Sakura Setups and Safe Jumps

I was trying to find something similar vs blanka and I found that after 3 otoshi’s put you in the corner, you can jump over and still block reversal ex upball

I don’t suppose one of you could put together a video of some of these? I’m having a hard time getting it right, people are able to just step forward out of the corner and throw me as I land.

Don’t bother just trying for the first time in a match without testing in training mode. They require specific timing on the second otoshi and when to press the jump attack.

Also, things like pressing c.mp after a jump is possible to mess up. I “tell my hands” to press the c.mp before Sakura actually lands if that makes any sense

Its safe because of the range against most srks. I think ken HP srk is the only one that catches it but don’t quote me on that

yes it’s just a matter of testing stuff in the lab. Against some characters the jumping attack must be very precise (like Sagat or Cody), but I posted only setups that I could do at least two times in a row, so there’s nothing THAT difficult. By the way, you can OS a cl.hp. It is super fast and if you mess up the setup there is a high chance you are gonna hit the opponent that’s trying to grab you. Or you can OS a jump. Well it’s better if you just practice and don’t mess it up XD

Yeah I find most unblockable setups really difficult. It sucks that they’re pretty hard to practice since you can’t really tell if you did it right without recording it.

Dunno if this has already been posted but you can do your combo of choice to upkicks > air.hk tatsu (2 hits) xx immediately jump forward upon landing. Lk gives you a fake crossup, mk for actual crossup. This is most effective if they tech the knockdown.

what’s the timing for the ex tatsu 2 hits in the corner? If I do the hits immediately at the bottom of the character asap, the setups whiff, around the middle they hit… sometimes.

i have a bunch i started writing down.

After watching the match against bison I tested that shouken FADC > lk tatsu crossup he did. It can’t be crouch blocked.

Is that Bison specific or might it work on some other characters too?

Not sure. I tried it on ryu, cause he’s the character that I first discovered unblockable tatsus on, and it works, but it’s way less practical because you have to walk forward for what seems like forever after the fadc. Buttons would be pressed. Same deal with Ken I would assume.

I think it might work the easiest on Akuma and Bison, because they are the characters you can just walk in and crouching cross-up tatsu with. It works on other characters like Ryu, Ken, Vega(claw), etc, but its harder to get.

Only tested this on Ryu so far but I’m sure it will work on a good chunk of the cast.

Safe jump after MP.Shory if they don’t quick rise:
whiff jab, neutral jump whatever.

Tested on viper, cammy and chun. Probably works on the twins too.

Jumping jab > seems to be good for cross up / unblockable tatsus, although the timing and spacing seem kind of iffy. Some guy hit me with it a few times in a mirror match.

Looks like against Sakura if you do a hp shoryu and they quick rise, walk forward a bit jump jab > tatsu will cross up. You can also get it off sweeps and throws and probably just about any knockdown.

Against bison I could get it to be unblockable after a sweep with the right spacing, but after a throw I could only get it to cross up or be unblockable if I took a step forward after the j. Lp, which reduces the practicality. You still land on the other side usually if you do it immediately. Didn’t try it after a shoryu.

I imagine it could be useful against the usual crossup tatsuable characters (shotos, bison, Cody, etc). Good for late techers and crouch blockers. Not for early techers and reversalers.

Another way to get into mp shouken unblockable set ups like against chun and ibuki is to do air tatsu into them when they are in the corner then juggle that with mp shouken, hold up forward into j.mk for the unblockable. Useful for fireball predictions!

Lol! I was surprised I didn’t know that either. lp and hp shouken dont work though.

Honestly, there’s a lot of good information, but without a visual cue for people to look at, a lot of people are going to have trouble pulling these off.

I think someone should make a video showing these off, I think that’d get the point across much easier imo.
