Sakura Setups and Safe Jumps

Now for all of streetcleaner’s unblockable setups that were listed, he said they are after “otoshi x 2”. This terminology is thrown around a lot but I don’t know whether that means you hit twice and then stop inputting motions, or hit twice with otoshi and then whiff a third otoshi.

So far I’ve had success with setups using otoshi x 2 without whiffing a third hit, but if I’m going to try to test everything that streetcleaner has posted and I’m doing thhe wrong motion that would suck (and it would mean I’ve been timing things very loosely on top of being incorrect).

Can someone clarify on this? Do you whiff the third hit of otoshi or only do 2 the hits?

And yes, video footage would be very helpful if someone would be so generous

Against T.Hawk in the corner.

Ex tatsu, otoshi 2-hits, fwd jump, dash, j.rh (fake crossup) or j.mk (cross up)

Also I’ve found it to be useful if you OS with hp shouken after j.rh just in case he decides to wake up with dp or condor.

Are these all unblockables?

Great post btw.

They say after them what they are.
For example,
Abel - jump hp, cr.mp, j.hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup).
Using j.hp here will require them to block normally as if it weren’t a crossup and j.mk would require a crossup block from them.
However, **Ibuki - **jump, cr.mp, j.hp (unblockable).
This is an unblockable. People have a couple options vs unblockables, but if you know these options, you should still be able to punish them.

I’m still having a lot of trouble getting these down, are they all assuming a whiffed third hit? It seems like I’m a few frames late and just put myself in the corner without hitting them, and if I try to whiff the third hit in the corner it usually hits them.

I believe some are whiff and some are not. I forget who posted it, but there was a chart that literally said whether or not to whiff the third.

If someone knows where that is I’d appreciate a link, I’m ready to start working these into my game

I think all of them seem to require no whiffing of 3rd otoshi… I can get them all to work except the stupid El Fuerte unblockable -_-

Hey all,

For a while I’ve been hoping someone might take the initiative to post some videos of these unblockables. 50/50 setups are pretty easy, but the unblockables tend to require very strict timings, for everything ranging from how long you wait before otoshi, what height you hit each otoshi at, to when you press your jumping attack. I think having a visual guide would be helpful for a lot of people (myself included.)

Since nobody seems to be uploading any videos I figured I would start doing some. I make no promises as to how many I will upload, or to with what frequency I will upload. Basically, whenever I teach myself a new one I’ll try to take a video of it and share it with you all. Lucky for you guys I don’t know very many, so I plan on teaching myself quite a bit in time to come.

Here’s something to start with. I’ll probably just edit this post as I upload.
Sorry for the quality… recorded on my phone.

Chun Li:

Ex tatsu, otoshi x2 (whiff 3rd), neutral jump, whiff c. mp, j. mk

Visual/timing cues that help me: Wait slightly after ex tatsu to let chun fall a bit, then do your otoshi x2 such that it hits sort of the middle of her body and without much gap between the two hits. Do the j. mk quite late, so it looks like it should clearly be a crossup, and so it hits very deep. Compared to say, the unblockable on Akuma, I find this not to be too difficult to do reliably once you get the hang of it.

Normal throw, whiff cr. lp, j. mk

Notes: The two above are safe jumps against ex sbk. The nice part is that if they do sbk, chun actually stays in the corner, unlike when chun gets hit by the unblockables and you end up in the corner. I would assume that this means you have to block away from the corner in order to not get hit by the sbk, but I didn’t test it.

Mp shouken, j. mk

The above works with or without starting from an air tatsu juggle. The timing is the same as far as I can tell. This is also a safe jump against ex sbk, but you will end up in the corner if chun does it, so block accordingly. Also, Chun must quick rise for this to work. Personally, I wouldn’t use it much because of that one reason. Keep in mind that she can also “late” quick rise which will make your mk whiff (when testing the setup I realized how much I late quick rise without even realizing it.)

Right, I have tried out all the unblockables and have got them all to work except El fuerte… can’t get that one after 20 minutes of trying -_-

** Ibuki** - jump, cr.mp, j.hp (unblockable) Don’t whiff 3rd Otoshi.

Dudley: frwd jump, dash, j,hp (unblockable) Whiff 3rd Otoshi and hit the Otoshi’s quite early, easiest unblockable by far…

Akuma: jump, cr.mp, j.hp (unblockable) Don’t whiff 3rd Otoshi. Quite a useless one since he can teleport away or press crMK to lower hit box but still ok to do if you got your option selects down I guess.

Gen: jump, cr.mp, j.hp (unblockable) Don’t whiff 3rd Otoshi. Exactly same as the Akuma set up.

Sakura: jump, cr.mp, j.mk (unblockable) Don’t whiff 3rd Otoshi.

Chun Li - jump, cr.mp, j.mk (unblockable) Whiff 3rd Otoshi.

El Fuerte one is painful…
I posted when and when not to whiff Otoshi for the unblockable setups because I think those are the set ups that are very important to learn.
I’m now gonna do the rest of the set ups and post which ones needs whiffing and not whiffing.
I’ll try the El Fuerte one last again and maybe later or tomorrow I’ll also post how late or early I did the Otoshi because I noticed that actually heavily effects whether the set up works or not…

dear god thank you, I’ve needed videos for months on this, I have the capabilities of making video easily but I can’t execute these in the first place lol

Word. Thing is, i’m pretty sure a lot of them you can either whiff or not whiff the 3rd hit, so long as you adjust the rest of the setup appropriately. For instance, when I learned the akuma one, I learned it with whiffing the 3rd hit.

Actually the same recording for akuma worked on gen also.

I imagine the strength of otoshi probably makes a difference as well.

Right I’ve made EVERY SINGLE set up except one on that list work and wrote down exactly how I did it.
The only one I cannot do and is annoying the hell out of me is the El Fuerte unblockable -____-
Other than that I have made a word document of the easiest setups for each character and how I did them.
If anyone would be so kind to make a video of each one and upload them that would be great (I have nothing to record with), if not you can still use my information and you should be fine!
Credits to Streetcleaner, this is just an upgraded version of his post and Sakura forums for the information I have not made any of this myself, I’ve just wrote how I’ve hit the Otoshi to get the setups to work.
If you have any questions regarding any of it or find something that doesn’t work let me know!
I’ve got each of these to work at least 3 times each (except Elf unblockable…) at least and its my way of learning these setups.
I’d advise you copy and paste the following stuff into a word document incase of future deletion or whatever… here it is!

EDIT: 23/10/2012
Just changed around the order of these so that its easier to read (y)
Also added Adon fake crossup setup found by Wilken!
Also removed El Fuerte unblockable because I haven’t landed it once and haven’t seen any proof of it landing.

EDIT: 06/11/2012
Added in El Fuerte and Dee Jay unblockables found by shano!

Unblockables against: Akuma, Chun Li, Dee Jay, Dudley, El Fuerte, Gen, Ibuki, Sakura.

No setups against: Blanka, E.Honda, Vega/Claw.

Characters that use the exact same setups.

Dan, Evil Ryu, Ken, M.Bison/Dictator, Oni, Ryu, Yun and** Yang **all use the same setup.
Fei Long and **Gouken **also use the same setup but with different timings.

**Abel, Balrog/Boxer, Hakan, Seth and Zangief **all use the same setup.

**Akuma **and Gen both use the same setup.

SETUPS

Abel - backjumpHP, dash, j.hp (fake crossup)/j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and do not whiff 3rd Otoshi.
Be careful as Abel can roll away, if he tries to you can grab him out of it.

**Adon **– crHP, backdash, j.mk (fake crossup), j.hp (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away and whiff 3rd Otoshi.

