In your matches, Sugami, I don’t know that I saw you go for a single crossup. While Scarlet Terror can beat the Knee on Vega’s wakeup, he has no defense whatsoever against crossups save backflipping (which then in turn makes him very vulnerable afterwards). Some Knees are good, certainly, but mixing in crossups will dissuade Vega from doing the Scarlet Terror and keep him on the defensive.
Against that particular Vega, you should be mindful of his EX stocks, because he tends to spend them pretty quickly on EX Barcelona or Sky High Claw. EX Barcelona in particular is a good damage move that you simply can’t block on reaction, so you need to be looking out for it ahead of time.
One last bit of advice, I noticed several times when you started a Focus Attack but aborted or released it early, sometimes taking a hit in the process or missing a good chance to get a crumple. That can be a good anti-EX Barcelona defense mechanism, but don’t be afraid to hold the attack a bit longer to fish for his pokes. Just be careful on the jump-ins, as he proved a few times with the empty jump throws.
c.MK xx Gadouken is force of habit really Problem is getting close enough for it since his c.MP generally beats it in both range and speed
Tried crossing up a couple of times but always backfired as he’d flip attack out of it, I’d miss and do the follow through c.MP which would then get poked by him since he has already recovered When I have him in the corner I’ll keep the knee pressure on as a back flip will get him out for free on a cross-up attempt Dunno think back flipping gets him far enough away since I’d have probably wasted time whiffing a s.MP What I do with Sakura is fake the cross-up and do a c.LK xx EX Shunpuu, if he flips away the EX Shunpuu comes out on negative edge and catches him but don’t think EX Dankuu would reach him
EX Barcelona think I blocked once and wasted it since I thought I was still playing Sakura EX Sky High Claw and that pop kick along with c.MP and the slide basically make up his “poking” arsenal, first two I really have to be mindful of
He’s pretty good at throwing my Focus Attacks on landing and if not his pokes always seem fast enough to stop it so I’ve been backing away from it when he jumps. I think EX Barcelona breaks Focus, had it happen to me at the start of matches
afaik, the flip kick of claw does not have any invincibility frames for non-EX, and even EX prolly did not have hit invincibility or throw invincibility. But then Dan has 2 active frames on most ground normals. To my experience, EX celona doesn’t break focus, well, as long as it isn’t reversal.
Against claw his special attacks is the least of my worries, I’m scared of his normals… or his range
Yeah if you have time to set up the Knee there’s no way it’ll lose but if Vega does a quick get up into reversal Scarlet Terror you won’t be able to get the Knee off fast enough and will be hit out of the start of it
So now I’ve learned to expect a reversal Scarlet Terror if I see a quick recovery, that or he’ll probably use an EX Barcelona Attack, no quick recovery and it’s Knee time!
Cut & paste from youtube: At this point I was bored chasing his run away Akuma down all day long so I made it my mission to try for the Saikyo Crusher (Legendary Taunt cancel into Ultra). It got blocked but I didn’t care as we got to see the awesome Legendary Taunt and my opponent was nice enough to let it finish. Afterwards I throw another taunt for good measure, he responds with Ultra and you’ll actually see me cancel out of my taunt before getting grabbed (trying for counter Ultra but lag had other ideas I guess) and the rest, as they say, is history
Afterwards managed to scrape together a somewhat random win, guess the Legendary Taunt was too much
Incidentally how do you handle Akuma’s pussy-ass teleport? It was more often than not just out of reach for me so was unable to punish, even in the corner was trying to hit with Knees and Dankuu and even throws but nothing seemed to work >.<
That’s because it has invincibility on startup. He’s got a period of vulnerability just as he’s coming out of it.
You have to stand just outside throw range, then dash back twice as he teleports. You’ll be able to catch him with a grab or an immediate s.MP xx HK Danku depending on how you timed it. LK Danku stuffs or trades with Akuma’s DPs, so if you put the fear in him and manage to corner him, he’s probably going to Teleport out.
To do: Experiment to see if we can land Ultra if you dash back early enough.
To do: If I’m remembering right, it seems a deep meaty LK Danku in the corner will still hit Akuma if he blocks (With a tasty frame advantage), but mess up his teleport input if you pass over him early, causing him to teleport back into the corner for a punish combo. Can someone confirm this?
Last to do confirmed, but provided that he does his input as df, d, df with a very precise timing. doing f, d, df will cause him to do shakunetsu hadou, and him doing teleport too late will still make him get out.
I try to predict teleports ahead of time by reading my opponent’s tendencies, and stay a bit farther back when I suspect the teleport to come, allowing me to just do a single back-dash in order to catch them with a throw (and I always throw them right back at the corner they tried to escape). I believe the teleport has 10 frames of vulnerability at its end, which is a good amount, just be aware that the PPP and KKK teleports go different distances. Some Akumas immediately do a Shoryuken or Ultra once they recover from their teleport, so if you mistime your punishment, you might suffer. Alternately, if you don’t try to punish it at all, you might benefit as they throw out their whiffed move.
Another Akuma tip would’ve come in handy at the end of both of those rounds. Make sure you do jab-jab-light kick when Akuma has his Ultra charged and is a ways away from you. It’s not an official taunt, but it works better than them at that point.
well it’s about time he got a decent fireball.
also, theres a bit of recover time from a forward teleport that leaves time for a good c. hk. worked in st, prob still works now.
If I remember correctly he has to use PPP to go past you and unlike the other 3 he’ll go a long distance instead of next to them, Reverse DP + KKK gets him out of cross-ups (again if works similar to rest), damn that slippery bastard.
To do 1 answer (concerning Akuma): Don’t even need to back dash, if you spot the teleport and input Ultra just as he passes you you’ll catch him when he becomes vulnerable
I tried fake cross-up then c.LK xx HK or EX Dankuu (get Dankuu on negative edge usually) but the teleport is always too far out of reach The semi-good news is it works against Vega’s backflips, HK Dankuu will catch him with the last kick if he does the double back flip and all 3 if he only does the single.
Actually to take this one step further you can do option select j.MK cross-up into HK Dankuu, if he doesn’t back flip he’ll obviously either block the j.MK or get hit by it, at which point you’ll follow through with the rest of the combo. If he does back flip away the single will get hit by 2 kicks and the double will avoid all but you’re left right next to him. Sadly this stuff is beyond my skill level so you guys would need to check somehow if you’re able to throw or combo him after the HK Dankuu finishes.
Alternatively you could use MK Dankuu as that’ll still hit the single back flip and give you more time to deal with the double back flip.
That Guile match was pretty epic, I feel you should have won the 2nd round and got lucky on the 3rd Good job predicting the Sonic Boom with the Ultra
Because I was bored I was thinking of doing an intermediate tutorial but realised how much time talking about the Dan Knee would take up so decided it deserved its own video. This was pretty hard to make and edit since there’s quite a bit of explanation in it, speaking of which if there’s anything in there that’s wrong or something I missed out please tell me so I can fix it.
Oh yeah, I was kinda lazy and couldn’t be bothered with fading in and out so just hard cuts, sorry
Youtube have already kicked in and banned it in certain countries, England not being one of them but have no idea if it applies to America and Canada D:
