

I will say you press way too many buttons. Random full screen shouo? Random tatsu? Were you expecting to hit him with those or something? Please play a little more patient. You can go crazy once you get in.

Simply staying at Sakura’s max st.HK range will help you dominate this matchup. I suggest practicing getting at this range (maneuvering through fireballs) and staying at this range (mastering spacing).

Pretty sure the fullscreen DP was just a botched hado lol, but yeah guilty on the random tatsus. Thanks for the tips!

Yes but it’s not that fast so try to anti air so you don’t give the advantage to adon. I also trained myself to anti air the jaguar kicks normal and instant air. (you can hear the difference adon will shout something else on the air version). the hardest ones to anti air are hk jaguar kick and instant air ex jaguar kick (last one because adon can delay this one)

I found that agains yun neutral jump roundhouse is good to stuff dive kicks and normal dash punshes. don’t try to do this agains ex versions of this. it will go underneeth you and yun will unleash his bs on you :stuck_out_tongue:

I been fighting alot of rush away rose’s what do you guys do against her?

i hate that character so much just for that and they like to spam that stupid drill thing so annoying blah >:(

Can you guys give me a lil advice on where I went wrong against this vega? Thanks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlgUzY4017I

lol, i’ve fought that exact same vega twice now… can’t offer any advice, you did FAR better than I did against him.

end of the 4th round, he did that off the wall throw 3 times in a row… he did the exact same thing to me, how do I defend against that move? i don’t even know how to do any of vegas moves, so I can’t even set it up in the training room to practice against it =\ it looks like the normal one where he just hits you, so I try to c.hp it but I’m sure that just gets me thrown. It’s so hard to break the habit of c.hp anytime vega goes near a wall, I’m afraid I’ll always fall victim to that throw.

He joined my room while I was just training. He beat me like 5 times. I won once… maybe thats why he stayed. Here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RU3GRe7RI04

I can only wonder how well that Claw player would do without his jump spam. Perhaps you would have better success playing offline? Letting your opponent jump for free all day is never a good thing.