Akuma: jump, cr.mp, j.hp (unblockable)
Do Otoshi straight away and do not whiff 3rd hit.
notes: if Akuma does nothing, he won’t be hit
Be ready to OS a teleport ¬_¬

Balrog/Boxer - backjumpHP, dash, j.hp (fake crossup)/j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and do not whiff 3rd Otoshi.

Cammy - Backdash, lk tatsu, j.hp (fake crossup lands in front if done correctly!) / j.mk (a little delayed for crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away and **do not **whiff 3rd Otoshi. Cammy
notes: midscreen after ex tatsu, do dash, sweep, lk, j.hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Be careful if Cammy has Ultra 2.

Chun Li - jump, cr.mp, j.mk (unblockable)
Do Otoshi straight away and whiff the 3rd Otoshi.
notes: there is no reason for not doing this unblockable. If you just wanna do a fake crossup, there’s the chance it won’t be a safe jump agaist ex.spinning birdkick.

Cody - frwd jump, cr.mp, j.hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi as early as possible and whiff 3rd hit.

C. Viper - Backdash, lk tatsu, j.hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and do not whiff 3rd Otoshi.

Dan: backjump, dash, j. hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and whiff 3rd Otoshi.

Dee Jay - cr.HP, backdash, j. hp (unblockable) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and whiff 3rd Otoshi.

Dhalsim - Backdash, lk tatsu, j.hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi quite early as fast as you can and whiff 3rd Otoshi.

Dudley: frwd jump, dash, j,hp (unblockable)
Do Otoshi straight away and whiff the 3rd Otoshi. Easiest unblockable hands down…
notes: if you mess up the setup, often the hp will be a fake crossup
Be careful of Dudley’s cross counter move, he will reversal your move and take himself out of the corner.

El Fuerte – backjump, dash, j. hp (unblockable), j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi delayed, and do second hit SLIGHTLY delayed and whiff 3rd hit a bit delayed also. Very difficult setup…

Evil Ryu - backjump, dash, j. hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and whiff 3rd Otoshi.
Be ready to OS incase E Ryu teleports.

Fei Long - backjump, dash, j. hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and whiff 3rd Otoshi.
Watch out if Fei Long has Ultra 2.

Gen : jump, cr.mp, j.hp (unblockable)
Do Otoshi straight away and do not whif 3rd hit.
notes: if Gen does nothing, he won’t be hit.

Gouken - backjump, dash, j. hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and whiff 3rd Otoshi.
If he’s parry happy then don’t bother or do the setup but don’t do the j.hp/j.mk. Just land and do whatever you want to punish. That should stop him parrying then you can do the setups.

Guile - backjump, dash, jump hk (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
notes: super ambiguous, and the only character that requires j.hk
Do Otoshi a teensy bit delayed and whiff the 3rd hit.

Guy - jump, cr.mp, j.hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
notes: the hp/mk hits REALLY late.
Do Otoshi straight away and whiff 3rd hit. The j.HP/MK is late but not THATTT late.
Also watch out if Guy uses EX Run, it has hyper armour and can absorb up to 3 hits.

Hakan - backjumpHP, dash, j.hp (fake crossup)/j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and do not whiff 3rd Otoshi.
Be careful if Hakan has Ultra 2.

Ibuki - jump, cr.mp, j.hp (unblockable)
Do Otoshi a teensy bit delayed and **do not **whiff Otoshi.
notes: if you mess up the setup, the hp will be a fake crossup

Juri - backjump, dash, j. hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup) (a little delayed if necessary)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and do not whiff 3rd Otoshi.
Be careful of Juri’s counter move as she can absorb your hit then fly away. If she does it try empty jumping and punishing, that should/might stop her from doing it too often.

Ken - backjump, dash, j. hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and whiff 3rd Otoshi.

Makoto backjump, dash, j. hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (bit faster than normal) and do not whiff the 3rd Otoshi.
notes: depending on how high you hit with the otoshi, you should delay the mk a little bit just to be sure to crossup.

