Sakura Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Depends on distance but anything that isn’t a light attack (or causes knock down) can combo into LK Shunpuu, linking afterwards is pretty dependant on distance and has to be 4 frames of startup or less.

Common options I guess would be:
s.HP xx LK Shunpuu > c.HP xx HP Shou or HK/EX Shunpuu - should work on all characters when close enough, highest damage but possibly hardest way to combo
c.HP xx LK Shunpuu > s.LK xx HP Shou or HK/EX Shunpuu - should work on all characters, probably the easiest way to combo, s.LK has the most range but c.LK can be used instead (does less damage varying on character)
c.MK xx LK Shunpuu > s.LK xx HP Shou or HK/EX Shunpuu - c.MK forces the low block but doesn’t make crouching characters stand so Shou is needed for hitting crouching opponents over Shunpuu
c.MP xx LK Shunpuu > s.LK xx HP Shou or HK/EX Shunpuu - same as above but c.MP used as a counter poke since it seems to have fairly good priorities

Late post ^^;:

I exclusively play on the 360 controller. Really, the controller works better with Sakura than most characters. Her BnBs and pokes are all set to easy buttons, just gotta practice their timing, as you would with a stick. Just gotta bare a couple things in mind that I’ve run into:

-The analog stick is terrible for dashing. Average dashing around, focus cancels, etc. work fine, just the FADCs tend to be a problem. Jamming two triggers while mashing the stick forward can be tricky, but it comes with practice. Often times, I’ll only FADC back, rather than into a long combo string online (shoukenXXs.HP) due to the the inconsistency.

-You’re gonna lose a strong poke when you put anything on LT. I have MP there, and don’t get a chance to use it as much as I’d like. The only time I get a chance to is when I know I can beat a long range poke with it (ie: Dhalsim/Chun), and not planning on comboing after it. Gotta heavily rely on MK.

-Speaking of MK, her bnb cr.mk->shouken is a pain. Probably a pain on the stick too, but since I refuse to be lazy and use the shortcut for it, I hinder my game. Only reliable way to get it is to do the back/forward dance, and hitting db+mk, if it connects, qcf+P (the forward motion will still be stored from the “dance”). You’ll wear your controller down real quick if you do the DB+MK,DF,DB,DF short cut too = .

I have my layout like this:
X=LP
Y=HP
A=LK
B=HK
LT=MP
RT=MK
LB=PPP
RB=KKK

May buy a stick for SSFIV, so I can gain practice with new scrubs, but I'm honestly not looking forward to it. I play competitively well(low G1 level) with the controller, and would hate to set my game back. Then again, it looks like many of the new character's chain combos focus on the middle punches and kicks... which ain't gonna happen with a controller.

how do you guys input super cancels? (whole combo, direction and button press)

i.e. cr.mk xx hp shou xx super

:df:+:mk: :d::df:+:mp: :qcb::qcb:+:k:

There’s no special trick to it.

well could someone of u guys try something out i used it yesterday and it worked.

:df:+:mk::l::d::df:+:mp::qcb::k:

it seemed for me as the better input method :wink:

Seems a bit too complex :lol:

Like Twist said there’s no special trick to it, just need to be fast enough but don’t need to be super quick since Shou gives you plenty of time. Only thing to mention is there’s no pause between the Punch of the Shou and starting the rotations for the Super motion.

complex ? it is really easy imho, and much faster.
just wanted someone to confirm it for me, wasn’t sure if that was the correct input string.

instead of going back to ‘neutral’ you go to back, the rest is the same, and saves you one circle input.

There’s no reason your method wouldn’t work. You’re hitting all the required inputs in there. I prefer to do the double qcb motion separately because I know that I’ll finish at the right time to cancel on the third hit, but if you like your way better then go for it. :tup:

holding :df::mk::df::hp::qcb: :qcb::hk:

I got a question guys, i have trouble with people who FOCUS when im knocked down , what do i do?

back dash is a good option, if its not a lv 3 then u could fucus then backdash if their timing is not the greatest wake up with grab. honestly ive never had many people do this to me but when they do i tend to just back dash. oh and if its not level 3 just guard

Focus tends to panic me :sweat:

As Cod said, back dash is a good way out of it. If they’re nubbies that try to hit you with Lv3 Focus all the time just EX Shou through it, if you don’t have EX then an LP Shou might be fast enough and since it’s a reversal it’ll instantly break Focus. If they’re the kind of people who charge then back dash out or do Lv2 FA then just stay blocking.

There are players that are great at using focus against your wakeup, like Luffy who plays Rose from France.
Wakeup backdash has two flaws, focus can be delayed to catch the backdash with a lot of characters, or they might be baiting you to backdash and do dash throw/c.lk > combo.
Wakeup throw only works if the focus isn’t timed just right, if it’s timed right you’ll get hit before the throw has a chance to come out.
Wakeup EX SRK can of course also be baited with a backdash into ultra/block by most characters.

So all in all, there’s no one way to beat someone using focus against you on wakeup, you have to out-think them and choose you’re response.

There are the odd few that use Focus great on your wake-up, I remember seeing a video of a Japanese Guile baiting Rufus to do Jesus Kicks and Air Throwing the shit out of him.

However the majority of people who try FA (released or cancelled) on your wake-up aren’t in the same kind of league and are usually pretty predictable once they try it once or twice. I say “majority of people” and really talking about the kind of people Blizer would come across since I don’t think he attends the US or Japanese pro circuit often (being in Portugal and all) :stuck_out_tongue:

so one more month until… my birthday lol, oh and ssf4

It’s better to be aware of the fact that focus can be used as a formidable weapon on okizeme rather than assuming that it’s easily counterable.
I don’t like teaching people about anti-scrub tactics since I believe strongly in correcting your mistakes before somebody else does.
If he starts getting a certain pattern when people use focus against him on wakeup, good players will decimate him for it and he won’t have a clue about what to do.
I know that Fuerte-players have a penchant for being good at using the focus as okizeme since his focus has huge range, and he’s bound to run into a few of those.
Since he asked for advice it would seem he intends to improve his game, so it’s better to give advice that’ll last him rather than advice that’ll only work against scrubs.

Also, we do have a tournament scene here in europe as well with many strong players, so don’t assume he won’t ever face someone who’s less than a scrub.
The mentality of looking down on players based on where they come from will only come back and bite you.

I live in Europe too (UK) :stuck_out_tongue: I’m assuming he’s talking about online competition so I’m going from my experiences but yeah you’re right.

Either way I think it’s obvious to what kind of FA vs wake-up player you’re up against after a couple times they do it. The scrub = FA3 all the time, the norm = FA back dash cancel 9/10 times, the very rare “pro” = probably rape you :stuck_out_tongue: (not “you” personally, “you” as in the general “you”, the average player :P)

that said, has sak’s ex srk been fixed? sorry if this has already been answered.

Yes I am , " The scrub = FA3 all the time ". How do i escape? i tried shuoken he still hits me , backdash can’t. I don’t know i gotta beat this weakness of mine =X

There’s no reason EX Shou wouldn’t win, I suppose it’s possible for FA3 to beat regular Shou considering it’s not all that fast (6 frames methinks) but it’s pretty hard to time that. I think it’s unlikely they’re able to time FA3 to hit meaty or the frame you’re up, might just be able to jump out the way of it. What characters are they using? Guessing, Ryu, Sagat, Ken, Akuma, maybe Blanka, don’t think there’s any reason why back dash wouldn’t work against those characters.

Just mash the shit out of EX Shou, make sure it’s a reversal so it’ll break Focus on the first hit and it’ll be invincible until that hit so no reason it’d ever lose :confused:
