If it’s level 3 then try to time your backdash against it, if you’re mashing it on wakeup chances are they’re not doing it meaty so you get caught because you backdashed.
A focus attack only has 2 active frames, backdash has 8 frames of invulnerability, so timing the backdash isn’t that strict.
Yeah Ex Shou works, and yes Ryu. Not all , but i met one guy who actually timed well. Ill try that and post later.
i am looking to perfect ambigous crossups with j.hp, got any vids for that with Setups?
would appreciate it.
Back in the early days we thought jump was invul to level 3 focus. Anyone care to test this?
No that’s certainly not the case. I’ve been too late trying to jump out of a lvl3 focus plenty of times - it can hit you while you’re airbourne and sends you twirling off. It does limit their followup options though so you just eat a dp or something instead of a full combo. Some characters can’t really follow with anything.
What are some sakura-specific option selects? The only ones I use are the shunpu option select against certain teleporters, the short/sweep OS against backdashers and the OS throw.
so far thats all i know of. something i will tend to do sometimes is if someone does a jump in attack and goes straight to grab i will block the jump in input and ex shou and then hold down back. if he goes to grab i ex shou, if he continues his attack then u will just guard
Her c.MK xx Shou counter poke is/can be an option select. Whiff gets nothing, c.MK hits you get Shou. Probably her most useful OS.
i didn’t even think her cr.fw~shou was an OS…i always thought it was a 2-in-1 or a cancel, but i guess that’s where the definition gets fuzzy.
thanks for the replies, guys.
i use cr mp to ex shou as well sometimes. cr mp works great as a counter poke
my option select for cross-overs: j.lk+lp, c.lk+lp, c.lp, c.hp xx ex.tatsu.
So if my j.lk whiffs, i’ll usually tech the grab
if u go for a meaty walk up lk to bnb you should be doing this: cr lk+ cr lp, cr lp+cr hk, cr hp, ex tatsu. the cr lk+ cr lp is obviously for the grab, the cr lp+cr hk is for some one who back dashes. the first attack will miss and then the sweep will come out. if he doesnt backdash then u continue on your merry way.
Oh sneaky, I’ll have to try and get that down.
I’ll give that a go in training but I think it’s a bit much for my poor brain to process in an actual game
I think optionselecting an mp sho instead of sweep is better with sakura because her sweep doesn’t have incredibly long range, so there’s a good chance of the backdash getting out of range within it’s first 8f of invincibility.
If you’re right next to someone after an otoshi then c.lk, c.lp~sho, c.lp~sho is a good way to deal with someone who either blocks or backdashes.
Mp sho has the same startup as her c.hk, so just go for it, the only difficult part is getting the timing down for option selecting specials into chains and remembering to do it when playing.
Buffering her shoryuken?
I was just watching the specialists 3 videos with Sabre’s Sakura and the commentator mentioned buffering her Shoryuken after her crouching forward. Is it more than just (using shortcuts obviously)…
:df: :mk: :d: :df: … wait to see if the mk connected and if it does, press :hp: ?
Problem is my reaction time is crap and I can’t see to hit confirm the crouching forward to save my life. Is there an option select or something else I’m missing?
Yeah if like most people and you don’t have the reaction times of Superman you use the option select version, DF+MK D DF+HP, aiming just in front of their feet. If the c.MK whiffs then the Shououken (Sakura Fist not Rising Dragon Fist :P) doesn’t come out because you’re still in recovery of the c.MK when you hit HP, if they walk forward the c.MK catches them allowing it to cancel into a Shou since you’ve already buffered the motion for it
Thanks for the quick reply… but if the MK is blocked, I’m screwed right? So I shouldn’t be trying that without meter?
yeah its more like fishing for a counter poke.
when blocked shou is going to come out.

Yeah, that’s why you aim it in front of their feet. If they walk forward they can’t be holding back, ergo can’t block. Just need to know the range so that the only possible out comes are c.MK missing or them walking into c.MK and getting the full combo.