M.Bison/Dictator - backjump, dash, j. hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and whiff 3rd Otoshi.
notes: I almost never use that. I usually go for: otoshi x3, you end up in the corner, lk tatsu to crossup dicta again -> throw/cr.lk/frwd. mk/hp/istant overhead/whatever this way he LOSES his charge and can’t psycho crusher out. I copied Uryo of course.

Oni - backjump, dash, j. hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and whiff 3rd Otoshi.

Rose - jump, cr.mp, j.hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi a LITTLE bit delayed and whiff 3rd Otoshi.

Rufus - jump, dash, j.hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (but no rush) and do not whiff 3rd hit.

Ryu - backjump, dash, j. hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and whiff 3rd Otoshi.

Sagat - backjumpHP, dash, j.hp (fake crossup)/j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and do not whiff 3rd Otoshi.
After meterless otoshi combo (cr.hp xx otoshix2) do dash, dash, cl.st.mk, j.hp/j.mk.

Sakura: jump, cr.mp, j.mk (unblockable)
notes: otoshi must hit her head
Do Otoshi then delay your Otoshi so that it sort of looks like you’re BARELY hitting Sakura. Do not whiff 3rd Otoshi. Very easy unblockable once you get the visuals and timing of when to hit the Otoshi.

Seth: backjumpHP, dash, j.hp (fake crossup)/j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and do not whiff 3rd Otoshi.

T Hawk - backdash, lk tatsu, j.hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup) (do it late or it lands in front)
Do Otoshi straight away and whiff 3rd Otoshi. End up in the front if done correctly.

Yun/Yang : backjump, dash, j. hp (fake crossup) / j.mk (crossup) (a little delayed if necessary)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and whiff 3rd Otoshi.

Zangief - backjumpHP, dash, j.hp (fake crossup)/j.mk (crossup)
Do Otoshi straight away (no rush though) and do not whiff 3rd Otoshi.

I’ll also post ratings next to each setups to show how easy or strict the setup is, but as of now I am pooped and quite frankly may kill myself if I hear another Shunpukyaku @_@

I know that feel bro

Nice one jav! i’ve always wondered does it matter which kick you use for otoshi in the corner? which button did you use for these setups?

also I’m almost 100% certain you can do these even without the 3rd whiff because its so easy to do, or maybe my timing is a bit different from yours/

edit lol I just realized deebs basically said something similar a few posts above

Thanks Alex!
I believe its the timing only that you’ll need to alter for any setups (that’s why I wrote when I did them to get them to work)
I don’t think the kick used to activate Otoshi matters, and the punch definitely doesn’t but when you punch does…
I used HK and LP to do all these setups but like I said that shouldn’t matter.
BUT on most of these set ups I did the Otoshi like just a LITTLEEEE bit after as early as I could and I did 1-2 right next to each other but not THAT fast together but like pretty much just like… within a second of each other and the final one on the way down whenever if it needed to be whiffed!
Really wish I had something to record with, I’d have uploaded them all

Javed if I get time this weekend and can replicate them using what you wrote I’ll make videos of them

That’s awesome thanks!
I have practiced these this morning, I did most of them on the first go, and that’s using my notes off of it because my memory is shite so the only one I actually know by heart is the backjump dash one and the backjumpHP dash one because that covers like half the characters… I’d say they’re the most important 50/50 setups to learn, of course unblockables take priority though.
I think I may just print off a sheet with these on it rather than learn them by heart…

Hey guys
I’m the one that posted those setups in the first place, and I’m very glad you think they’re useful.
I apology for not completing it with the Oroshi timing, that’s something I wrote down on my notebook after discovering those setups but I always forgot to come here to update my post. My bad ^^ I clearly remember though that I ALWAYS wiff the 3rd hot of the otoshi. Maybe it just changes the timing a little, so everyone should test this stuff and use the setups he is more comfortable with
Since everybody finds the el fuerte unblockable hard, I’m gonna hit the lab right now to see what I can do, since I think I never fought a Fuerte in these months and I really can’t remember what I did.
